Parking for Monteverde cloud forest is right in front of the hotel. Hotel is deep inside with no convenience stores in walkable distance. Hotels.com had incorrect location listed which made us go in circles to find the place. We used yoga room for yoga. They have kitchen.
Road the hotel is terrible with many potholes. Driving in rain was terrible experience specifically when you are coming for the first time and have incorrect directions.

It was a very beautiful property!

Check in area & dining/common areas are great. Staff is awesome. Restaurant food & drinks were great. Room was dingy, musty, & cramped. We were in a private 4 person room. 2 huge useless chairs took up 1/4 of the room. Should replace with table/space for luggage. Could use a fresh coat of paint too. Small coffee/tea maker would be a lovely addition. It was not a space you would want to relax in. Really just shelter for $200/night. Common kitchen is disgusting & Not stocked for meal prep. I get that it’s a hostel but for the price expected more.

I did not want to leave!! The property is really cool, the bar/restaurant and jacuzzi area especially. The staff were so friendly and helpful - muchas gracias a todos por una linda bienvenida y hospedaje, y para las buenas recomendaciones! Espero volver pronto! Abrazo!

The room stayed wet the entire time. The towels stayed wet, the floor stayed wet, our beds were wet and the windows had loads of moisture on them. One shower and your room is very wet. A fan would be very helpful. Limited bathroom storage and hangars. The walls are thin and the doors are 1-2cm above the ground, which allows noise and bugs in.

Hostel Selina is a cute spot way up in the mountains with a great common area, hot tubs, a library/reading space, kitchen and yoga studio. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly return our next trip here!

Just 2 small wirlpools. During our stay the rooms where not cleaned. No clear invoice. Shower didn´t work

First I'll say, THE ROOMS DON'T HAVE HEAT! Most places in C.R. this doesn't matter, but it was 59 degrees and raining when we arrived and our room was that temp in the room all night. This may be why Expedia calls this a "hostel". The next night they loaned me a space heater.
I was excited to stay here because I've stayed at some cool eco-resorts, but it turns out this is a corporate chain. The rooms were very basic and not kept up (e.g. broken light, window didn't work right), which felt disappointing since we'd paid the same amount as other, nicer places. It also felt like we were being charged extra for everything. I ordered a salad plate with falafel and they charged $1.45 for a little 1/4 of tzatziki sauce. The menu seemed to have some good options, but the food wasn't very good. The "complimentary" drink is not a drink of your choice, but a hot cup of sugar cane water. You can reserve one time slot a day for the jacuzzi.
The pros are the location, which is right next to the shuttle parking lot for the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. (the downside of this is the road gets bad the 1/4 mile before the hotel.) There also are some nice gardens around the property and some cool decor.

The relaxing vibe, the restaurant, the drinks and the food were amazing. The spa and the yoga spot were very nice as well as the staff who helped us with any questions we had!

I had a great time at the Selina and everyone was very friendly! I didn’t know what time I’d arrive so I didn’t book any activities, but the front desk guy let me know what was still available and arranged it all for me! They have an excellent restaurant on the property which was great for me with no rental car. There were also nice places to just hang out and play pool or read a book with the sounds of nature around you. I had one of the private rooms and loved everything about it!

If you plan to go to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve this is an excellent location for your stay! Comfortable rooms and a nice central area to hang out in

Reception lady must have had a bad day. She didn’t want to help us. Told us to wait for a coworker. Then 10 minutes later finally took us to our room herself. Later that night was annoyed when we had questions about the property. Felt singled out by her because we are not young like most other guests at this property.
Restaurant staff was great!!! Neat property

Very convenient if you want to visit the cloud forest. Unfortunately it’s far from the town and restaurants so unless you’re driving your only choice is their own restaurant, which thankfully is pretty decent.
Good space for parking and nice comfortable room, it’s a shame they don’t really clean them. Hair all over the bathroom and filthy floor.

The place had a cool look and feel but you could tell that the place is old. The receptionists were nice and helped with everything. It is far from the center though, so would recommend a car to get around.

Very convenient location! 15min walking distance to the cloud forest. Staff very friendly. Restaurant is very convenient for a quick bite. They offer a wide viriety of tours. Recommend the Kinkajou night tour, Cafe
Monteverde (They have an amazing affogato!)
The roads are very bad to get to the hotel.

I do not recommend this hotel at all. Shower sucked! Water was either boiling hot or very cold. Everyone in my group spent entire shower trying to manipulate the darn water temperature. Also, that semi-blond girl at the check in desk had a serious attitude. We had a wonderful 5 days in Costa Rica until we checked into this hotel. Every Costa Rican we’ve met had been nice until her. This hotel also nickels and dimes you. We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights each non-refundable (it’s a scam. NEVER buy non-refundable! Not worth it!). We had to forfeit first night which is fine because it’s our fault our plans changed. However, all we asked was for a 1 hour courtesy late checkout. Nope. They wanted another $15. She made it sound like she had so many guests the next day. When we checked out at 7 am (couldn’t wait to leave God awful place), we saw at least 2 rooms completely empty. Moral of the story, pay more and stay somewhere else. Not worth trying ti save $$ staying here. Here’s the last thing nobody tells anyone. The road up to the hotel is horrendous. You need a 4 x 4. The only silver lining in all this are the beautiful sounds of the variety of birds in the morning to greet you in the morning. That made up for everything. Yes, this hotel is close to Monteverde Clouds but so are many others. They are not the only game in town. DO NOT RECOMMEND. SPEND $$ ELSEWHERE.

I booked 2 nights in a private room for my pregnant partner and our 1 y/o baby and turns out it was a bed in a 6 people room!!
They told us this is an issue with the page, which is showing the room incorrectly; but if the information is not being shared properly, why don't you take it down it or do something about it?
In the end, they gave us another room for the first night but we had to move out for the second one.
Very lousy experience.

Lovely place.

Easy walk to Biological Reserve and very friendly staff. Willfully negligent in providing amenities. For examples, one shared wash cloth, not hand towel at sink; no toilet paper dispenser; furniture by an inexperienced handiman; swept but very dirty floors; limited parking; etc. Also while convenient to Reserve, it was not at all convenient to town.

This Selina is very close to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, so that’s definitely and advantage. The actual property is very nice, with access to gardens and green areas. It’s pretty quiet and relaxing place. My only concern in the use of light bulbs through the open spaces around the property which may interfere with the animals’ normal habitat outside at night.

The hostel is really great, one of the best I've ever been to. The rooms are spacious (not a lot of storage room in the twin room) - clean, safe, really good vibes from the staff.
From a hotels.com perspective - the early check-in/late check-out should've been complimentary because of my gold status. The hostel staff said they had the availability but I still had to pay for it. Same thing with the complimentary upgrade (plenty of availability but I also had to pay). Not sure if it's a disconnection between hotels.com and this hostel but not the experience I was expecting.
That being said - will definitely recommend and come back!

Affordable place to have your own private room. Lovely foliage surrounding and many activities for guests. It is a 40min walk or $10US taxi ride to town. Transportation is included via shuttles if you are booking tours. It is only a 15-20min walk to the Cloud forest, no need for a guided tour, you can easily navigate throughout the entire area in a few hours. During my stay in Monteverde I had some digestive issues (accidentally had milk combined with too much papaya, literally ate papaya every single day which my body isn't used to) during my trip and the restaurant staff were extremely accommodating to my dietary needs even making me a special lemon, honey ginger tea to soothe my stomach. I appreciate how helpful and kind the staff were. Other tourists who knew how to speak spanish helped me translate at the pharmacy, the culture in Costa Rica is so welcoming and nice! Being in the cooler temps of Monteverde is a nice change to the extreme heat on the coast. Don't forget to pack waterproof gear and layers as it can get chilly in the night. Colon currency can be a benefit over American dollars. Only need 3 nights in Monteverde overall.

A fun, funky hotel close to the top of the mountain near the Monteverde Cloud Forest National Park. Spacious rooms with lots of storage space. Tons. Loved how the decor was re-purposed items.
Good shared kitchen space, nice restaurant on site with tasty eats. Common area has some atmosphere with games and even karaoke one night.
Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful in booking the few excursions we did.
Parking on site which was helpful.
About a 10 minute drive into town for shops, restaurants and groceries.

This was a great little stay. I was not familiar with the brand and was surprised at all the activities and amenities considering the type of accommodations this place offers. Very impressed with the facilities in general and the staff were friendly. My room didn’t have hand soap and I would have liked to have a couple of hand towels available, and the service at the restaurant was a bit slow, but otherwise it was a wonderful stay and si recommend!

The hotel is very clean and nice, I stayed there on my first day in Costa Rica and really liked it, so decided to return for the last night there again. Location and the area around are absolutely amazing. Some stuff members of the hotel were very helpful, while others not so much. It was a bit frustrating, but didn’t spoil an overall experience. We were fairly shocked though when we weren’t able to get beach towels for the hours and kept hearing that there was none available. A nightly price at the time I stayed there was around 500 CAD / night and for this price you certainly expect that the towels will be available wiping request. Other than that we enjoyed our stay in Santarena and I want to express a special thanks to those members of the team who helped us with multiple minor requests during our stay (unfortunately I don’t remember the name of the guy at the reception, but he is the best)!

The room was beautiful and comfortable. The hot tub was nice and the food was delicious.
Need to hire more service staff for restaurant. Always a long wait for food and service.
Staff in restaurant very nice and friendly.
Front desk staff not very welcoming, some of them were/some were not.
The vibe of the place is a bit stale, kind of soul-less. i think cause its a chain and the ambient techno playing outside makes it feel like youre in an elevator at the mall.
Smoking area could use more benches, more people smoke cigs than you think.
