About this house rental

Hoemoor Bungalow, Devon self catering accommodation sleeps up to 4 people……………

and is ideal for couples or families of all ages. Our holiday cottage is all on one level and with only a short flight of steps from the level parking area, next to the holiday home. All rooms have easy accessibility from the front door and comprise:- a well fitted kitchen/dining room; charming lounge with french doors onto a patio garden and views across the rolling farmland and woodlands (a log fire makes this room especially cosy in the colder months) - there are comfy chairs & sofa, plus TV/DVD, games, etc to help you unwind after your day’s exploring. The kitchen includes a dishwasher, washing machine, cooker, microwave, etc and there is a freezer available. Whilst washing up, you may glimpse buzzards, pheasants, foxes and rabbits, or even a deer on the edge of the woods, all a short distance from the garden. Two bedrooms (one double, 1 twin beds) are provided and a child’s cot or put you up bed may be hired if required. An enclosed garden surrounds the bungalow. We also have a cycle storage shed.

We try to provide everything you could possibly need to make your stay with us a comfortable and relaxing one, including bed linen, duvets, towels, cooking utensils and cleaning items, etc.

Hoemoor bungalow is situated over looking our farm and the beautiful Otter Valley within the Blackdown Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. From the front of the bungalow you look over the farm across the fields and down the Otter Valley. At the back you look up over the fields where the cows will be grazing some of the time or if you are lucky enough you might get to watch a cow calve from your armchair.

Perfect for wildlife and bird watching- just wander through the woods at the back of the holiday cottage home, and don’t forget to bring your camera and binoculars! The peaceful, single track lanes around Hoemoor Farm self catering are adorned with wildflowers in springtime and many of our guests are content to wander around the abundant local footpaths, or cycle - you really don’t have to drive, if you prefer not to. There are kingfishers along the riverbanks and otters in the local rivers.

The area has many places of interest- Honiton is the nearest town, famous for its lace making, museum, potteries & antiques and has most amenities, interesting craft businesses, shops, bank, etc. The nearby villages of Upottery and Churchinford have local pubs, and a well stocked community shop at Churchinford. The larger towns of Exeter and Taunton are less than 30 minutes away. The spectacular Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are less than an hour’s drive, or you may choose to explore several National trust houses and gardens that are within easy reach. Family days out at Crealy Adventure Park or Cricket St Thomas are favourites for the children
.Being on the Devon/Somerset border and not too far from the Jurassic coast of Dorset, we are within easy reach of many fine, sandy beaches.Lyme Regis, Sidmouth, Exmouth, Weston super Mare or Woolacombe on the North Devon coast are worth exploring, and even a trip into Cornwall for the more adventurous.
Hoemoor Farm is a working dairy and beef farm, home to the Phillips family and our animals. The welfare of the animals, concern for their environment and the natural world around the farm is our main priority. Chemical use and antibiotic treatment is kept to an absolute minimum and cows are fed on a natural grass diet, with concentrates only fed in the parlour, during the winter months. We run about 180 head of cattle ranging from new born calves, to 13 yr old cows. Our main breed is unusual, instead of the more traditional Fresians, we predominately use red and white MRI’s (Fleckveih). Our cows are quiet and all have names, so you are welcome to meet them and even stroke them. They are housed inside during the wet months and go back out to grass as soon it is dry enough to do so. Our beef cattle go to slaughter at about 24 months old, but to keep stress to a minimum, we always take them to a local slaughterhouse by trailer when it is time to go. We do not send them off to market.

Whilst staying at our Devon self catering bungalow,

You overlook the farmland which runs down to the river Otter valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty. We are a working farm and time permitting, we are quite happy to guide you around, giving a glimpse into our farming life and explain how things are done. For early risers, you may like to watch the milking? You may even see a cow having its calf if you are lucky enough to have your stay at the right time! We have a variety of pets too, including dogs, cats, rabbits, ducks, guinea pigs, hens and other lovable, rescue animals.

On arrival, the first to greet you will probably be Holly, our Spaniel cross something, came to us at 6 months old. She has a lovely nature and will happily greet you (or your dog) and is a real character. She will also work the cows at times, but her main pastime is playing with anyone that has the time. Also dear to our heart is Flame, our faithful, 30 year old horse who will be quite often seen in our garden, or wandering around the farm before going off into his field for the morning. He is quite willing to allow children to sit on him, or gently stroke him, especially if there is a carrot in it for him!

At times, we have free range chicken or duck eggs for sale.

If you just want peace and quiet, the bungalow has its own enclosed, fenced garden so you can sit on the patio and enjoy the views across the surrounding countryside. Table and chairs and a barbecue are provided. We also have a cycle storage shed.

We loved staying in the bungalow at the farm. we were provided with cake on arrival and the accommodation was well equipped with comfy beds and a very cosy feel. The views were the best we have had on any stay. It was lovely seeing the cats, Holly the gentle and friendly dog and the farm animals every day! Would definitely recommend. 😄

My husband and I came to stay here whilst visiting family locally. The bungalow was warm, cosy and equipped with everything we could possibly have needed. The communication with the hosts was informative and helpful and they were warm, friendly and helpful during our stay. We were also surprised by a lovely cake and some fresh milk on arrival. Our stay was lovely and relaxing in a peaceful location. Unfortunately we didn't pick the weather for exploring the local area on foot, however this is a perfect reason to visit again and we would love to do so in the future. Thanks so much for a lovely stay xxx

Idyllic setting on a lovely old fashioned working dairy farm. The cattle sheds were literally on our doorstep and we could see them walking back and forth from milking to the fields - a lovely sight! Holly the dog was a joy! The farmers, Kevin and Pauline were friendly.and welcoming and very accommodating. We were welcomed into the bungalow with a lovely cake that Pauline had made with fresh milk from the cows for tea!.The bungalow was comfortable and.well equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery, and pots and pans etc. .Just a heads up though to bring your own soap, extra loo rolls, coffee etc, as we weren't aware that we needed to bring those A lovely place to spend some time in a quiet and peaceful location, but with everything within easy reach.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hoemoor bungalow. The hosts were very nice with the children, who loved all the animals. It was lovely to be greeted with home made cake and tea. It was also the perfect location to access the Seaton tramway, donkey sanctuary and Crealy adventure park.
