I think 2 Star is very harsh, the decor in the recpetion is old but cute, but the room was stunning, very morden, clean and comfortable. Short walk to the beach and city centre. I will plan to stay again.

Everything was perfect! The room was extra clean, confortable, nice view. There is no balcony but good windows you can open. There are two terrasses , one rooftop with view of ocean. The hotel us well located near beach and old town by walking. It was quiet, I appreciated everything in that hotel. The ambiance is agreable. It is a family project. So they care.
We have complete breakfast served at the table for afordable amount. I will go back for sure. I felt good all 9 days i stayed. The pictures are the same as the hotel.

Quick one night stop over before catching flight home next day. Lovely friendly reception, but you need to let them know before arriving if you need parking. Don't assume there will be room when you arrive. We were fortunate. Room very large and clean and lovely modern bathroom.

Everything was great. The reception was accommodating in speaking English.
The only issue is the poor design shower unit. Swing doors do not seal proper thus the floor soaking always. Be careful not to hit the tap the wrong way or you get super hot blast. No coffee maker just kettle for instant coffee. Restaurants in the area don’t have hours conducive to meals.

Great location, and a cozy and medium sized hotel. 30 minutes walk to old town, but the bus stops just outside the front door, and cost 1.4€
2 minutes walk to the beach, which is also great.

This was just a two night stay following a trip to Granada that left us close to the airport.
The Hotel is 5 minutes from the beach and about a 30 minute pleasant walk to the Cathedral and town centre.
Hotel was clean and well presented. Staff were helpful and the breakfast excellent.
All-in-all a pleasant stay.

Easy to rach from the airport or the city center and the beach is a 3 minute walk away. The next bus stop is 1/2 minute away :-)

The staff at the Hotel California is extremely friendly. They provided information and help. The hotel itself is beautiful and clean. The room was comfortable, and had everything one can need. The location was perfect. It was a block from the beach, and walking distance to restaurants. It was a 5 minute taxi ride to the city center. We had a great experience and I highly recommend this hotel. It’s not in a super busy area which was great, since the busy area was a 5 minute walk away.

The hotel has no ramp, only the stairs and had to carry our luggage’s towards the reception. Breakfast is excellent. The personnel is friendly and ready to help. Would certainly go back.

This isn’t the best hotel in the world but it’s friendly, quirky and good value.
Staff are great, very decent/ big breakfast. Decor is odd but cute. Room is really stuffy without use of fan and air con.
Location ok, 15 mins out of centre. On bus route.

The hotel is very near the beach which made it really easy tog back and forth multiple times a day (to siesta when it was very hot!). It’s also near a large supermarket to get water and snacks. The public transport is very close, with a bus stop directly outside the property and the buses taking you straight to the city centre. The rooms themselves were very nice and newly renovated with excellent air conditioning. Would definitely stay here again!

This place was a great! Maybe a little far from downtown and all the action, but everything about it was super nice and staff was very helpful! And it was steps from the beach, quick 5 minute walk :)

On checking into our room, it had a string sewage smell. We opened the windows and doors and switched the fan on. After a few minutes the small was atill coming from the bathroom so I went to the reception desk to report it. The assistant gave us another room one level above the first one. We checked into this and it was fine. On leaving for dinner shortly afterwards I thanked the assistant, upon which he told us he checked our original room and it was fine, and didn’t understand why I complained. I reiterated that it smelled bad and he insisted I was wrong, with a really bad attitude.
On returning to the room around 11pm we showered in cold water as there was no hot water. The air conditioning did not work, after at least an hour on cold, and with the extra fan in, the room was still hot. After our exchange earlier I wasn’t going to complain and turn the whole thing ugly.
The following morning I reported the issues to the morning manager, and he said he was aware of the water problem, but it was now fixed, and we were on our way to the airport! He insisted the water temperature was 40deg the previous day, and that the air conditioning worked fine, I must have been using it incorrectly! Again a bad attitude.
After a week of several hotels and superb experiences, this was by far our worst experience. If I visit Malaga again we would rather sleep in the car.

Excelent stay, way above the expectations. We received a service ( room surface, amenities, patios, partial view at the see, clean room, breakfast, assistance at parking ) which makes this hotel to deserve 3 stars.

This is an absolutely brilliant room - the renovated rooms are superbly finished. The bed is very comfortable and the breakfasts were excellent.

Hotels rooms are very old, very close to the old town.
Parking is a little tricky, please contact the property for parking information. DO Not arrive and ask for parking…

One of my favourite hotels I’ve stayed at. A perfect location just off of the main centre. Very quiet and very clean. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful. The breakfast options in the morning were such a treat! I’d recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have stayed at the hotel california three times now and it's usually a good value option. The location is great and the staff are friendly. The rooms are reasonable and value for a 2 star. But the main reason I choose this hotel is for the large sun terrace. Sadly, this time, there were no sun loungers available - every single one was broken and out of use. There was no explanation given when I raised it with the management and was just told that they were waiting for the summer to get replacements. I've no idea how they can allow all the loungers to break without fixing or replacing. The marquee was also broken so overall, the impression was very disappointing and revealed a neglect of what is the hotel's main attraction. I'm not sure I would stay here again due to this significant issue. It's a shame as I liked this hotel.

Room cleaning service was not good (floor was dirty from the very first day until we left the room). Very poor room insulation (we heard our neighboring room occupant snoring the whole night for two consecutive nights). Something to be recognized is the remodeling of the rooms, very nice done.

Hotel is close to the beach and Gibralfaro.
Staff are very helpful, helped us to take the luggages to the room and to the lobby when we leave as our luggages are quite big.

We stayed at California 3 nights. Very nice property. Beautiful hall and reception, modern and big rooms. Delicious breakfast. Perfect service!!

We loved everything about the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable with an excellent shower and the breakfast was good and plentiful. Extra coffee on request!
