Was quite disappointed with our recent stay at the Abode. Was expecting standards to be higher than other hotels but would rate the Premier Inn higher than this. Some members of staff were very helpful but others were rude. The room was basic and very small. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls and tape was used to keep it up. The bathroom needed updating with the shower head hanging off the wall and needed cleaning. The view from the room was awful and was kept up until 2am due to the noise from the pub opposite. Asked for spare pillows but waited for 45 minutes and they didn’t come so had to go and ask again. Breakfast was below standard. English breakfast was fine but eggs benedict was cold and muffin was hard. Had to wait over 30 minutes to get the attention of staff to ask for more food and drinks. Overall would be put off from staying here again.

The location of the hotel is superb, but please do not go there expecting a 4* experience. To be fair, it isn't really priced at 4* level.
The room was quite small with basic, though comfortable, furniture. The bathroom was poorly planned with a very noisy fan, which unfortunately has to come on if you use the loo at night, because both it and the light have to be on before you can flush the toilet!
Both the room and the communal areas are showing quite a lot of wear.
We paid for breakfast which, (apart from truly awful "pancakes" which were bought in from outside and inedible) was very good, served in a nice restaurant with attentive staff.
We will try somewhere else for our next visit unless we read that the hotel has received some overdue care and attention.

We stayed overnight as the work Christmas party was in Canterbury and it meant we didn't have to drive. Hotel staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast delicious. The bar was very nice and i can recommend the home made shortbread biscuits.

Reception check in staff were very helpful. The bar service was very slow and we were almost charged for drinks we did not order. Unfortunately our dining experience was not great. My fishcakes were served and 15 minutes later, my sister who we were with, was served her meal and then about 10 minutes later while our meals were getting cold, our fries arrived. MY husbands meal was then served and when we had almost finished eating my brother in law got his burger. The food was fine except the fishcakes, very poor quality! No salad the only option was black bean salad - we would not expect this shortage at 7pm on a saturday evening.!

Great hotel in the centre of Canterbury, made it easy to see the town. Good restaurant for evening meal and breakfast. Only downside is very limited parking. We used the park-and-ride and left our car there.
Great if you want to be in the centre of Canterbury.

Great location and really beautiful and interesting building, nicely furnished and equipped. I liked the proper hairdryer (rather than a tiny one attached to the wall) and the comfortable bed, plus individual room air conditioning/heating. If you want a modern hotel, this won't be for you, but if you appreciate history, then you'll enjoy your stay.
Breakfast is ordered from a menu, rather than a buffet. Good value when included in your room price, but rather expensive if you need to purchase separately. Lovely breakfast, other than the coffee, which I didn't enjoy.
Some issues with being charged for the room twice on check in, but was easily resolved the next morning. Also no room key on check in, but again, that got sorted out and delivered to my room very quickly. Lift out of order due to flooding, but I was only on the first floor and have no mobility issues, so no real problem (although it would have been nice if the receptionist had offered to help with one of my bags when he showed me to the room).
All in all, a good comfortable stay, but there are a few things they could improve.

Right in the heart of Canterbury!! Beautiful rooms and super sized bed.

My Stay was for one night, check-in and service very helpful and quick.

A good hotel and room

Comfortable hotel in a great location with parking

Great central location. Breakfast wasn’t amazing and the lifts could be heard from the room. Very friendly staff. Big comfortable beds.

Excellent and helpful service, spacious room and bathroom and good food very nicely served. We had drummer once and breakfast twice, each time a very good experience.

Great location, we were lucky getting a car park space as hotel is bang in the centre of town, room nice and clean cocktails in the bar was lovely touch after dinner

property was not warm and cosy as advertised, very few staff members around, you need to chase to get any service, restaurant food very ordinary and overly expensive for what is was. Canterbury city centre not what it was just a few years back.
2.0
nice bar and oldie world lounge.
The problem was shower was cold...I reported this when I left and had hoped for a reduction in my bill.. but that wasn't offered

Great location. Wall tad thin, but overall good. Would stay again and planning to.
2.5
Comfortable room and staff very friendly and helpful. Very good breakfast in the morning as well.
2.0
Everything lovely apart from the noise of the warm air heating in the room. Property would benefit from having radiators.
Could have done with leaflets in the room about the history of the hotel.
2.5
Great location for Canterbury city life. Friendly and accommodating staff. very happy

Fantastic location right on Canterbury High Street, just a short walk from the Cathedral, shopping and restaurants. We had an 'Enviable' room; spacious; large, comfortable bed; right on the front of the hotel. Bit noisy at night. Difficulty finding the car park (didn't notice the special postcode on the website) which is small and was full from early afternoon (we stayed four nights) so every day had to park a 15 minute walk from the hotel at £20 for 24 hours. Overall a good choice.
2.0
Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Good decor, good parking, truly excellent location. Reasonable value.
Breakfast was disappointing. Croissants hard and overcooked and no real butter. Good tea but chewy toast.
Limited tapas menu which was expensive. The only other thing available was steak for 2 for £50; which we had, but it was not brilliant and could have done with a serrated knife.
1.5
Hotel itself was good but close to a noisy student pub which impacted sleep!
2.5
We enjoyed our stay. The room was well appointed and convenient for walking the city center. Parking was a bit of an issue, but not too far to walk to pay parking. Would recommend.

The staff gave us an upgrade to a room that was amazing! Great facilities and loved the restaurant and cocktail bar

I liked the hotel. It opens onto the main street in Canterbury so is an easy walk to shops and restaurants. Lovely size room and bathroom and very quiet, apart from a few other guests, especially the one who snored. On the day I arrived it was chucking it down with rain so it would have been nice to get into the hotel from the car park more quickly than walking all round the outside. Lots of staff around who are very attentive.
1.5
We were allocated a room near to the kitchen and had noise of the fans, asked to be moved to a quiet room, which did happen but then we were at the top of the hotel and although it was a little quieter we hadthe lift next to us and it was a shower over the bath which as we are in our 80s we found very very difficult.
2.0
The Stay was really good. When we arrived on the check in day as we arrived late we we’re allowed to park our car in the staff car park overnight only downside about hotel is that the car park is very small. There is another car park not associated with the hotel about 6-7 minute walk away.

The Abode is showing it's age, tired look and feel to it. The staff are friendly and helpful though which counts for a lot.

the room was excellent, staff friendly and helpful

It's an OK solution if you want to be central.
It does require some updating ( I get it's an old building, but it truly needs a revamp ) and wasn't spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was disappointing.
However, the location make it up for all those negative bits.

We'd had a long, difficult day, and the comfort in the room provided the opportunity to rest that we so sorely needed.
3.0
The lack of sound proofing in the rooms is still there - similar to our last stay here, sleep was interrupted. Would not recommend for a good nights sleep
3.0
Unfortunately, not a great experience and be sure to ignore that you can see the Cathedral lit up at night. That’s from ONE ROOM (most expensive room) in the hotel.
3.0
OK, so there were a few problems with this place that kinda made it not worth the premium.
Pro's
- The nicest and most helpful staff you could wish for.
- Breakfast was freshly made, rather than a buffet. Great!
- Location is superb. You're right in the heart of Canterbury.
- Beds were comfortable, although duvet was super thick, so it did get pretty hot!
- Solid WiFI
- Good Safe there for your expensive belongings.
Cons:
- Heating stopped working, so we couldn't take a shower. They said they'd reset it. But 45 minutes later and it was still tepid for us. Ended up having to wait till the evening.
- Nobody came to clean the room until 4pm, by which time we were already back! They'd said "Sorry, we're running late". But honestly... Really?
- The view was of the bins outside. I am not sure there's much they could do, but not really a pleasent thing to look out to.
- Not their fault, but there was some sort of music gig going on outside. Due to the lack of soundproofing on the windows, it didn't stop until gone 10pm. Not "too" bad, but boy that spoiled our first night!
All that said, I think we still had a nice time there. Just a bit annoyed with the general logistics of the place.

The aBode hotel is first-class. We didn't eat in the restaurant or hang out in the bar, but they both looked lovely. We managed to find affordable parking by Googling 'free parking', which led us to "Park and Ride", a parking lot outside of town which costs a mere $4.00 a day (as opposed to the $40-50 a day option nearest the hotel). We drove to this lot, parked our car and a bus was waiting to take us back to central Canterbury, an easy walk to our hotel.
Our room was lovely - two single beds in a room well appointed and immaculate. I can't believe that I could well afford such a hotel. The room rate was cheaper than many hotels that were far out of town. The cathedral is just down the street from this hotel and everything else in Canterbury an easy walk. I am grateful to have booked a room in aBode.

Comfortable stay in lovely hotel in the heart of Canterbury. Will definitely revisit!
