Welcoming place for short break

Comfortable, well-appointed room which was quiet despite being adjacent to the main road into the town. The owners and their staff know their business very well, and work hard to present a very high standard (e.g., great breakfasts!). The building is a converted church, and retains some characterful features from its previous use. Location is a short walk to the bars and restaurants in the town.

I cannot think of anything that I would change.

The hosts Helen and Kevin were very friendly and welcoming and Helen had great advice on the local area. The Auld Kirk is absolutely spotless and beautiful, it really has such a nice feel. Our room was beautifully decorated and comfortable it had everything we needed and the extra personal touches were a lovely surprise. Breakfast is fantastic and definitely one of the best I have had you taste the quality of the food. It has its own bar with a beautiful comfortable lounge area. The staff are lovely and work hard to make it feel so special, thanks.

Full of character and very welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional. Thank you Helen and Kevin for a lovely stay. Delighted with our room especially the stained glass window.

The Auld Kirk is just phenomenal! Must stay there if you’re in Ballater!

We loved everything! The building is beautiful and the host and hostess just truly wonderful people with great knowledge of the area.

Our only regret was we couldn’t stay longer!

Great B&B, Great host, Great location.

Helen is a wonderful host and coordinates everything at The Auld Kirk. The breakfast is amongst the best we have had particularly with freshly baked scones, cakes and pancakes at our table every morning. The breakfast is cooked freshly to order and is served up lovely and hot to your table by the very efficient Lisa. Some nice touches to the service were a couple of glasses of local whiskey in our room when we arrived and as it was my birthday; a small bottle of prosecco left in our room on the day. Great tips from Helen about the surrounding area including restaurants and local wildlife. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Auld Kirk

Very difficult to fault much only to say that a little more wardrobe space would have been nice given our 4 night stay but fine if your staying for a couple of nights

Perfect

From the moment Helen greeted us we felt right at home. The property is stunning, inside and out, and the room we had was great. Tastefully decorated and everything you needed was there, even a welcome tot of local whisky. The bed was super comfy too. As for breakfast, it promised much and delivered more…very special indeed. On top of this, some great recommendations for eating and sightseeing in the town. We would definitely stop here again.

Wonderful

Wonderful, charming inn and delightful innkeepers. And what a bangin breakfast! Try the plum jam, they make it themselves. We were thoroughly happy.

Everything. The location is great, don't let no carpark put you off staying, plenty of space right outside in the street and it's safe. Helen told us to go and the stag's/ deer that come down off the hills at night. Brilliant.

Outstanding accommodation

The location was perfect for our visit to Balmoral and only a 5min walk into the centre. Helen and Kevin were excellent hosts, very knowledgeable about the area and nothing was too much trouble. Lots of personal touches such as a complementary wee dram of Lochnagar Whisky. Property is quirky and spotlessly clean. We enjoyed a full Scottish Breakfast with homemade muffins, huge selection of tasty food. Which set us all up for the day!

Kevin and Helen are superb hosts. A very warm welcome and lots of local knowledge.

Comfortable and Cosy with the perfect hint of luxury.

On arrival at the Auld Kirk Helen and Kevin greeted us where we sat and had a chat with Helen about the area and our trip to Scotland. Both Helen and Kevin were lovely and such wonderful hosts who gave us recommendations on where’s best to eat in the area, any sight seeing activities and ideas on how to spend our time with them. The bedroom was stunning and had all the amenities that you would need for a comfortable stay. Overall an exceptional and cosy place to stay and all members of staff are so welcoming! Couldn’t recommend it enough and thank Helen and Kevin enough for our stay.

An unusual but perfect place to stay in Ballater. Well run, well organised and excellent breakfast.

This is such an unusual B&B but works brilliantly. Lovely rooms, nice touches like the whisky welcome in the room and outstanding breakfast.

Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, close to the village centre, comfy bed, nothing not to like to be fair.

Street parking but this didn't pose a problem as there was plenty of parking on the side road
