It was difficult to drag 3 suitcases up the stairs. Perfect location if you don’t mind the traffic noise! Would be nice to provide bedroom slippers during the cold seasons.
Thank you!

Great independent hotel in the East Village. Comfortable. Needed to keep white noise on and ear plugs for street noise. Email to check in didn’t come at check in time so I needed to reach out. Room could use more hanging hooks. Kitchenette was great to have. Bed was very comfortable.

New York is expensive... this place was just good enough for the price. We stayed for two days. The area is nice, close to transit (as most places in NYC). Building was quiet enough and the kitchenette is nice although we didn't use it.

Kind staff helping me over the phone and friendly housekeeping. Fantastic location!

My stay was fine other than the fact that I paid for early check in and my email never arrived, giving me the entrance code. When I did contact them by the phone number provided for bag drop-off, they resent the e-mail and all was well, but by then it was the time of the normal check-in. We also had a lot of trouble getting in our room. It took many, many tries with the code to get the door to open. The staff said that it had been a problem with that lock. That was a bit unnerving especially late in the evening.

Great value. Excellent location and offers every convenience for a great stay.

We asked for a second blanket but never got an answer….Location is perfect to explore NYC

Room wasn’t clean (someone’s used ear plugs on the ground)
When I went to check in, person on phone said my booking was for a different date.
Room is not dark in morning.

Spent 3 nights at EVH.We were on 2nd floor and surprisingly the Sat night noise didn't bother us. The bed is comfortable, the shower is good and the kitchen is great for morning coffee or late night snack. House keeping is good. The location is amazing plenty of different restaurants, bars ... Definitely coming back to EVH when we come back to NY.

Very close to the avenue which isn’t ideal from a sound standpoint. The room also unfortunately had a broken window which allowed in additional, normal street noise.

We were a bit skeptical when viewing from the outside however were very pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room. We stayed in a queen with kitchenette and it was very clean.
We chose this location to be within a block from our son’s apartment and close to a dog park.
Staff even helped us before our arrival in parking garage recommendations and lower floor room.

Love this place and local

Great location. If you need service like bag storage, this may not be an ideal choice. All the rooms are walk-ups, so if you have a lot of stuff or otherwise find stairs challenging, this place won’t work. The window unit acts as a great noise machine.

Amazing location close to everything. Our room was on the second floor, clean, and suitable for the one night we stayed.

I thought the area was nice. The stairs were hard to do everyday but in a great spot.

Bizarre stay at EVH, from the moment I walked in to the morning I checked out. It’s exceptionally confusing to actually enter the property- the address says 1st Avenue, but you actually have to go around the street, where its fairly nondescript entrance lies. No lobby, receptionist, or real common area. I’d venture that non-English speakers would have a lot of trouble. But they do have a bowl of jolly ranchers, so there’s that, I guess.
The room itself was passable- the bed wasn’t that comfortable, and the only design elements coming through are the original exposed brick of the building. However, this room had the tiniest bathroom I’ve ever seen in a hotel- it would be impossible to use for any more than a night or two. You’re bumping into things, you’re dropping your toiletries because of the lack of shelving, and you can’t even reach the toilet paper if you’re using the can with the door open! Really, really disheartening. To top it all off, the handle on the inside of the shower door came off the first time I used it. Genuinely bewildered by this bathroom.
Then came phone calls while I was out of my hotel room- a woman who claimed to be the manager for the hotel kept asking how I was enjoying my stay at their sister hotel, another property in Chelsea. I started panicking, and began thinking they were about to bump me! I had already slept there for a night, I informed her. She just replied with “Oh. Okay. Got it.” Was I being scammed?
I won’t be staying here again.

Great small living accommodation, central to the subway and town. Everything you need in the room with great aircon.

It’s loud at later night / before the sunlight.
Lots of noisy trucks on the street.
Remember —-Wearing a pair of ear plugs before go to bed !
Affordable price.
Location is good. Close to NYU, vibes are good.
Walkable.
After I booked a room on Expedia, I never received “self check in “ email , I called the hotel, they resent me a email and text messages, but they messed up , asked me to go to a different hotel (Chelsea inn something)
But they fixed it.
In general , it’s a good stay.

I lived around the corner in the 90s. This place was like living in the E Village - the best neighbourhood in Manhattan. 👍
10.0 / 10.0
We (husband and tween) stayed here for 5 days to explore NYC. A great neighborhood and walkable to great pockets of the city. I was worried it would be too loud, but the building is quiet. We felt safe and comfortable. It's a great deal in an expensive city.

Even though this place is more like self catering, the customer service was excellent. Great food choices nearby

Really great place! Cool part of town and the accommodations were comfy and clean. Management was a bit tricky to get a hold of, but they have a small staff so we understood. Will definitely come back!

I liked that I could always get them on the phone, I did not like that the TV did not work and would take a week to fix or I could move to a different room. By that time I was already settled in. They do need to but a bedside lamp by the bed so you can read at night, without having a flood of lights on ,

Liked the location in East Village. However the property needs some maintenance. Was very disappointed that the Tv in our room 17 did not work and was unplugged and we were not told about that at check in. Also one of the window blinds was not operational. Hotel should have made sure rooms are in good shape prior to check in. Upon calling they did recommend that we move to another room the next day but we found that inconvenient. For the high daily rate paid, expected the rooms to be of better quality. Rooms are showing neglect!

I did not like the sign in process over the internet which made me repeat a lot of the answers I had already answered with Expedia. I hated the check in with no one there at the hotel entrance. I missed having a person to greet me and answer questions I had.
The worst part was the so called family bed which was more like a World War 1 army cot or an old, old lawn chair. I paid about $50 more for the night to get the extra bed. They should have paid me $50 to sleep in it. (It might be ok for a small child but no adult should be sleeping in that thing.)

Very eclectic area and lots to see/do. Easy access to transport and the subway.

They guy that dealt with me was super rude and took his time purposely to check me in it took several hours just to get him to send the online check in codes

Thrilled to find the East Village Hotel at 147 1st Avenue in ManhattanNew York which turned out to be right next door to the theatre where we enjoyed my daughter’s play that she wrote ,directed and produced along with several super creative and talented resourceful people. EVH was located in an awesome area with great restaurants, cafes, markets, bars, shops and theatres! EVH was easily located and we found it to be clean, very hospitable and convenient and we enjoyed the convenience of a functional kitchenette with a small fridge. We asked for a cot as my other daughter joined us for 1night and it was very helpful and comfortable. Our bed was very comfortable. We had difficulty with the television and called about this and was greeted with attentive staff who quickly assessed the problem and when they found that the TV couldn’t be fixed until later they worked to move our luggage to a new room without any hassles or inconvenience to us. I would highly recommend The East Village Hotel. The East Village hotel is accessed without front desk staff but by electronic code for entry to the front room and then it has 4 floors accessed by stairs and no elevator but not really a problem unless there are mobility issues and subsequently the hotel room is accessed with the electronic code that is sent to you before arrival. We totally enjoyed this hotel and their hospitality and property and would definitely stay here again .

We enjoyed the convenient location and access to dining and food shopping. We discovered a number of unique businesses in the neighborhood, like Physical Graffitea and others. The location of our room on the corner of the intersection, and only one floor up, made it so that the noise of people talking - and yelling - continued all night. There were sirens and emergency vehicles with flashing red lights parked right outside the building on several occasions at night. The room itself was clean and comfortable, although a reading lamp and bedside table would have been helpful. Overall a good choice for being in Manhattan and in the midst of the hustle and bustle of a big city - if you don't mind the lack of peace and quiet :)

East village hotel is a gem if you are looking to stay in the area in a “budget.” Easy keyless access. Note that there is no staff on site except for daily housekeeping. Rooms were clean and having a kitchen, although we were too busy to use it was a nice touch. Be prepared to hike up stairs with luggage as there is no elevator. Luckily we were on first floor meaning only about 20 narrow steep stairs. We requested a low floor with reservations directly for an $25 fee. This is based on anvailability and should be done ans far in andvance ans possible so they can try to accommodate. Also note that if you are arriving/leaving by air, there is no onsite luggage holding area. If you wish to do that would have to transfer to sister property a fair distance west of hotel. Things to note, street is noisy especially ant night so ear plugs might help. Also our bed was super creaky due to springs and softness of mattress ans well ans the base of the bed being wood. All that being said, I would stay there again.

Very convenient location for me. I do wish the kitchen had paper towels or kitchen dishcloths as I had to use my hand towel instead. Room was clean and bed was comfy.

Excellent price for the location. Have stayed here twice and both times were satisfied with the property. Check in was seamless with the staff’s excellent communications.
6.0 / 10.0
Excellent location, clean building and room. Low rating is due to bathroom condition. Shower curtain does not reach the floor and water floods the bathroom with every shower. Required mopping up with towels after each shower. Evidence of longstanding problem in unit 18 with cabinet showing signs of being waterlogged. Easy fix but doesn’t seem like anyone is paying attention.
4.0 / 10.0
You must be kidding.
Property has nobody on site. Think about that for a minute regaring your safety. Property has no elevator and my room was on the 4th floor. Lastly, there is a sign screaming 24/7 support. Not really. TV in my room didn't work and the gentleman on the other end of the line said that since it was a conceirge-free establishment, there was no onsite manintenance to assist. You get what you pay for, folks!

A good value overall.
One issue. Upon check-in, I noticed our television wasn’t working. I immediately emailed and they replied quickly, saying that it would be fixed the following morning.
Upon returning from a day out, we had exactly one channel. It remained that way for the balance of the trip and they ignored polite requests for some nominal money back.
