There was nobody at the hotel. The wifi connection was terrible. I was working and needed it. When I called the number listed there in case of problems, I wasn't called back for about 45 minutes. When I finally managed to speak with an employee, they refused to move me to another room. Terrible service.

One shower door had a broken roller so did not roll. My husband tightened the toilet seat since it was loose and he tighten the bathroom doorknob since it was ready to fall.

Such a beautiful and awesome place. Will be staying there every time we’re in Sacramento !

Beautiful place & even cooler cuz there was an event taking place that evening in the wedding area of the hotel. However, the tv didn’t work, the water took forever to heat up and the bathroom sink stopper got stuck and we couldn’t open it so there was a little pool of water sitting in there. Lights were flickering in both the main room and restroom.
Room was huge though, high ceilings and pretty. Close to everything downtown/midtown. Lots of cool spots within walking distance.

It was a beautiful hotel parking was close by easy walking distance about half a block away. It was clean area felt safe.

The hotel is in an amazing old building, in keeping with the area and historical nature of Sacramento, if slightly eccentric in its interior design. Our room was magnificent with high ceilings, antique-looking furniture, lots of space and comfort. The in-room hot tub was modern and worked -- it was a great and memorable stay! There's no front desk clerk and no breakfast or other services to be seen. Parking is not particularly convenient and costs. So, it worked for me, but is not "full service" if that is what you need.

I love this place. Will be staying there again if I need a hotel in Sacramento again.

I loved the rooms and vibe of the hotel. I loved the history of it. They need to do a better job advertising their beautiful bathrooms! Girls if you like to soak in tubs book here! I only had a few small issues. Check in was a little different and rushed. At first it was fine, staff was still polite, however once the staff left (literally handed me the keys on the way out the door,) there was no staff to man the place. I wanted a stopper for the tub in my room and I couldn't get one. Also the TV was not working. There was literally no one of grounds to even talk to about the small issues. Even when I checked out there was no one. I would stay here again because of the features, affordability, and location but the service was disappointing.

We got to stay in the Hopkins Suite on the third floor. The hotel was absolutely stunning and a short walk to some great restaurants. Very easy to check in and out. Friendly staff. Coffee pods, creamer and sugar were available downstairs for the Keurig in our room. Huge shower/spa in our bathroom and the bed was incredible and so comfortable. Best sleep I've had while traveling.

Loved the hotel! Old Victorian house with tons of charm. Our room was in the back of the house, so it was quiet. Only complaint was the metered street parking. We paid over $5 for two hours this morning, but parking is limited to 5 hours max. Otherwise, you can park down the street in a paid lot. Not sure what their rate was. Otherwise, very charming.

I can't remember the gals name that was so patient with me throughout check-in haha. I was all over the place. Just got off my almost 3hr road trip. They were texting me keeping me updated the whole time. Made sure to give me a kind text while i was on my way home. Don't get me started on the cuteness and spacious room my friend and i had. Omg what a dream! Definitely going to book all my next stays here.
1. Great area
2. Might see a wedding go down
3. Nice quiet rooms for busy city mornings
4. Plenty of mirrors
5. Last but not least GREAT STAFF! <3

The room was nice as was the location, but be aware, this is a popular wedding venue and there can be loud music. This one ended a little after 10:00pm so it was good after that.

We got locked out of the hotel and then our hotel room! We arrived at 6:30 pm after a flight delay and the lobby door was locked. I called the number and was able to eventually access the lock box and our room key. We entered our room, put down our things and went out to dinner. BIG MISTAKE! We returned and our key wouldn't open the front door. Other guests were stuck outside also. Eventually another guest opened the front door for us from the inside. We went up and were horrified to find out that our key also coudn't open our hotel room door. Other guests were complaining about the same thing. It took about 2 hours to get back into our room. We had to wait on the floor of the hallway, exhausted, for an employee to come and unlock our door. It gets better! A women in a room next to us told us that she had walked in to her hotel room only to find A NAKED STRANGER in her room! Apparently someone broke into the lock box and took one of the keys and let themselves in. SO FRIGHTENING to be a woman traveling alone and find someone in your room. AVOID THIS HOTEL!

Walking distance to restaurants and night life. Parking garage is super close and $15 per night. The hotel was very quiet. The hotel is contactless but for us there was no need to have person to person interaction anyway..checking in was easy. BUT the hotel looks like it needs a lot of updating. It’s an old hotel as it is but there’s alot of areas in the hotel and room that need paint touch ups or have damage to wood due to age or water. It’s not the ritz but it was worth the $215 total for the Hunnington Suite. The hotel looks like it needs to be cleaned (vacuumed ect, the same cocktail drink someone left in the lobby area was there when we checked in at 4 pm and still there when we checked out the next day at 11am. ) So it just seems like there isn’t a staff to clean up after people or maintain. Our room was clean and well maintained. Jacuzzi was a nice end to the night. AC works good. Windows open for a breeze too. No microwave in room but one in the lobby. The sink leaked but didn’t bother me much.

In general it’s ok. Stayed the night before my daughter’s wedding. We had no hot water in the shower. No vanity or table in the bathroom to put any of your stuff on. Free standing sink that wobbled everywhere (not secure to wall or the floor). Sat at the end of the bed and the whole back end lifted up. Floors creek bad (doesn’t surprise me since it’s a very old building). Not worth almost $200 a night. Go somewhere else. Homeless and crackheads up and down the street yelling, it is unsafe to walk around outside even during the day.

The Sterling Hotel is a lovely, old building. The rooms are large, including the bathroom. It’s been updated but has retained its old world charm.

The worst hotel stay I've had in years. No staff on site, was locked out of the room for hours (nobody able to help even when I called the "emergency number"). No check in instructions sent to me (couldn't get a hold of anyone, had to have another guest to call the hotel owner to help me access a lockbox with my room key). No free parking. Homeless people sleeping outside the hotel.
Otherwise, the room was very nice and comfortable, spacious room, the hotel is very quiet and peaceful (perhaps there were few guests at the time of my visit)

The place is nice, and its old built in 1894. I would have thought they would maintain the property better. The curtain rods over one of the windows was bent. Allowing light in the morning and one window had a desk in front of it so the curtain didnt close well again allowing more light in, in the morning. One of the pillows ahd sweat gri ge on it and it smelled like somebody elses head. My wife was grossed out by it as was I. The parking was horrendous and expensive. No staff on site most of the time. Though when they were there were nice and friendly. I guess when it comes down to it, we prefer to stay in places like this (cute/old/historical) but this place left alot to be desired. If we ever have to stay in Sacramento again we will definitely choose a different property. We thought we were really going to like the place, we wanted to and to be honest it wasn't the worst place we've stayed, but we expected more. Even when I pulled up in the loading zone to check in a construction worker came to my window amd asked if i knew i couldn't park there. I told him i am checking in here i just want to check in put my bags in the room and will find a proper place to park. He kinda looked at me weird and said ok but you cant stay here. (I know what a loading zone is) ends up he was a worker working on the hotel. Just a weird experience all around. Disappointed a bit but it served its purpose for our business there

No one was at the front desk after 4 PM. The receptionist was located behind a cage. The water faucet in the bathroom leaked all night long and there was no one was there to fix it. We were scared that if something happened, there was no one there to help us. The location seems to be transitional, so it was not the best of locations downtown

The Sterling is a gorgeous old hotel. Definitely recommend staying there. Quiet and beds are comfortable. Only thing that bothered me was the that sink in our room was dripping and made a very loud echoing noise when hitting the drain. We had to leave the TV on and when the AC kicked on it blocked out the noise.

Really liked the style and character of the Sterling Hotel. Our room was large and reflected the 1894 time period. The bathroom was updated and very nice. The one negative was the furniture was a mix match of older furnishings that did not fit and failed to provide the charm I expected.

There's no front desk staff to address issues or concerns. Furniture had stains, other items were broken.

The hotel itself is nice. Our room was clean, lobby was clean, beds were comfortable, very quiet (which I really appreciate). But the negatives were bad enough that we won’t stay again. It’s nearly impossible to reach anyone by phone. The door is locked, so you don’t get there between certain hours you’re SOL. They use an app to get a digital key (which would let me into the building, but never worked to get into our room. When I checked in (after the receptionist let me in), she gave me key cards and told me they’d text me when the room was ready. Luckily, we came to our room before they shut down for the day, because the digital AND the key cards didn’t work! Has to go back to the lobby and get new keys. Then we later left to go get dinner, came back to our room and the keys didn’t work - again! But by now, there’s no one in the lobby. I’m calling all the emergency numbers they had listed and on the third attempt I finally reached someone by text message. They helped me get an extra key from a lock box and after a 30 minute panic, we finally got into our room. I was lucky, and the person I texted was very nice and helpful. I’ve stayed at a lot of Airbnb’s, and never had so much trouble. I hate leaving negative reviews, sorry.

I loved the classic beauty of the Sterling. Staff was helpful when I locked myself out. The bathtub looked a little sketchy.

My husband and I came to this property for our honeymoon and loved the beautiful room we stayed in! The staff made everything easy and were very friendly! This was a great honeymoon stop. Sac Town is worth it, and so I this property!
