The view from the south wing is spectacular. It is extremely convenient for attending symphony concerts and even operas. The pricing in general is very affordable.

The hotel was nice. The beds were very comfortable! The staff was friendly!
3.9
Great service. The bellman was helpful and friendly
3.9
Hotel HVAC was either on or off. No temperature control as it's an old hotel. Our room was so cold we had to shut the units off.
3.9
Hotel or at least my room, needs a desperate upgrade. Door that leads to other side of rooms needs to be marked. Totally lost.
3.9
This is an older hotel but very clean and quiet. The only complaint i have is the inability to control temperature. I was a little dissappointed that the room furnishings did not match the uniqueness of thevroom pictures to small but overall it was excellant and i would stay againStaff were polite and helpful. Website needs updated as it stated vallet parking

Always stay at this hotel for races in the city. Was disappointed what when our room didn’t have heat that was properly working the resolution was to give us a heater and blankets. We paid $300
per night, and that was a little ridiculous. The manager did give us a new room and appreciated the customer service.
3.9
Room was extremely outdated, small and smelled. Not a $300 a night room. We were very disappointed and would have changed hotels had we been able to receive a refund.
3.9
The room we were was hot and the AC couldn’t be turned on. A fan was brought to the room. There was a l it of running and screaming in the hallway for a couple of hours. The TV reception was staticky. Honestly, the room was a bit spooky.
3.9
We were there for a short overnight stay during a flight layover. This is an older building with only central AC, so we could not adjust the AC. Our room was warm. The hotel provided a fan. Front desk staff was welcoming, efficient, and accommodating. We had a room with a nice view of Lake Michigan and Grant Park with the beautiful fountain. The beds were comfortable.
3.9
Everything was amazing as location, staff. But it wasn’t proper air condition and was too hot at a day time .
3.9
Good stay, near to our event. NO HOT WATER WAS ANNOYING.
3.9
Great location. Air conditioning not super cold.
3.9
It was a good stay.
3.9
This hotel needs some serious renovating. The rooms and bathrooms reflect a lot of neglect.
3.9
Very small room, difficult to maneuver between bed and dresser. Room was clean and bed was comfortable, but the bathroom sink had no hot water despite maintenance coming up twice to address it. Hotel was in process of switching over from A/C to heat, so entire hotel did not have any heat, but we were provided a space heater fairly quickly.
3.9
This was our second stay at the Congress because we were so satisfied with the previous one. We weren't at all disappointed this time, either.
Customer service was great, and when we did have one small issue -- our room was a little too warm -- the issue was quickly and politely resolved. (It turned out the system had already been switched from a/c to heat, which is very understandable, given the climate, we just had a few particularly warm days. Hotel staff obviously can't control the weather, and that's not something that can easily be changed, nor should it be in that situation, especially since the weather turned cool again toward the end of our stay. But, to make sure we were as comfortable as possible, they brought us a fan that worked perfectly for our needs. We were fine with that.)
The place was spotless. Not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere.
I've seen some reviewers complain about the beds being too hard, but we both thought the mattress in our room was incredibly comfortable. Firm, yes, but I wouldn't call it hard, just supportive. Honestly, I slept better than I have in months.
And obviously, the location is pretty much perfect. Especially for the price. VERY reasonable for any hotel in the city, not to mention right in the Loop.
It was just a really great stay, all in all. A hotel isn't exactly something to get particularly excited about, but we were more than satisfied & happy we chose Congress Plaza. We'll definitely stay here again next time we visit the area.

I often stay at this hotel when I visit Chicago, but this time the checkout experience was terrible. I wanted to split the payment between two cards, which is not an unusual request. However, the employee didn’t ask whether I wanted to use the card on file for the deposit or a different one. When I asked to split the payment, just five seconds after the checkout process began, the employee blamed me for not mentioning it earlier, even though I did.
Moreover, he processed the payment incorrectly, charging me double the amount. If I hadn’t caught the error and asked for it to be corrected, I would have been charged twice. He didn’t even offer an apology for the mistake and instead called another manager. The second manager helped to correct the error, but the entire process took about 30 minutes.
I had planned to take the train to the airport but had to take a taxi instead to avoid missing my flight, and I almost missed it anyway. I travel frequently for work and stay at many hotels, but this was by far one of the worst experiences I’ve had.
3.9
Elegant place for a stay, but there is no heat control. The hotel gave me extra blankets, but that only helped when I was sleeping. For some reason there were no washcloths either. I’d visit this hotel in summer but not the rest of the year.
3.9
My only complaint is when I arrived back to my room on my last night, around 5pm, my room had not been cleaned.
3.9
The view was horrible. The ice machine was broken on the floor I was on It was a strong smell of paint. The stuff at the front desk was not friendly. That hotel needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. We were so spooked that we only stayed one night, checked out and went to another hotel
3.9
Seemed to have limited temperature control. We had to ask for a portable heater. That worked for us. Toilet base was wobbly, needed a new seal. We notified management when we left. But staff was very responsive, Rafael’s restaurant was an easy option after a long day, we felt like we got a good price for a great location near the Art Institute.
3.9
The hotel was fine. A bit aged. The hallways carpets and our room carpets were not clean. Some type of pasta sauce was still on the rug when we checked in. The floor needed cleaned in general. The shower did not drain well.
The bed and pillows were very comfortable.
3.9
For our family, this was a really bad choice. The hotel is in very por shape, no heat in our room, cold days were bad. Poor hygiene with strange odor in our hallway. Would rather pay more and stay in a better hotel.
I almost reserved another hotel despite not receiving a refund from the hotel since I couldn't cancel it amymore and pay double to find a better place.
3.9
Great location but small and not very modern room or amenities. Hot water in the shower never quite got hot enough and the room was really cold because the hotel had not yet transitioned the furnace for heat. They did provide extra blankets however. Not sure I would use this hotel again but would stay in this area for sure
3.9
Very clean, historic property. Super tall ceilings make the rooms very large. Halls appear a little more beat up with luggage carts but that is quite minor in my opinion.
Appeared we got an upgrade as our room was incredibly spacious. Highly appreciated. We basically had an apartment!
We used the luggage storage service and couldnt compliment the crew enough on that process. We walked in the door and right away without prompt were helping us get the bags tagged and locked up.
3.9
I really enjoyed our stay. It is a beautiful hotel. I plan on staying there every time that we are in Chicago!
3.9
No heat in room. Obtained an electric heater and extra blanket on day 2. Water pressure is not great. Cheap powder coffee creamer rather than actual liquid cream/milk. Individual bottles of facial cream, conditioner, etc.would be nice.
3.9
The first room was on the back with a nice view but we could not sleep because of the noise of the trains; the check-in desk accepted to change the room for the two remaining nights and we had a very good room without view but quiet
3.9
Overall an okay hotel. Its in a good location and they had a secure place for bag storage the day we checked in and checked out. The rooms first spelt like smoke, but then we got switched The lobby makes it seem like its a 5 star hotel, but the room felt more like a 3 star. But overall for the price it is good.
3.9
Good hotel with a great location but just weird layout. Rooms are big and clean but beds are not that comfortable.
3.9
Amazing historic building and a very comfortable stay.
3.9
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. John and Steve were very helpful with giving advice on where to go and how to get there.
3.9
Wonderful classic historic building. Good location. The lake view is super nice. My only problem was remnants of harsh cleaning chemicals. Very strong, and I could tell they were the toxic kind. Please consider environmentally friendly and non-cancer causing cleaning products.
3.9
Location is perfect. In the middle of everything and CTA transit is close by. Details like door knobs sticking and older carpet could be addressed, but the layout of the room, the view, the location more than make up for it.
3.9
Our room was outdated and questionably clean. The carpet was coming up in the corners of the room and all furniture was heavily worn. The room smelled like chemicals over cigarette smoke. When we tried to complain we were told there were no other rooms available. We were here for our honeymoon and we’re disappointed. The lobby and bar area is beautiful. Just wished it was reflected in the rooms as well.
3.9
Shower had no pressure or hot water Luke warm

Overall I give this stay a 5 Star rating. It is good to know what to expect with the Congress Plaza Hotel. This was my first time in Chicago and I would stay here when I came back. This hotel is huge and has all the amenities you would need including a gym, a 24 hour business center. It even has a convenience store.
The rooms are spacious, with spacious storage space and closet. The main lobby is historically gorgeous. Parts of the hotel do look dated and a little older (the bathroom looked dated and old but it was clean). There is temperature control in the rooms too. I liked the room I was in.
The restaurant is decent and convenient but if you are foodie you might want to venture to ones outside the hotel. I recommend doing breakfast with room service since the Gazebo room tables need to be cleaned better. The one I sat at was sticky and had an odd smell. The breakfast is also pretty standard and decent. I like the convenience of these restaurants more than the quality of the food.
The security team and bell service team is the best I have ever seen. It is not usual that guests mention this portion of a hotel. I was on a business trip running a pretty intricate corporate experience and 9 boxes shipped via UPS ahead of me and then shipped back to me. This team was incredible in helping me make this smooth, organized and efficient. I would stay at this hotel again because of their stellar service alone.
All in all there is a great stay because it has everything. 5 Star
3.9
Stranger was able to walk in our room from the room next door through a conjoining door even though it was locked on our side. This took away the feeling of privacy and safety and the front desk manager was very rude when talking me all she could do is move my room and credit $40 I wonder how she would feel if a strange man walked into her hotel room while she was in the bed relaxing
3.9
Great staff and nice rooms, cool classical feel. Maybe just clean things up a bit.
