PortaFelice is a gorgeous and bright penthouse on a prestigious contemporary architecture building that rises in one of the most beautiful squares of Palermo old town.
The apartment enjoys a unique view of the sea and a huge terrace for the exclusive use of guests.

The building was built in the late 60s and is the result of collaboration between engineer Franco Amoroso and the prestigious firm of architects BBPR, which consists of the master of Italian Rationalism Gian Luigi Banfi Lodovico Barbiano di Belgiojoso Enrico Peressutti ed Ernesto Nathan Rogers.
This building is considered by experts one of the most important example of contemporary architecture in Palermo old town and is highly appreciated as expression of Brutalism, an architectural style which emerged during the 1950s in the United Kingdom, among the reconstruction projects of the post-war era.
In fact, the building rises from the ashes of a pre-existing Baroque palace destroyed by the bombings of the Second World War and represents a rare example of stitching between ancient city and modern architecture. In this regard, noteworthy is the ancient portal wisely preserved on the side on Via della Regia Zecca.
The apartment is fully furnished with fine furniture and equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay.
The main rooms overlook the terrace surrounding the apartment, and from this you can access the wonderful sun terrace on the roof of the building for the exclusive use of guests. Its position allows a unique breathtaking view of Porta Felice, the suggestive sea horse fountain, the seafront (foro italico) and the entire bay of the city.

Cleanest VRBO I have stayed at. Equipped with all that you need. The roof deck is a great plus. Great location and Giovanni gives a good description where everything is located when you check in.
Be sure to visit Palazzo Butera very close by. It is a living museum. Favorite restaurants nearby were Quattro Mani and Davina Di Gusto where you will dine outside

Our stay was outstanding, the apartment is tremendous, spacious, spotless, air conditioned well equipped with all requirements. Tremendous views, wrap around balcony, rooftop private terrace with 360 superb outlook. The location is first class, minutes away from water front, city center, restaurants, grocery store, and great accessibility to all that makes Palermo a wonderful visit, the train and bus station are a short walk. Giovanni and Marina, are fantastic hosts, providing exceptional service, this property experience will exceed your expectations, don't hesitate! Stop looking elsewhere! This unit is an exceptional spacious apartment. It is located right on Palermo Harbor and has a large private rooftop balcony for viewing harbor ships and activities. It is located right at the end of the exciting historical center so it is an easy walk to restaurants and visitor activities but not in the middle of the chaos! Giovanni is extremely welcoming and ensures that we had everything for a fun and safe adventure in Palermo.

The location of Giovanni’s apartment was perfect with a beautiful view of the port and of the surrounding city of Palermo especially from the rooftop area attached. The apartment was super with everything you need to enjoy your stay in the wonderful city of Palermo. Giovanni’s mother greeted us and took us up to the apartment in the elevator. She showed us everything and even welcomed us with an assortment of goodies: Food, wine and water to start our stay! So nice!! We gave the main bedroom which has a fab view of the port to our friends (we are taking turns choosing). The apartment was built using quality materials and the architect was Giovanni’s grandfather! A short walk to wonderful restaurants and cafes and the Port. The only downsides were a leaking shower in the main. Our ensuite was fine but watch the direction of the shower spray. Some road noise and construction noise but it did not take away our pleasure staying there. Hopefully we will return one day.

This apartment exceeded our expectations in every way. It was extremely spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. The roof terrace is enormous and provides a great view of the sea and port. The wi-fi, heating and hot water all worked well. The hosts were considerate and attentive. The location is in a historic area and there are many restaurants nearby. The neighbourhood felt safe and we had no concerns about going out in the evening. Highly recommended.

This apt is huge! The outside wrap around terrace leads you to a large rooftop terrace all your own! Giovanni is wonderful and provided us with a tour of the apt and upon entering we found wine, beer and snacks. The location is perfect! Wish we had booked it for much longer!

This is the perfect place to stay in Palermo. The view from the terrace is unparalleled, the apartment is spacious, and well located to everything. The kitchen was one of the best stocked I've ever experienced in a short-term rental. Our host supplied complementary coffee, tea, crackers, wine, and generous amounts of bottled water. Our host was very communicative and responsive, arranged airport transfers for us, and was most gracious. If you are planning a visit to Palermo, the Porto Felice apartment and host cannot be beat.

Outstanding and quite large property, right on the Porta Felice with amazing outdoor space and views.
The apartment is well furnished with a very high level of equipment (from the number of pillow and bedding choices to coffee machine, panini press and a huge shade parasol on the terrace. Nice high quality bits and bobs to welcome us as well (wine, beer, water, snacks etc). Everything in the apartment was of a good quality.
Plus Giovanni arranged a great and well priced airport transfer for us as well.

The house was vey nice it is full of character, you are surrounded by some lovely furniture and art. Make a.change from bland modern villas. The roof terrace is as the pictures. You are in Palermo so it was noisy but that is what earplugs are for. Host was very responsive and the building is very secure, the host and most of his family live in different apartments.

Very large flat in quiet, outstanding location in Palermo. Right on the waterfront behind Porta Felice, only a few minutes walk to the city centre. The roof terrace and surrounding balcony are huge and great for relaxing. Communication with Giovanni and his mother was outstanding, extremely friendly and accommodating. The flat was super clean, very spacious and fully air conditioned. Even water and little things were prepared for us in the fridge. It couldn't have been better, we will be very happy to come back!

We enjoyed exploring the city & took trips out to Cefalu (gorgeous), Monreale Cathedral & Mondello beach although the later we did find challenging to find bus stop then actually get on it!
Overall though a great break & adored the Gelato.

Location, location, location!!! Best location in Palermo!! Walking distance to everything!!!! The private roof top patio was amazing!!!! Most evenings were spent up there with a bottle of wine. Giovanni was amazing!!! When I left I just walked out the door. He would not let me help with removing our trash, clean kitchen, nothing! Best trip to Italy!! We could not have asked for a more beautiful apartment in the heart of Palermo. We enjoyed every minute staying here. The apartment was extremely roomy, with many rooms, including three large bedrooms, a great kitchen, an excellent living room, and some amazing views of the sea! Not only that, but there is a balcony which leads to an unbelievably large private rooftop terrace. We had a new year's eve barbecue on the terrace and it was an experience that we will never forget. The apartment is easy walking distance from the main tourist areas of Palermo and many restaurants. It is such a convenient location! If you wish to rent a car, then it is possible to obtain a parking spot and the correct permit. The property manager, Giovanni, was extremely helpful and responsive. He answered all of our questions quickly and he made absolutely sure that we had everything we needed. He also had many suggestions for what to do in Palermo. We couldn't have asked for a better host. If you're in Palermo with a family, this apartment will make you very happy.

Wonderful terrace with view of harbour - we loved watching the cruise liners arrive and depart: very spacious, well-equipped apartment: host Giovanni and his mother Marina responded immediately to problems and could not have been more helpful.
The apartment is in the Kalsa, the old Arab quarter and a great location. Lots of restaurants, bars, a Sunday Market, and museums like Palazzo Mirto, Palazzo Butera and Palazzo Abatellis are all within walking distance.
If we return to Palermo we would not want to stay anywhere else!

Only place to stay in Palermo
We have used VRBO and its predecessor a lot. Giovanni is the best host we have had, bar none. From answering questions promptly, to helping us get transportation from the airport, to making accommodations for our bags as we were checking out, he always was exceedingly helpful. The pictures of the unit do not do it justice. The property is large, tastefully decorated and comfortable. The patio you see in the picture is huge and private to this unit. The location is a short walk away from a market, the pier and many excellent restaurants. If you are coming to Palermo, look no further - book this property.

Fantastico!
My bride (of 37yrs!) and I were almost overwhelmed by the kindness, support and grace of our hosts and their team. From the arranged airport pick-up, the drive to town (our second visit to Palermo) and arrival at the unit, we were ready for an extended sojourn into Sicilian life. Our comfort, safety and ease of living were their top priorities.
As we practice a 'tread lightly' ethos, we were near food stores, a genial neighborhood, cultural sites and friendly environs. The unit is very large, is zoned for either quiet/privacy areas with plenty of doors to and has kitchen/laundry facilities. (Side note- we are shopping for a clothes drying rack! Our dryer is going on hiatus until fall/winter.) You might want to have ear plugs handy, as the areas nearby large buildings tend to amplify street-level activity.
Now 2 days away from the end of our month long stay, we miss most, sitting on the balcony or terrace watching the cruise ships, fishing boats and ferries glide by; marveling at the Italian voice-actors on dubbed American TV shows; the smells/sounds of the Porta Felice, the shops on Vittorio Emanuelle, fresh brioch, elegant gelatos; good, cheap wine; a warm 'bon giorno' from Pino as we leave for a day out; precarious foot paths; NatGeo quality photo ops; vibrant and loud conversations; the four-finger Sicilian hand gesture and shoulder shrugs.
Our stay was a revelation to us: that we could have so many creature comforts that our souls were able to relax, breathe and take in what Palermo offered. This, was the trip of a lifetime. Thanks to Marina, Giovanni and Pino. We highly recommend our friends to you for your consideration.

History, Location and a beautiful terrace
This quirky apartment is full of character and history. The hosts are delightful and the terrace is an amazing place to spend some downtime. Location is perfect for sightseeing and evenings out but is quiet enough for sleeping. The apartment is well equipped, clean and well maintained with everything you need for a stay in Palermo.

Great Stay in Palermo
We were two senior couples from UK and Canada, staying in Palermo for the first time. The apartment is very spacious, has a wrap-around balcony and a huge terrace on top with a great view of the harbour. There is a large lounge with good seating and a large TV with an Apple TV box to which you can stream video from an Apple phone or tablet. There are two good sized bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a third small bedroom. The kitchen is sufficiently equipped for four people and we ate breakfast at the kitchen table. There is a separate dining room where we had dinner when we ate in and we often had lunch on the upper terrace.
The only inconvenience was that the water was never very hot - often only lukewarm - and it took several minutes to get any warm water to the showers.
Giovanni (who lives in the building but doesn't intrude) was a perfect host and arranged our transfers from the airport and to the railway station and offered other assistance as required.
All in all, this was a great place to stay and is in a perfect central location within a short walk of restaurants, street markets, a supermarket (Famila) and the major points of interest. Recommended!

The host was just the best attention to every detail. The apartment is very clean and well stocked with a mini kitchen like the USA. It also has a little washing machine so you can pack lite. The beds were super comfy and had nice linens. The view from the upper deck is spectacular looking at the Mediterranean Sea it is very comfortable with other side furniture. The flat is very spacious and offers everything that makes a stay in Palermo pleasant. The welcome was very friendly, as well as the pre-organization and the abundant food available surprised us positively. The roof terrace with its wonderful view of the harbour entrance is worth a visit at any hour. One is in good hands on the two highest floors of the house above the lively Palermitan surroundings. We enjoyed the week in Palermo and in the flat very much and will gladly come again.

I can’t think of a better situation than this penthouse apartment. The porches and decks are amazing. I am an IT Executive and we sincerely could have thrown an amazing corporate event on the top porch! 360 degrees. Perfect Location
Giovanni arranged a car to meet us at the airport. Gaetano our driver was amazing and we used him several time during our trip. Marina greeted us at the apartment and was very through and was very accommodating when we called. The apartment was exactly as the pictures show. Amazing view and location. Couldn’t ask for anything more. I would definitely come back and book this place again.

Review of apartment
We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Palermo staying in this property. As stated by other reviews the location is perfectly situated not only for access into the centre but also the views from the roof top terrace. It was clean and has everything you need. The owner (Giovanni) met us on arrival and provided us with a welcome pack of wine, water, milk, jam, bread, etc which was very welcome. He also assisted in booking taxi's for us on a number of occasions and helped to book sunbeds for the beach. Giovanni is extremely helpful and five stars is in my opinion fully justified. Thank you.

Lovely place, great location
Two couples shared this fifth-floor flat on the eastern edge of Palermo's old city. A major road runs from the Felice Portal (in the picture) to Nuova Portal to the west. We were able to walk to most of the sites we wanted to see. Garage parking was provided for our rental car, which increased our feeling of security, and the doorman (the concierge) was a lovely guy. Oh, and there are elevators to the fifth floor. Importantly, the wifi was sufficient and free. The view from the rooftop deck was also terrific. Overall, a terrific time was had by all.

Loved The Apartment And The Location
We were very happy with our choice. The apartment is beautiful but the best part is the rooftop deck. We spent mornings and evenings up there watching all the boat traffic coming in and out of the harbor. The location is perfect with an ATM right below the apartment and lots of restaurants very close by. The free shuttle for old town stops right in the driveway below. Nice place to walk along the waterfront right in front. Hosts were very helpful with transportation and questions.

Everything about this apartment was perfect!
We spent three nights in this fabulous apartment. The location is fantastic. We could easily walk to anything we wanted as we were actually in the "old town". So much to see and so many incredible restaurants! In addition, the marina is right across the street. Our hosts were lovely - very helpful. Arranged our transportation to and from the airport as well as a reservation for dinner our first night at a great local restaurant. The views from the apartment are fabulous - overlooking the old port gates and the sea beyond. The wrap around balcony and full roof deck are a real plus. The apartment is very spacious and beautiful. We can't thank Giovanni and his lovely parents enough for making our stay so memorable. I don't believe anyone could find a more perfect place to stay in Palermo.
