About this house rental

Norwood Arthouse, a listed heritage within the World Heritage of the Blue Mountains. Built in 1888 by the pioneering Neate family, it’s restored to its glory recently with artistic stylings and modern comforts. With spacious lounges, century-old fireplaces, private gardens, nostalgic verandas, commercial kitchen, 7 ensuite bedrooms, generous carpark & outdoor space, it’s a social hub ideal for families gathering, workshops and wellness retreat.

Norwood Arthouse has been one of the prominent landmarks on the Great Western Highway over a century in the Blue Mountains. Even the building has gone through a series of modifications, it has retained its early form and much of its external configurations. Norwood’s architectural design is classical with a front porch and a roof-top balcony at the center of the facade accompanied by symmetrical gabled roofs, cement chimneys and glass windows.

Entering Norwood Arthouse is like traveling back in time. You are stepping on the same timber floor where the pioneers used to walk on over a hundred years ago.

There are two magnificent lounge rooms on the two wings of the house after you come through the foyer. Both of them are grand and spacious to accommodate private gatherings. The South Wing is bedecked with contemporary wallpaper, sophisticated art and comfortable Furnitures in modern-country style.

The North Wing has a mini library and office space and with large TV for Entertianment, the space is perfect for coning together as group.
The four original fireplaces are the social centers in a typical Blue Mountain night. They have been infusing this group-oriented space with warmth and lights mingled with laughter's, fun and relaxations for many generations.

Next to the North Wing lounge room, it is a L-shape sunroom facing both north and west.

Here is our dining area with full sun and is replete with an array of houseplants, beautiful furniture and dinnerware. The substantial rustic table can seta a full house, making this another great space to spend time together. For group dinner, this area is large enough for 14 people to share a meal.

The middle section of the North Wing is a full commercial kitchen including a small espresso bar. This is a unique feature making private dining experience possible.

Passing the kitchen, there are 7 bedrooms all with En-suites. In total, maximum of 14 people can be accommodated. Here are the room and bed configurations:

Guest Room 1 with ensuite - 2 X Single beds
Guest Room 2 with ensuite - 1 Queen bed with Bay window
Guest Room 3 with Ensuite - 2 Single XL BedS
Guest Room 4 with ensuite - 1 x Queen bed
Guest Room 5 with ensuite - 2 X single XL beds
Guest Room 6 With ensuite - 1 Queen bed with Bay window
Guest Room 7 With ensuite - 1 Queen bed with Bay window

All these bedrooms are lavishly furnished with luxurious sheets, down duvets, French flax pillowcases and treasure objects.

Stepping outside from the North Wing, the grand veranda is set up with comfortable outdoor entertaining area. A very private and cozy spot for book and coffee or Glass of Wine.

Walking towards to the back of the house, there is a splendid garden with over 1,000 sqm in land size covered by old pine trees and surrounded by exotic mountain flora. During wintertime, the outdoor fire pits will be set up in this area. In summertime, it will be a perfect BBQ zone.

The parking space in Norwood is very generous. There are car parks on both side of the house which can easily accommodate 8 medium size cars. At entrance of the South Wing car park, there is one Tesla charging station.

What a beautiful property. With fireplaces and multiple sitting areas we were spoilt for choice of where to hang out. We had a large group and had a wonderful dinner that we cooked onsite. We were all able to sit at one of the large dining areas comfortably, then had a few wines in one of the sitting rooms. The house is in a great location and Wendy and Wayne were very helpful with our requests. The welcome platter was a lovely surprise. We would definitely be happy to stay again.

Great place for large groups. Plenty of living areas to spread out in, although we found we only used 1/2 of them. Wayne and Wendy were great with communication and very accomodating when we had an unexpected event take place. Trains were a little noisy, but we were aware of this before we arrived. Loved the Sauna !

This house had a lot of rooms to comfortably house 9 of us adults in queen or twin beds in 7 rooms. (A lot of houses offered a couple of queen beds and bunk beds for this number of people). All rooms had ensuites which was great. Being such a big house it had the potential to be cold but this house had more then enough heating. The large commercial kitchen was a bonus and we had a chef come in and cater for us. Having a sauna was super special too. I will be informing property management of a couple of maintainance things to be fixed for the next people staying.

We had an awesome weekend at Norwood Arthouse. The best bits being all the space for my friends & I, the great kitchen facilities, many bathrooms & the proximity to trails & Blackheath town center. Made the weekend super easy.

The house was welcoming when we arrived with lamps on and fresh flowers on the dining table. With 6 of us on the weekend we all had a bedroom with an ensuite. We loved that there are so many different living areas and the kitchen is very well equipped if you want to do serious cooking. The garden is big with several sitting areas as well as the fire pit and sauna. There is some noise from the highway and trains at night but not enough to be a problem.

There were some positives which I note here: Could accommodate 7 of us comfortable with own ensuite Beds were comfortable and linen clean. Excellent hot water. But there were more negatives: The house is on a terribly busy main road and the traffic noise is loud and continuous, even through the night and located directly opposite the rail line so trains also contributed to noise. Subsequently, we had very little sleep The commercial kitchen was large enough to cater for a big group, but filthy ie splash back still covered in fat & had clearly not been swept or mopped properly which put us off cooking. The plates, glasses etc were all mismatched and more suited to a large catering venue rather than a luxurious home The bedrooms were dark and pokey not with furnishings as described. There were not a full set of towels in all rooms. The shower bases were disgusting, and all bathroom stuff was old. No electric blanket on bed It was a cold weekend and there were only a few logs of wood (only supplied for winter months) so we had to buy wood, kindling and fire starters. We moved a couch to find so much stuff (Christmas decorations) and mess underneath. The actual couches and other furniture were also filthy This house was quite odd and certainly does not reflect the grand descriptions portrayed. At a different price point this property may be suitable for a group, but we were expecting something really special to celebrate our 60th birthdays and were highly disappointed.

Great property. Great experience. Things went smoothly from check in to check out. The house has a quaint old world charm. Thirteen adults enjoyed the many comfortable spaces, garden, fire pit and sauna. The location was perfect and the noise from GWH didn’t bother us much even at night as the bedrooms are at the back. Despite some previous reviews to the contrary we found the kitchen serviceable and adequate for a short stay. Family voted a return visit! Thank you Wendy and Wayne
