Hotel attracts is cool. It's old and funky, but clean. It's right on the plaza where the freaky action happens.
Breakfast could use some work, but there's good restaurants near by.

Great stay on the downtown plaza. Great nearby shopping and food! A mile from Cal Poly Humboldt. We had noise from the restaurant under our room til 10 pm. Lots of noise from protest on the square during 10/7 during the day. No issues with parking in town - it’s free. It felt safe and friendly.
Breakfast is lackluster. The people are all awesome.
2.5
The hotel was in the general area of town. Coffee shops were open and a was all I needed.
2.5
Quaint, clean and comfortable.

If you're looking for privacy, don't bother with the Basic Suite -- it's 2 rooms, but there is no door. I love the location and the charm of this hotel and especially the walkability to everything in town. I do wish a minifridge was in the room.

Old an no a/c or heat only windows an space heater to heat an cool

Location for shops and restaurant is great.
Street noise is very loud. Rooms are ok and really just too much noise. Would not be able to stay here again. Sad because the area is cute.

Great stay

Very old and a little scary!

Property and staff are great, but square right across the street was full of very questionable and unsavory looking characters. Felt uneasy parking our car on street (no where else close to park) but host assured us they haven’t had a problem with cars being broken into. Sure enough car was fine when we came out next morning.
5.0
It had an old time appearance and very well keep

Great old hotel feel, if you like that. Be sure and read the cards next to all the old photos on all floors. Operable windows! Our only problem was thin walls let us hear street noises, conversations of night owl guests, and the noises of pre-dawn risers.
2.0
Old quaint hotel in middle of town. Had clawfoot tub and things from bygone era. Step back in time! Staff was very helpful and friendly. Only thing we were slightly concerned about was the small centralized park across street (like old fashioned town square) had some noisy people gathered hanging out and were worried about leaving car parked there. But it was ok, we were on other side of hotel and didnt hear them and all was ok with car. Nice old hotel.

Very nice!

This hotel was creepy! It reminded me of a scary movie. The homeless were everywhere! Walked by a group of people snorting something off the side walk... didn't dare investigate just kept walking a lot faster.

Classic1915 hotel in the center of Arcata facing the town square. Hotel has been kept up well. The square was lively and noisy at night, but we did not feel unsafe. Nice coffee shop across the street.
2.5
Nice spot.
2.0
It is on the plaza which apart from the crazy people is fine. The property is I imagine very representive of a hotel from 1915, without air conditioning, with victorian plumbing and a few cobwebs.

Great location for walking to everything in Arcata. Historic building with lots of character.
2.5
Excellent sushi restaurant on the first floor. Nice rooms. Historic property. Underwhelming breakfast. Sketchy hobos hanging around in the square outside. Would stay again

Second time staying here...really great and fun hotel.

I realize the hotel is a historic property. It's lovely as is.
I wish there was a mini-fridge in the room. My biggest complaint is the homeless congregating in the park across the street. It makes you uncomfortable if they are verbally abusive or aggressive.
2.5
Hotel Arcata is an eclectic "old fashioned" feel hotel complete with clawfoot tubs. It has modern conveniences though of freshly starched sheets and plenty of hot water pressure in the shower. The staff are remarkably kind.

This hotel is cool. It is also old. It exudes early 20th charm and it also has some 110 year old hotel problems, such as the windows and doors let every noise in, and the area around the hotel is surprisingly noisy for a little town. I'll get to the noise in a sec...
The continental breakfast was meager, at best. It was barely acceptable, tbh.
The room was cool. It was old, but clean, and had real solid brass fixtures and comfortable beds. It had a radiator but no air conditioning that i can recall -- which turns out, was ok, in Arcata, which doesn't get warm even in early August. (for reference: It dropped down to 51º overnight -- on August 11!)
The town, though, has this sorta semi-permanent "hippie homeless" population that just lives in the town square. Maybe this is very typical of a California hippie town, and I chatted with some of them and they were mostly nice, and mostly harmless, but it did make the evenings much louder than one might normally expect for a small town. We're talking "yelling at 2AM" type noisiness. My teenage kids were not fans of the members of the town square. I was fine with 'em, but it was definitely not something I've encountered quite like this.
Overall, this hotel is worth staying at if you're ok with the "weird". Recommended.

The property is lovely, but unfortunately many homeless individuals congregate and sleep in the park across the street with loud noise and fighting sometimes.

It’s a really mixed bag kind of situation. The hotel is very charming and the location in some aspects can’t be beat, it’s five minutes from Cal poly Humboldt campus, and steps away from lots of really *really* good food, and the campus store. On the other hand, the beds and pillows are not the most comfortable and the noise outside on the plaza can be terrible depending on the night. My first night here there was partiers drinking and singing and their dogs barking until almost 3 AM and it was extremely noisy. The windows don’t block any sound. I could hear every wet cough of every person 100 feet away outside and it was disgusting and I was both exhausted disgusted. The second night was more bearable. I don’t think I will stay here again despite its charms and convenience. I’d prefer a place with a dedicated parking lot and newer beds and less noise. That said, if you stay, the staff is lovely and helpful, and check out Wildflower Bakery for amazing vegan food, Oak Deli and Brewery for incredible lunch fair, Blue Cafe for breakfast, and the North Coast Coop for lovely smoothies and breakfast pastries (and it’s a great grocery store too).

Original and authentic historical hotel... With modern amenities but in keeping with the historic ambience. Excellent old town location with the town square across the street. Plenty of dining options, local artists, a creperie, and the old theatre very close by. The front desk lady was great! We'll definitely stay again!

The property is an older hotel with older hotel charm. It was very clean in the rooms but there were signs of wear and its age. The plaza in front is amazing but there were some homeless people at the park.

I went to a dermatologist today to assess the results of massive and many mosquito bites. A beautiful spot, but would not repeat a week of misery for an evening of beauty

We loved being able to walk to the Crabs game. Also went up to McKinleyville and enjoyed the Club swimming pool access that was provided with our stay.

Nothing special. Just convenient for work the next day.

Very old hotel. Smells very bad and dirty
Free breakfast is very limited. No agg, no sausage.
3.0
Unique and beautiful for its time. Staff was not inviting or knowledgeable of surrounding businesses or communities. Breakfast was lacking variety. Homeless people tended to be at the plaza and around the hotel.

I love an older hotel for its nostalgic feel. This one has that. Of course with the older hotels, comes a few draw backs. The room i occupied was directly over the restaurant below. It’s quite noisy until later hours.
The room itself feels clean and cozy however.
I’m not sure about downtime Arcata area for a solo female traveler. No one bothered me but there were many folks sleeping in the park across the street.

Cute hotel right downtown. But old fashion rooms and building but very lovely. And the windows in the rooms open! Rare and much appreciated in a hotel these days.
5.0
Friendly staff, comfortable room, free street parking with permit from hotel, lots of restaurants walking distance, and they even offer a gym guest pass that is 8 minutes away.

Hotel Arcata is a historic property right on Arcata's central square. Walkable to shopping and dining. A first class Japanese restaurant is on the premises. Everything was clean and well maintained.

Great location, a historic hotel. Saturday farmers market was packed.
