About this house rental
Restdown is a delightful 1870s settlers homestead which was originally built in the NSW Riverina from where it was carefully dismantled and reassembled using traditional methods on its present idyllic location. Built from cypress pine drop logs and recycled materials, the cottage has been lovingly restored to maintain the historic value of the building. You will not only be graced by Restdown’s historical presence and antique/country style furniture, but by its practicality and energy efficiency. Environmentally sustainable, the water supply is tapped from a natural spring and a combination of solar and hydro generated power supplies the cottage with electricity along with bottled gas.
Escape and immerse yourself in the warmth and character of this rustic cottage. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a relaxing break with friends or family, you have everything you need for a self-catering stay. With a slow combustion fireplace (a quantity of firewood is provided May to September), 2 Queen bedrooms, Queen loft bedroom, antique claw-foot bath, fully equipped kitchen, barbeque and firepit (collect wood and branches from the land); Restdown offers tranquility and total privacy.
Kangaroo Valley village is a short drive away and provides a variety of cafes, the local pub and a general store where you can stock up on essentials for your stay. Explore the national parks with bush walking, mountain bike riding, canoeing and horse riding right on your doorstep.

Restdown was the perfect getaway for us and our 2 dogs - who behaved perfectly. What a magical little house. Had everything we needed for a beautiful, quiet getaway. Beds were super comfy with electric blankets, tv, dvd, games, BBQ, fully equipped kitchen with yummy granola. Thank you so much for allowing us to bring our puppies. We hope to be back again - we loved it all.

Lovely little cottage in the middle of the bush. Had a lovely stay, fire roaring each day/night and lovely surrounding bush. Only downside is the toilet ran the whole time which was annoying especially at night, as was the expectation to take all rubbish with us (especially given the cost). But overall nice place to stay.

Peaceful break away
Beautiful property perfect for a break away from it all. Was great to be able to bring our dog along too. Beautiful views and wildlife all around. Enjoyed getting cosy around the outdoor fire pit and indoor fire. The cabin is very unique and well worth a visit. Thank you.

A beautiful property in a secluded and quiet location, yet within driving distance of Kangaroo Valley visit. We loved staying in the cabin. It's a stunning place with everything you need for a relaxing weekend away. Will definitely be returning and recommending to friends.

The views from the back porch are stunning and the cottage itself has everything you need.

it had been a truly beautiful place, arranged with love in all, beautiful decoration for Christmas. Only downside was the quote we received: It was not accurate as it was quoted for 2 people not the whole family + dog. Please quote your price to the amount of people coming and not explain in terms and conditions, that the quote is for a couple and every additional person pays extra as well as the dog, it just doesn't sit well. Great break from all the hassles of normal life . Love the quiet atmosphere
While I love the peace and quiet I was disappointed to find either the owners or the new neighbors are clearing the bush at the back . Due to this we saw no wild life at all. Pity properly won’t go back

If you need to truly get away
Barrengarry.. feels like home but at the same time feels like you are away from everything. A truly amazing cottage that has a unique feel of 'getting away from it all'. Highly recommended if you're after time away with good friends or just a weekend with a cottage for 2!

Idyllic getaway
From the moment we entered the driveway towards the house we were blown away. The house was the epitome of a storybook log cabin surrounded by lush surrounds. Although we had wet weather the whole weekend we couldn’t have had a better spot to enjoy a cosy and intimate location overlooking the misty mountains. Everything we needed was provided and we really made it our home away from home. We couldn’t stop taking photos and pinching ourselves at discovering this beautiful hidden gem tucked away in the idyllic Barrengarry. Would love to return again some day. Thanks to Stayz and Jan for a perfect weekend of absolute relaxation.

Perfect Getaway
It is very rare that you find a place for a getaway, view all the photos, examine all the property details and read all the great reviews... then when you get there, it still exceeds all your expectations. Fantastic place, great location, love it! Will definitely be back to visit again.

A lovely small rustic cabin nestled in beautiful surrounds. Close enough to quaint townships for dining, cafes & wineries. The 4pm check-in is annoying and for those travelling with a few adults, the lounge is very small. Fire pit is fun.

Georgeous property
We booked this property for our anniversary & more than lived up to our expectation. Great for a romantic getaway or just to enjoy the peace & quiet. The only thing I can say was there was a constant noise at night maybe from the water pipes or generator but despite that I would highly recommend it & am looking forward to coming back.

Restdown really lives up to its name.

Enjoy the peace
Gorgeous rustic cabin with lots of personality. Not too far away from the township of Kangaroo Valley, but remote enough to feel like a real getaway. Would love to try it in the colder months with the fire going. A bit hot up in the loft during the summer. Lovely sitting out on the verandah under the wisteria and enjoying the gorgeous view. Take your supplies, a bottle or two and a good book and enjoy the solitude.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Restdown. We slept better than in our own beds, beautifully and well appointed, great variety of cooking and baking ware, games, movies and the view and sounds of the birds in the rain forest! Couldn’t ask for more. Really.

Amazing location in the middle of nature. Loved waking up to a mob of local kangaroos at our doorstep each morning, beautiful cottage, we can’t wait to come back.

We were at Restdown over the Easter break and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The home was well presented with small touches throughout to make it feel homely. The kids enjoyed running around and exploring the garden and so did our dog! We roasted marshmallows by the fire every evening and rested our tired heads on the most comfortable beds. It was just what our family needed and we're so grateful for the memorable stay!

Fabulous three nights spent at the Restdown the house has everything you need and more. It was cold enough at night to make use of the fire place. Kids and dog had a great time away.

The cottage itself was lovely and oozing charm. However it really did lack furnishings that would have helped to warm up the house during the winter months, e.g floor rugs, curtains, throw rugs etc. The house was absolutely freezing!!! For a house that sleeps 6 it really should have enough couches to accommodate 6 people, you can barely fit 4 adults on the one couch that is there. Yes it had a combustion fire and a generous supply of perfectly cut wood but it simply wasn't enough to warm the place up. Whilst at the cottage there was an issue with the water and we had no water for more than several hours and hence had to have our weekend interrupted by the owner fixing the issue. This sort of thing should be monitored more closely to prevent interruptions to guests weekends. The late check-in time of 4pm really is a little mean when you've taken a day off to enjoy a long weekend. The disposal of your rubbish at the end of the weekend is also an inconvenience, in all the years of short term renting properties we have never had to take our rubbish with us! Unfortunately we won't be returning.

Restdown is a beautiful and relaxing property, great amenities and set back from any other properties so very private. Great bonfire outdoors & internal fireplace. Perfect for a long weekend away. Taking rubbish away with you is slightly inconvenient, but not a massive deal if you're just there for a few days. Also awesome property to bring your dog to, incredibly handy & well suited to those with a pet.

A beautiful old restored cottage that was tastefully appointed and comes with a very well equipped kitchen.
The view into the trees and distant valley while enjoying breakfast was lovely and the beds comfortable.
Unfortunately while paying a premium rate you are paying for the access to the building only. The fee wouldn’t appear to cover part of the cleaning on departure as you will still be cleaning up BBQs and be asked to take a 16km round trip and pay an additional $8.50 to dispose of a bag of rubbish. This leaves a blight on what would otherwise be an enjoyable weekend.

Restdown is a magical place - secluded but still close to everything you need or may want to visit. We only spent three nights but could have stayed much longer. The property is beautifully restored with great attention to detail. We loved the fire pit and sat outside each evening watching the stars and relaxing. Our dog loved it as well. Everything is set up so you can relax with books, games and DVDs. The beds were so comfortable - we all got a good night sleep.
The fourteen year old did not have wifi but spent time outside playing and reading a book!
Highly recommended and we will definitely visit again.

So lush and secluded, this cabin was just right for our stay with kids and friends. You feel like you're in a cabin in the woods (because you are!). We loved that it's off the grid and there were no downsides to that - stil had all the hot water and electricity we needed. We couldn't afford it for just our family of 4 but when splitting with friends it was perfect! Also the linens and beds were divine :)
