when booking our room, the picture of the balcony did not match what we actually got. The bathroom was tiny. & why did we have to pay $ 27.00 a night for parking ?

Be careful when booking this hotel. Part of the hotel is renovated, but the other part is a run down motel badly in need of renovations/updates. Our "traditional suite" was accessible by a dark creepy hallway, had broken blinds, old and dingy carpets/furniture/tile, beyond outdated appliances etc. Even the pictures online of the "traditional" rooms do not show how old and dingy these rooms truly are. The rooms/suites on this side of the hotel should not be available to book, especially at over $400/night, until they are also renovated and updated. We requested a room change and the staff was helpful and able to move us to the renovated side of the hotel. However, we had to cram our family of 5 into a small king room for a night. We ended up buying air mattresses to make it work as that was still a better option than the outdated and dingy suite. You can't beat the location and the staff was friendly but the hotel needs to stop booking the motel 6 style rooms.

The website does not display the actual hotel photo. The hotel is run down our bed was very uncomfortable the hallways and stairs were dirty not what we expected for over $400 a night

The room was dark and moldy and it looked nothing like the photos. I would be very careful to book a room in the new wing, which I think is much nicer and featured in the lead photos.

This hotel is very much a bait and switch. They show off their brand new rooms but 98% of the rooms are old, not well taken care of and feel like a road side motel.

Good location, enjoyed walking in the area and seeing all of the seals. Hotel is very old, and worn. Staff we encountered were all very pleasant and accommodating.

Easy access to the beach, parking, library & check-in areas. Since the property is built into the Cliff, I wasn't able to access the pool and recreation areas due to the stairs. I was readily accommodated with my mobility needs an could hear the seals and sea lions when I opened up the patio. When closed, not a sound was heard. Perfect for easy access to the beach and shopping.

Advertised rooms are the $700 per night, got this room thinking it was going to look beautiful and it was awful, furniture bit up and old, elevator broken, bad smell outside and inside. Won’t stay here again.

Hotel very misleading, you think you are getting a room in the updated section but instead they send you up the hill to the outdated 1980’s “timeshare”. Old, musty, smelly. Carpet felt wet….it was like a Motel 6 but paying 4 star prices. If you can’t stay in the upgraded section, don’t stay here.

The picture of the room we selected for reservation was not even close to the room we stayed in which is false advertisement. They put us in the run down, pink side which was quite frankly awful. The furniture was beat up and in bad condition. Everything was awful other than the location. Will NEVER stay there again.

The room I reserved looked way different then the pictures that showed online Dow that type of room. Our room looked historical , there was ants in the kitchenette area. The AC unit in the wall only cooled one room and the other separate room had no air conditioner or ceiling fan. Also the room next to us , Looked like a janitor or cleaning supply room, it kept making louds noises through out the night and slamming the door very loud and kept waking us up. Our stay was horrible due to the condition of the rooms/ other issue was I almost slipped inside the tub before I even grabbed any soap. Slippery tub.

This place never stated or posted that they didn't have ac in the room...and at the time my fiance was there to enjoy her time with her girls for a small bachelorette thing, customer service worst...for the price we paid you would think they would offer another room or more fans or something instead they sorry and because of how hot it was she had no choice but to leave

Furniture is dated and the carpet appears to be in disarray at some of the suites. Nonetheless, the surrounding area is excellent, and the gentleman at the reception desk was kind and helpful.

Great views of the ocean but we were placed in the older wing of the property. This side was quite run down and a little noisy between the floors. The newer wing would be much nicer to stay in as the rooms looked much more updated. Also there was no guest access to the rooftop terrace/bar as it was for private functions. That was a little disappointing.

We stayed in this hotel last year. We got the upgraded side and it was beautiful and wonderful. We booked the same room this year however they try to put us on the downgraded side. We looked at the room. It smelled horrible. It was dirty so we went downstairs to complain. They charged us another $60 plus another $27 fee for the parking to upgrade when we already paid almost $400 for an upgraded room very disappointed this time around we won’t be coming back Elevator doesn’t work We had to walk up flights anytime we wanted to leave the room

It’s a great location with newly renovated building connected with the original building. The new ones are super nice specially with the ocean view balcony. Elevator had issues. And the rooms are not soundproof you can’t hear everything from the hall.

On my first night there seemed to have been a concert going on because there was loud music until about 2am. I also left the hotel with bites all over my body. The hotel said they did a thorough search for bed bugs but did not find evidence of them. I definitely left La Jolla Cove Suites with bites from bed bugs.

Only stayed one night so we just got the basic non renovated room, very small but we didn’t plan on hanging out in the room. Location of hotel was great and everything was walkable. If we were to stay more than one night it would definitely be worth the money to do the room upgrade. Pool and hot tub were nice. Location was amazing, right across from the cove with the seals. Would stay here again.

My son has sensory issues pictures on website are absolutely deceiving and it is nothing like pictures. The manager agreed to refund me at no penalty for my son’s autism disorders and then I contacted Expedia and they stated manager will not. I will escalate the matter this was absolutely Inconsiderate as they are the ones who lied on the way hotel looks!

The ocean view was nice. They put us in the older section it was like 70s decor the chairs was all stained. It looked like it was apartment. we got the 2 bedroom with ocean view the living room had no air conditioner it was hot The bedrooms had a standing air conditioner the large bedroom with the king size bed air conditioner did work that well it was blowing hot from the back of the cooler and cold air from the front so it was never cold. we had them come in 2 times to fix it they just taped the back. And still don’t work it was hot!! Other than that we had an amazing time we don’t spend too much time in the room or the hotel. I wouldn’t stay there again.

There seems to always be construction going on, right in front of the building or next door. The seals, well nothing can be done about that. But if you’re a light sleeper, expect to be woken up before the sun by the seals. We had a connecting room on the first floor, and we heard everything our loud noisy neighbors had going on. It was horrible sleep! More like no sleep. Mind you, we had to be up by 3am for an early flight. Other than that, the renovated rooms are nice. Might not stay here again.

This is an excellent place to stay in La Jolla because it's reasonably priced, the property is newly renovated, comfortable, clean, and the location just steps away from the Cove Beach and the village. Perfect. The name of the desk agent who checked us in at registration, Treasure, was perfectly true. There were people waiting, she was alone, a guest had absconded without checking out, a bunch of non-guests were trying to park for a wedding reception at the property, and Treasure dealt with everything quickly & efficiently, was super-courteous to everyone, got it all done! Wow!

Ended up not staying here. Room looked nothing like pictures on the website or as advertised. Carpets were deplorably dirty, furnishings were beyond outdated and tattered, portable AC units were rusty and moldy, and the room smelled terrible. Walls had peeling paint and areas where they had been repaired poorly. Most appalling beside the mold, was the sliding patio door did not close nor lock. There was a gap between the two glass sections and you could NOT lock the door! Would never ever recommend anyone staying here. It is a safety and health hazard. It needs to be shut down until management can get ahold of the conditions of the rooms.
