Poor lighting in room-felt dark. Safe didn’t work, floor lamp had to be unplugged to turn off/on, visible mold in shower by corner tiles and shower door sweep.
Cleaning crew blowing outside stating at 8am

All rooms face the backyard, which remains very noisy even after midnight. One of the elevators was out of order, and there was garbage on the floor that was never cleaned during our stay. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this place.

This hotel is gorgeous and in the best location. And very expensive. For the money I paid, I expected more than partially used shampoo and conditioner in the shower, no one telling us the switch in the entrance by the door controls the bathroom lights, and a remote that didn't work (two times) leaving limited access to TV. No offer of a discount when these things were pointed out. Other than this the place is beautiful and wonderful. But for the money, it should be perfect. And it wasn't.

Loved The Birchwood! The location was amazing as well as all the staff! So friendly! Excellent little boutique hotel that we’ll return to for sure!

Quiet and comfortable. Wish there was a pool and a mini fridge.

I fell in love with the vibe of the place. It’s very cool. It’s in a fantastic location right across across the street from the pier which I didn’t realize, that was a bonus. The restaurant was unbelievable ..amazing delish gourmet dishes.
they have valet parking only up until 11front desk is closed between 11 PM and 7 AM. After 11 self parking in a very busy area.
the elevator to the rooftop lounge only worked until the the third floor and you had to go outside take 4 flights of stairs, it was hot 🔥
Beds were more comfortable than most beds.
The only problem was that they were both on a wood frame and would creek loudly when you got in and out.
That aside we love the area. There are restaurants and things to do all around within walking distance the beautiful pier across the street. We will be back definitely

Just a little bit of a hardship is that they have valet parking only up until 11 is closed between 11 PM and 7 AM. After 11 self parking would not be very close to the hotel, somewhere down the block, which seemed almost impossible. They only have one person who works both the desk and the valet so there is some wait time they could use more employees doing that.
Two things that were a little bit of an issue, but definitely not a dealbreaker and we will be back..

The only problem was that they were both on a wood frame and would creek loudly when you flipped over or when you got out of it. whenever my husband would get up or move, it would wake me up, but I am a light sleeper, I can't imagine what it would sound like if you were doing anything else lol

Great hotel.

The staff was amazing and our room was very clean. We stayed on a Monday so the restaurant in the hotel was not open, which was a bummer. But, there are so many easily accessible restaurants in the area, so it wasn't too bad. The lights in the "overnight" or "after hours" elevator did not work, so it was pitch dark in there. Take the stairs if you are leaving the hotel after 11pm! Over all, it was a great stay with a beautiful room! I would stay here again.

This hotel is in a perfect location for the downtown area. It’s across the street from the water and park, and is walkable to everything downtown. They offer valet parking at an extra cost, but it’s worth it. It’s no where near St Pete’s Beach, but if you’re looking for a downtown location, you can’t beat The Birchwood. You will be close to all the restaurants, bars, nightlife, museums, shops…

Not great. Too loud, A/C didn’t work, included breakfast was underwhelming, bed was uncomfortable.

This hotel is very pretty and a tad more affordable than some other properties in St. Petersburg. The only negative is no pool, which I didn’t think I wanted but in the Florida heat, may have been welcome. The room was large and well kept and furnished, very pretty. The area is perfect and centrally located. Step outside and all of St. Petersburg is at your doorstep. If u need to get your car for a drive, I found it was easy to ask and brought around quickly. We spent 2 nights over a weekend. Yes, there was noise from the rooftop but I didn’t find it hindered my sleep. The tv sound can even that out, so it really wasn’t an issue. I also dined at Teak for brunch which was also very good, and a beautiful location. I would def return to this charming property.

It would be nice if the hotel room had a refrigerator

Well restored rooms that our spacious and clean, but some rooms are not private and look out onto a walkway. Worse, the water quality makes the soap and shampoo leave you with an oily feeling. Plus, the shower head is a “rain” style from the ceiling - looks nice but annoying to use. The bath tub was gorgeous. NO staff from 11p to 7a?!? Valet parking is a hassle due to understaffing. Rooftop bar is lovely and the hotel has an excellent location on the waterfront. Breakfast was free but minimal, so have low expectations.
3.0
Way overpriced. Property is very tired and needs upgrading. Very poor water pressure and couldn’t even turn the knobs on the bath tub. Huge cockroach in our sink the first morning. Mattress needs replaced and bed very squeaky. No real amenities at the hotel. It’s advertised as having breakfast, but no real breakfast options… Not even a full Continental in my opinion. I am gluten-free and there were no options for me at all. Very overpriced for the lack of offerings. The only plus was the location. All in all just way overpriced for the lack of amenities and breakfast options.

The location is perfect and the rooms are stunning.

Parking at this hotel is awful. Tried calling the hotel to find out where to park for check-in and no one answered. Had to call the restaurant to get anyone. Once checked in, they do valet your car. But had to be back before 11:00pm or no more valet and park on street and risk a ticket as there is absolutely no parking area/lot for hotel guests. Room was just average, stayed in better. Carpet was stained throughout. Nothing special that’s for sure for the price. Very crowded downtown but if your there for that, one might like the location. Should have stayed at Vinoy, but wanted to try something new. Won’t stay here again!

The good: Very awesome location. Not exactly in the middle of everything but thats a good thing because then you wouldn't be right across from access to watching the sun rise. Numerous restaurants within walking distance along with bars, museums, parks, etc.
The bad: With the location being where it is, it is a little on tge noisy side. I don't think its as bad as some of the others are saying but for a Wednesday and Thursday night it had its moments. Parking was a pain. They valet but I've never been a fan of valet parking and that leaves metered parking from 9am-10pm or a parking garage about a 10 minute walk away. Either way you're paying at least $20 a day to park if you walk/use public transportation.
The "kinda picky" things: While the tile outside looks nice, its not the greatest for flip flops and rain, and it rained on Wednesday, a lot. A little slippery in areas. The bed was comfortable but the sheet kept popping off and the crinkly(assuming protective leak guard) layer under the sheet was kind of annoying. I get the purpose of it, just pointing it out. No mini fridge. Would be nice to have some cold waters/drinks.

The beds were comfortable and clean. The floors were carpeted so expect a dusty carpet smell, but that probably some from the nature of this being an older building. Everything was really nice. There is noise from the nightclub, but the noise doesn't last old night. The stay was nice, and the service was friendly. I would stay here again.

The hotel and staff are amazing. Rooms large and comfy. My only minor complaints are:
1) Parking is by valet, which is inconvenient if someone not at front desk when you want to leave. We might have waited 10-15 minute at most so not a huge deal after first miss of human to fetch our car we built in extra timeto get our car.
2) Dinner. We decided to dine at the hotel on the patio for our last meal before heading home. I ordered the expensive steak, blue rare and their "advertised 1 lb baked potato" - extra cost for any side. The steak arrived on its on on the plate. Naked slab of beef. No grill marks. It was grey in color as if done in the microwave. Baked potato was ordinary. Very disappointing. On its own also.
3) The rooms have no mini refrigerator, despite their large size. I asked if we could get one and was told that they were all in use and if one came free, we would get it. Never happened in the 3 nights we spent at the hotel. Only saving grace was the staff at the bar on the main floor was very amenable to givng us ice buckets full of ice for the wine and proseco in our room. A minor inconvenience but hats off to the bartenders.
Otherwise we loved the stay at the Birchwood and will be back next year for Blue Jays Spring Training. Thank you to the terrific staff.

Amazing location. Excellent and very attentive staff. Love that its got the older historical feel to it but modernized with great amenities.

The A/C in my room didn't work until I reported it to the front desk-who fixed it immediately after I spent a restless night in a too hot room. Entrance closed after 11pm and didn't open until 8. Lighting in room was poor. Location is fantastic, staff is great. Seems they have a staffing problem but if that and the A/C is fixed I'd recommend this place.

Love the Birchwood. Good Bar, Good food, Good location, Good staff ... they just need an extra staffer around the front desk ... be back this weekend

Fantastic Victorian room! Great tub 🛁 plenty of room and windows overlooking the park. Don’t count on a quiet room. Hotel in middle of all the action!
The staff was very accommodating and were responsive to all my extra needs getting ready for a wedding. Great roof top bar looking over the city.
2.5
A great boutique hotel in the heart of downtown St. Pete. Enjoyed drinks at their roof top bar with beautiful views of the water. Very comfortable bed and good breakfast. Toilets needs a few extra flushes but in these vintage hotels these things happen.

The Restaurant on site had very poor staff. Two members of our party asked to split an entree and the waiter stated that it was not a problem. It was delivered on one plate. When asked for a separate plate, the waiter ignored the request. We then asked the floor manager that came by for an extra empty plate and he ignored our request twice.

Canopy rooftop bar is outstanding and bar staff was terrific! Great view of Bay.
Our room was a little dark and no full length mirror on any wall.

Great area of mostly historic hotels. This one has an amazing rooftop bar. I had a hard time getting hot water to the bathroom. It took like 15 minutes to warm up. Otherwise great stay.

Always love a night at The Birchwood.

The room was very comfortable with a huge, beautiful bathroom. The staff was very friendly and and accommodating. Valet parking was extremely convenient. The hotel is in a beautiful area as well. My only complaint is that it is very loud at night. The nightlife in the weekend was so loud, it made it difficult to sleep until very late at night.

Perfect stay for our concert. Would stay there again.

While I love this hotel, the location is great, the staff is wonderful… the rooms are very dated and I desperate need of a refresh.
The rooms and bathrooms are very large but they are also very old and dated. If they were updated I would give this hotel an A+++

Great location, and elegant accommodations.
