We had an enjoyable trip visiting Orkney & staying at the Ayre hotel.

We first stayed @ the hotel in 2012 & 2013 on an archeological tour. We returned to visit the Ness of Brodgar dig site so we knew the hotel before we came. It has gone through some changes since first we visited but the evening meal was still excellent as were the staff!

We were disappointed with the breakfast which was not as good as we remembered with a smaller selection of items which frequently ran out I.e. Danish pastries, orange juice. The fried eggs seemed a bit over cooked at times! We also recognised the carpet leading to the restaurant from our 2012/13 visit & hope that it will be included in your renovations at some point soon.

The stay was satisfactory and I would go there again.

The location was excellent. Near the Information bureau and the bus station. The room was large enough and very clean, as was the bathroom.

Restaurant was okay. Although we had some red wine which was not very good. We pointed this out to the manager. The staff were a bit abrupt with their customers.

The bed was the most uncomfortable mattress I have slept on, it was all sunken in the middle and had hard bits through it.

Very good

Lack of fresh fruit and at breakfast and food could be a little cold with sitting too long. Great location within walking distance of the centre of town.

Breakfast could be improved if it was served rather than buffet style. Evening meals in comparison were excellent with a good choice of food.

A pleasant base for our stay exploring the Orkneys with a nice restaurant for meals

Ideal location for exploring Orkney and its city, Kirkwall. Staff were really helpful and friendly.

It missed on having a comfortable lounge to sit in, the bar was large but largely tables and upright chairs. During our stay work was going on in the day outside out room but apart from our arrival day when we had to close our curtains to have a nap it was not a problem as we were out all day!

Absolutely wonderful. Be patient with the renovations - they will be worth it.

It was all just wonderful. I will be honest: we had had no idea what to expect when we arrive, but your establishment turn out tau be absolutely delightful, the staff wonderful, and comfort really good, the food excellent, and the fun in the bar (especially with Jason) hard to adequately verbalise.

The worries beforehand that it might have been a hovel - on the contrary, it was fantastic, and we still talk about it, even though we stay in five-star hotel around the world.

The room service was a bit irregular (none on the first day, but apparently twice on the second day of our stay).

Very nice stay

Food was delicious and location was very convenient. We had to check in at 2 in the morning due to the ferry crossing time and someone was still there to cheerily help us get settled.

Comfy beds and convenit location with parking.

Room was facing a wall about 4 feet away and was above 2 exterior doors, so noisy. Smelt of cigarette smoke when you opened the window as staff smoked below. Poor value for money as no better than a Premier inn
