The hotel is beautiful, but the lack of soundproofing made sleeping a miserable experience. We were in the burgundy room closest to the front door, and we heard every conversation, door slam, and footstep of people coming and going all through the night. The street noise was loud, but I would expect that in the city. It was the interior noises that frustrated us the most.

We enjoyed our stay at the Melrose Mansion. We found a “period” property, that had about 14 rooms, located one block from the end of Bourbon Street. We felt safe walking to and from the property, and there were several restaurants within 1 or 2 blocks. The room was clean, quiet and a nice place to retreat. Though we didn’t use the pool, it looked inviting. I would stay here again.

Was just ok. Parking $50 extra a night. Was on fourth floor in a separate building from the place we thought we booked. So. That took away from the excitement of staying at Melrose mansion. Hot water in shower a disaster. Coffee gets put out late in the morning. Room was nice. There was a balcony along the room but three of the four doors were sealed shut. I thought that was stupid to not allow them to open. Took away from the character of the room. Wouldn’t book there again. Wish we could have stayed in the actual mansion.

Beautiful place. Even better than photos. Warm welcome. Near French Quarter, but quiet. Walkable to main attractions. Friendly staff. Room was spacious with loads of storage.
Pool was not inviting - don’t think it had been cleaned. For us,the weather was hot, but maybe the locals considered it out of season.

Loved the location and the style of the mansion. Very unique from traditional hotel but we loved it! Such friendly kind staff.

Fantastic. Beautiful hotel, clean and comfortable, 10-20 minute walk to everything you want to do in the French quarter.

What a great place! A nice walk to all the action in the French Quarter. The staff were great, and we even had a surprise Continental breakfast. It would have been nice to have a fridge, but that’s my only recommendation!

This hidden gem was absolutely what I was looking for. It gave me exclusive vibes with old New Orleans charm, while being steps away from the vibrant Bourbon St life. The corner markets and bars were handy and the hotel even recommended and amazing concierge service for added decor and refreshments. I will be making this a regular go to.

We stayed in the extended stay building 2A. A few things need to be fixed and changed but we had a wonderful stay. It was clean and spacious.

Caleb is AMAZING! The property has such historical charm. The only drawback is the noise from the hallway occasionally. But other than that lovely.

Loved this place. So unique, beautiful. One block from the french quarter. Will absolutely stay there again.

Interesting old Mansion on the edge of the Quarter. we were there during Mardi Gras and the location was a plus. close enough to everything but not too close.

Beautiful historic property in need of a little TLC. Great location and friendly staff.

Wonderful, I would recommend us to everyone. Wonderful facility, friendly staff.

Beautiful House and grounds, fabulous staff, close to lots of Quarter fun, but out of the louder areas.

Loved it! It was a beautiful place with lots of history. It was in the perfect location with several dining spots in the area. Walking distance to the French Quarter but far enough away to be quiet at night. Staff was friendly and helpful. It would have been nice if the pool was heated and more of a breakfast selection. I would definitely stay here again.

The hotel is in a great location- very walkable to major sights and the staff were friendly and super helpful. However, sadly that’s where the positives end. The condition of the hotel is far worse than the photos show. Our room was really tired and the shower was very mouldy with the shower head broken and hanging from the ceiling. Crusty is the only way I can describe it. There was no hair dryer in the bathroom and switches/outlets were loose and damaged, furniture around the pool area is rusty and the whole place felt a bit unloved which is sad as it has good bones. The photos of the hotel online are not what it is like in reality sadly.
The breakfast is virtually non-existent with only a few self serve yogurts and muffins, no toast, bread, warm food, cereals or service of any kind and the advertised welcome drinks / hors doeuvres didn’t exist at all.
We still had a good stay as we were out constantly but if I had planned to do more than sleep here I would’ve been really really disappointed.

Location was great not too close to the Quarter but close enough for an 8 minute walk to Bourbon Street, if that. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The chairs in the living room were not comfortable.

We had high hopes. The check-in was smooth and we were even able to get our room early in the day with no hassle. We were walked over to the building with our room and first disappointing surprise. Most of the building is under construction. We are promised it wouldn’t happen over the weekend but it still makes it a very dusty and messy environment. Next strike was the elevator, a tiny a scarily slow ride to the third floor. Then one more flight carrying our bags to what was a large bright airy top floor room. Yes it had a kitchen with high end appliances. Unfortunately the fridge didn’t get cold and freezer door wouldn’t close so it didn’t stay very cold either. But the room was large, comfortable, and clean. We came late that night to alarms going off in our building. We walked to the main building to find a security guard who seemed in no rush to find out why a fire alarm was going off. She had her phone blaring music and was sick and had literally no voice. Not sure how useful she would be if a real emergency came up given the lack of voice. She walked over to our building to turn off the alarm and showed us how she did it. Did she think that if it went off again I would be assuming the responsibility of disabling the alarm? We then proceeded to our room (skipping the scary elevator)and were taken aback by the smell of paint in the hallways. We made it through the night with no alarms but again the next evening, this time around 9pm,another alarm. We survived the weekend!

Old World Charm! Walking distance to everything in the French Quarter. The rooms were quaint and clean (we had 2 rooms), the beds very comfortable and they provided maid service daily (which is hard to find anymore). Each room is slightly different, the difference I saw was in the bathroom size. If you're a plus size person, recommend not staying in the Burgundy room. Brian and his staff were AWESOME! Very helpful and accommodating. The continental breakfast was sparse, but we ate at the Ruby Slipper a couple of blocks down Burgundy St., which I highly recommend. Would definitely stay here again just because of the staff, but access to the French Quarter, without being directly in it, was unbeatable imo. Lastly parking in NO is crazy, recommend parking there (albeit $45 a day w/ limited spaces) and Uber when you get tired of walking. Respectfully, Ron

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. Everything about our stay was perfect. Easy check in (we flew in early and they let us check in at noon!) Staff was pleasant, helpful and accommodating. Our room was bright and roomy and the entire place was immaculate. They had water and sodas in the kitchen for the taking. The location was perfect. Close enough to walk to all attractions but not as noisy as the more touristy areas. Would definitely recommend a stay here!

Melrose place was in an amazing location and the staff was very accommodating. There was a shuffle of rooms b/c of drainage issues. The staff was quick to respond. The second room was a bit outdated and the bathroom had evidence of mold. Breakfast was a nice addition however the quality of the product was less than stellar.

I enjoyed my stay. My room was comfortable and relatively quiet. Nice location away from the core of the French Quarter.
I had one major incident in the room, overnight my bathtub and toilet filled with raw sewage making my room unlivable but their management quickly got another room available for me.

Staying at Melrose was a perfect spot for seeing New Orleans. Walkable to the entire French Quarter. Short Uber ride to anywhere further. The staff made the experience so wonderful. The evening butler was so accommodating, always offering water, coffee, tea, utensils. He really made you feel cared for. The only complaint, which isn’t really a complaint. The building is old like most of the area, so the heater had to work in overdrive to keep us warm during this unprecedented cold season. It wasn’t the hotel’s fault and we wouldn’t change it because it was wonderful staying in the beautiful antique room. Would definitely consider staying again should be visit again.

What a charming place to stay! Beautiful inside, easy walk to great restaurants, friendly staff. Highly recommend!

The "continental breakfast" was pathetic - warm yogurt, one bowl of granola with a spoon (presumably to put on the yoghurt?) No bowls. Tiny, old muffins - sometimes- there were none the last day I was there. The office staff person was using very loud obscenities (on the phone, I hope) when I came downstairs on one occasion. Other customers were really noisy - shouting & slamming doors at all hours, as late as 3am.
Wonderful shower! Large, comfortable room. Close to french quarter & busses. Helpful with getting me a cab to go to airport. Good coffee. Enjoyed the free sodas.

Melrose Mansion is a very attractive B&B. I was pleasantly surprised at the very reasonable rate for the location on the Esplanade near Frenchmen St. nightlife. Our room turned out to be in the Napoleon house next door to the mansion accessed across a short alley through a variety of doors which made it a bit difficult to bring our luggage in. The room was large with a nice bed/TV but nowhere as elegant as the rooms are portrayed on the website. The receptionist was accommodating to our needs. The continental breakfast is very limited (yogurt, muffins, coffee).

I really would like to give this place a highly favorable rating. It is very well located close to the French Quarter (but outside the zone of craziness) and the Frenchmen Street restaurants and jazz venues.
Our room was excellent. Large and comfortable .
The staff was extremely nice and helpful, and gave us many good hints on things to see and do.
BUT! Every night at 9:30 or so an alarm went off in our building. I called and most nights someone came and turned it off, but on one night my calls and voicemails went unanswered and the alarm went on all night. On another night we came in late and didn’t even bother to call (the volume wasn’t deafening, and we were exhausted, so we just slept through it) No amount of communication with management of our desire that they do something to permanently address the alarm problem had any effect. This spoiled what otherwise would have been a very positive experience.
It also should be noted that during our stay, a tourist from Tacoma was shot dead a block and a half from the hotel.

Melrose Mansion was a good stay. We had the Jacuzzi room. It was spacious and hot tub was just what me and my wife needed after long hours of walking. The hotel is on the edge of the french quarter which is close close enough to walk to bourbon street, jackson square, and other tourists attractions, but far enough away where the noise and partying wont bother you. The lady at the front desk was nice and recommended some local favorite foods that was absolutely delicious. The hotel is not a fancy upscale type, but for the location, price, and cleanliness coupled with friendly staff it was well worth the money. Would absolutely stay again. One disclaimer: there is a $150 incidental that is put on hold incase of damage. We were not aware of this before or after booking. It wasnt until we checked in that we became aware. Other than that, if you plan on being out and about and just having a place to sleep and soak in a hot tub i would recommend this place.

Beautiful mansion. The location was great. I walked everywhere. Except for the garden district and Cory park. I would go back to this mansion.

I wanted to love this property, especially as the neighborhood was great, with beautiful historic homes and easy walking distance to the French Quarter. Unfortunately, the room had clearly not been cleaned, as evidenced by an empty body wash bottle on the ledge of the bathtub, trash not taken under the kitchen sink, and the tub not draining during the first shower. When we called the front desk, Jasmine, who was the acting manager, offered us a much smaller and dank suite that also looked dusty and not well-kept (we had reserved an executive suite). When we did not want to switch. She sent a maintenance man to unclog the drain and said that housekeeping would clean. The maintenance man arrived and worked on the tv (as it was not working) and then unclogged the drain and walked out, but not before showing us the massive amount of hair that was the clog culprit. Then no housekeeping arrived. Another staff person went to clean the shower/tub the next day, after we went back to the office to let him know what happened. He begrudgingly went to the room, with a bit of attitude. Our stay was for 6 nights…we asked for cleaning every day and it wasn’t done until our 4th day. To be fair, it was the holidays and Jasmine said the regular housekeeping was on break and they were using temp staff. To add insult, when we checked out, Jasmine offered to comp one night, unprompted. We didn’t receive the credit through Expedia, as promised, though we called 3 times to follow up. Disappointing.

Super comfortable hotel located across the road from the French Quarter, 2 blocks from the “quiet” end of Bourbon st and just 5 minutes walk from the French Market.
Room was fantastic with nice lounge area, comfortable bed and sizeable, clean bathroom with jacuzzi.
Our after hours check in with Caleb was a breeze with prompt communication.
We’ll definitely return.

Very charming place to stay with large and comfortable guest rooms.

The location is great, close to the French Quarter and Frenchman Street (for jazz clubs), and the house itself is interesting with a historic flair. However, it is managed with little care and imagination. Our room (Classic Deluxe, which turned out to be located in a side-building, not in the main house!) was not well kept. The furniture was sparse, and really old and dirty; the room felt empty (no sofa, just two old armchairs, with only a few old prints on the walls--time travel to the 50s or before!). The bathroom shower stall was leaking, the shower-head detached from the ceiling. The breakfast was minimalistic (plain coffee, yogurt, apples, and mini-muffins from a box), and no (or very late?) breakfast one of the days. The reservation included 'drinks and hors d'oeuvres' as amenities--there was none in sight. There is no proper front desk or lobby. Staying in the main house might be a better experience, so make sure to book a fancy room but beware that the property does not really look like in the photos online.
