Lovely hotel and staff can’t do enough for you, everyone was smiling and happy which is always a good sign. Lovely decor and lounge area, coffee and breakfast were great. Location is perfect, The bedrooms are gorgeous and the bed is the biggest you’ll ever see!
I’ll be back again soon.

The service here really lets The Alan down. Check in efficient and friendly, but the evening service was CHAOS. It literally took us 30 minutes to get served 2 pints of beer. The rooms as ever are fabulous and thats why we repeat stayed but afraid this will be our last time.

Staying at The Alan was such a delight! I arrived late, but Komal at the front desk was very welcoming and sweet. She even upgraded my room. Perfect beginning for my stay. Everyone was friendly, and the location was great. Room was spacious, had super cool decor and all in all everything was very positive. Big regards to James Sullivan and his whole team as well. Will defintely return, and I highly recommend staying at The Alan :)

Stay for one night room really cold on arrival
Empty mini bar ,tea and coffee half empty no sugar ,and really noisy with shower water drain from room next door on the morning due to all expose pipe in the room and throughout the building

Hotel was fine for the night. Mut have the slowest lifts in UK. Ended up taking the stairs multiple times but kept me fit

Not happy with our stay overall.we had a small dimly lit room but the main problem was at breakfast. The service was slow and when we did get served they gave us the wrong breakfasts and not what we ordered. So they had to be replaced which took a lot more time. We complained and the lady in charge said she would organise a refund for the breakfasts. Reception told us that they would contact you and you would sort out the refund (2x£17.00). I sent you an email regarding this on Monday 18th.but I’ve had no reply - not even an acknowledgement !

Really modern, stylish hotel. Staff were great, might be the largest bed I've ever slept in.

Gorgeous decor, great location and great reception staff. Let down by breakfast - not worth paying for. Had to wait 45 mins for cold food and we didn’t receive our coffees, but the reception manager kindly refunded us without issue.

Everything was amazing.

TV didn't work and despite notifying reception, nothing was done about it for the rest of my stay.
Attention to detail felt quite lax, apart from in the dining room.

I’ve stayed here several times, location is great and previously the rooms have been good with a 1970s municipal vibe and pink bathrooms. Be aware though that there are two types of rooms - those that have been updated and those that retain their 1990s original feature such as orange wood, beds that make you both roll into the middle, only one nightstand, a shower cubicle so small that it’s hard to wash etc. That said, we had a comfortable night but I would think twice about staying there again.
I do think the hotel is missing a trick with the bar. It could be a cosy, intimate, comfortable space, but instead it feels like part of reception, open, drafty and unwelcoming,

Ive stayed a few times here and its always hit or miss. This time the TV in the room didnt work and it took 2 people and 2 hours to come to the conclusion it didnt work. Not ideal as was on a business trip and wanted to unwind after a long day.

The service and staff were the best part of this stay. I stayed one night at The Alan for a business trip, and despite the contemporary feel of the ground floor the room was disappointing. It smelt sweaty/ musty and had more spare-room vibes (worn-in & marked furnishing, a questionable rug, random sockets that didn’t work, dated bathroom) rather than the hotel experience I was expecting.
Parking at the Q-Park, even with the discount, was extortionate but was only a very short distance away.

Bedroom was very pretty, loved the decor of the hotel foyer/ dining as well as the room itself.

Hotel was lovely, room was really spacious and clean but I did get food poisoning from the veggie breakfast so would not recommend that as we had to cancel the next 2 days of our trip.
2.5
Nice clean hotel in a great location
2.0
Great location, good sized rooms. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, offering information clearly.
Very close to the shopping district and many restaurant and cafes. Perfect for the team too.
Only a few niggles. There are two lifts and one was out of action all weekend we stayed. Slightly frustrating but has hopefully now been sorted.
The sign outside is a nightmare to see at night. The internal bulb layout makes the name unreadable from a distance so just look out for a white box on the wall.
The bathrooms advertised online does not reflect what is in the rooms. Bathrooms seem to be standard showers over bathtubs.

Firstly this hotel advertises as a hotel with parking however this is not the case! they offer a discount of 25% off a very expensive near by Qpark as we stayed 2 days parking cost us a further £70 on top of the hotel cost had we know this we would have stayed elseware.
We arrived and we initially given a room thar was not cleaned from the previous guests. We went back to reception and the girl there was very helpful changed our room immediately and also included complimentary breakfast for the following morning.
However this breakfast wasnt great. Very little in the way of continental offerings just some crossants and jams. The cooked opitions are ordered and this took over 40 mins to arrive and when it did it was overcooked and very dry.
We went to the bar for some drinks on the 2nd night and were told at 10pm that they had no lemon and lime for the gin as they had cleared up ready for breakfast! Which was very early in the night to be closing.
The room was overall good even if not really to my taste with the bare plaster walls. Overall this is a decent enough hotel but its not one id stay at again.

Unfortunately the cons far outweigh the pros.
Pros:
1. Great location, close to everything you could want/need in the city centre.
2. Straightforward check-in and check-out.
3. Breakfast choice and quality (also see cons…)
Cons:
1. Worst shower in Britain, impossible to get temperature right and had to move about to get wet.
2. Room was not that clean; carpet stains and bathroom in real need of freshening up.
3. Service at breakfast; terrible.
4. Coffee, really poor quality - almost undrinkable

The hotel pitches itself as a modern, remodelled, top quality, trendy hotel. I found it average to poor. The common areas are nicely styled, newly refurbished. Of our double, the worst bit was the bathroom. It had tiles and grout falling off the wall, ill fitting facilities and a tired mould appearance to bath area. There was no toilet brush. The bedroom was reasonably professionally repainted, but was immediately evident as a room in an old hotel given a lick of pain, rather than any substantive remodel. There are about 10 plug sockets, but all on one wall of the room, furthest from the bed. No bedside sockets at all. The plugs clearly used to serve a range of facilities that have just been removed. The bed was ok but again felt dated. Linens very clean but felt starchy rather than soft.
We found the bar menu disappointing, with everything being standard, although arguably, classics. We ate out. We tried the bar - open until 2am - for a cocktail. Again it had all the hallmarks of a place pretending to be something its not. The staff lack knowledge about how to make cocktails, the bar is not professionally stocked, you will be asked if you want your cocktails as doubles or singles - so trying to enjoy an Old Fashioned at city centre prices is like ordering a whiskey and coke in Weatherspoon's. The amount charged for two decaf coffees with a single shot each - £20+ - s too much for such a poorly performing environment. I would not return to this hotel.

Good quality and reasonable hotel in central location.

We love The Alan, it's our go to hotel in Manchester and it never disappoints
2.0
Fast efficient check in; spacious room, but dull unimaginative decor, with a bare patch in the carpet; no draft beer, both pumps out of order - seriously; breakfast staff were warm and friendly, unlike the full English which (apart from the eggs) was cold and stodgy; some good interior decor features; reasonable value but overall could be better.
2.0
The reception area smelt amazing and we loved the decor, check in and check out were seamless and the front of house staff welcoming and friendly.
The room was spacious and spotlessly clean, we liked the decor and found the bed comfy.
The location was excellent.
Downside - the shower in our room didnt drain properly and half flooded the bathroom, one of the lifts was out of service meaning a long wait. My partner has an injury currently and so we couldnt use the stairs. We were at the front of the property and found it to be a bit noisy but normal for a city centre, however the air conditioning unit/pipes in the room kept us awake more.
Didnt use the restaurant or bar, but looked a lovely place.

Great property, really large rooms and the beds are amazing! Struggled to get up. I would stay again.
1.0
Lacks some of the basics. Not enough mirrors, no plugs near mirrors. Shower temperature control had a mind of its own so took ages to warm up and then was like showering in lava.
Staff friendly. Check in staff mumbled and couldn’t hear them above music. Rattling air con all night. Female hairs from previous guests in rugs in room.
Aesthetically nice. Form over function.
4.0
Stylish decor and great value for money. The breakfast however were a bit dissapointing.

Lovely hotel, good location and fantastic breakfasts! Staff extremely polite and helpful

The reception is nice, modern and pretty cool. Unfortunately only one lift was working which was a bit of a pain. However my room was on the 6th floor and this is where it goes wrong. Exposed wires outside the lift weren't great but that was nothing compared to the disappointment when I entered my room.
The first thought is wow that's alot of wood from the 70's, next thought was that the carpet looked like it had been there for many many years. It was the bathroom that finished it off. It was essentially a wet room for those with disabilities which is fine but what I don't think I will ever get over staying in a hotel in 2024 that had a shower curtain to pull round. I can't imagine it is properly cleaned regularly, not an experience I want to repeat. The set up also meant after showering the whole floor is soaked. So if you have a shower, get dressed and then need the toilet you need to dry the floor or take your socks off and dry your feet after use.
That being said the price was ok and whilst I wouldn't rush back it did the job as it was only for a couple of nights

Normally stays here are lovely.
However on this occassion, my room wasnt great. The air con didnt work, the room was tiny, the bathroom was a disabled wet room type with a weird chair in the shower. The layout of the room didnt make sense as I had to move the TV in order to view it. There was no bottle of water and the fridge didnt work.

Excelent stay

Shower could have been better and a proper iron.

Beautifully designed property with really fantastic staff on the desk. Friendly, funny and helpful. They really created a great atmosphere. But it's a bit form over function. The chairs and sofas in the room look cool but aren't really comfortable. We moved room twice because of the air conditioning. In the first room it rattled in the second it didn't cool. The third room seemed a little better but again not really effective cooling. Lucky for us it wasn't really a hot weekend. So, mixed feelings, we liked it but I wouldn't go back in the summer.

So this is a tough one to write.
The property is amazing very industrial feel, the staff are simply brilliant friendly professional nothing a problem lots could learn from this.
The bar great selection of food and drinks and service with not just a smile a huge laugh.
Cleanliness honestly the domestic team deserve and award for the way the place is kept.
But…. The air conditioning unit in my bedroom when it went on sounded like an aircraft taking off and sadly woke me at 3am and 5.30am and well as the point of a hotel is to get some sleep (which was easy in the huge comfy bed) I didn't and meant a grumpy day.
If you are a deep sleeper go for this place I want to go back but I’m not sure cause do the air con unit.

Centrally located with efficient and friendly staff. Rooms are decent though a bit dated.

Air con wasn't very good at all, made for quite an uncomfortable nights rest.
Hotel staff were friendly, reception smells gorgeous 😍 rooms were big and good value for money.
One of our rooms had mould spots on the bedding, although inconvenient, staff swopped us to another room straight away and were very apologetic

Great location. Comfortable and quiet room. Had a good time.
