About this cabin rental
Comfortable and cosy, this cabin is nestled under old redwoods in the Mendocino sunbelt. The front deck is sunny and warm and overlooks a long open meadow. It is deep in the redwoods, but 12 mins from Mendocino village and the coast. ( Pets: Well-behaved small dogs allowed - extra pet fee of $10/night charged.)
Covid 19 update: AirBnB guidelines for airing, cleaning and sanitizing are followed.
Our main house is also available next door (sleeps 7):

The space
Warm and welcoming, this cabin has two small bedrooms a good-sized living room, bath, kitchen - dining nook and a large deck with a beautiful view. The decor is natural and relaxing, with hand glazed Heath tiles, hardwood floors, organic paint, and all essentials for a comfortable short break. There's a fridge, dishwasher, gas stove and microwave in the kitchen, shower in the bathroom. It is a haven to be in a smart little space in a big meadow in the redwoods.
Guest access
There is a shared driveway with the owners cars - but plenty of space for parking. There is a large deck and entire cabin.
The property is on the corner of a t-junction and the actual entrance is on Little River Airport Road, even though the address is on Comptche Ukiah Road. It is the first functional driveway (ignore the disused one!) If you arrive after dark, there are sensor lights to light your way.
There is a key box to the left of the front entrance of the cabin (not the side shed door, which is the first door you see by the driveway - keep going around to the front deck and main entrance) so you can let yourselves in. The key safe is in a grey plastic box which is magnetically attached to a base. You can detach it and slide the plastic cover to reveal the numbers. Line up the three code numbers - the place to align them is actually the bottom of the case and then pull the base out, swing it open and the key is stuffed inside.
Other things to note
Mendocino County charges an 11% Transient Occupancy Tax on short stays. We ask you to pay this tax through AirBnB (in Help > Resolution Center > Send Money) as it is not included in the listing price - thank you. We want to keep AirBnB for the future of our community and paying the tax ensures that it won't get banned. There is also a pet fee of $10 per night to pay through the same resolution center.
The owners live in the main house next to the cabin, but may not always be present.
We follow strict Covid protocols in cleaning and sanitizing to ensure your safety.
We encourage guests to get travel insurance in this time of instability and quarantine!

Appreciated our sunny pocket of Mendocino! Comfortable, clean and great baby amenities like a high chair and crib!

Nice place. Away from the road so safe for dogs.

Enjoyed our trip to the Mendocino Coast. About six miles from the coast located in the redwoods. We were able to bring our pet.

Lovely home in a quiet place. The house was very cold when we arrived (54 F) and it took a while to heat up. Once the bedroom doors are closed, the rooms stop being heated up by the living room heater. The duvets were very warm so that helped for the nights. And once the house gets warmer, it's spacious, cozy and well equipped. Location is great as well, close to Mendocino. We overall had a comfortable stay and would recommend!

Our family arrived at 6:30 PM to the property. Our family unloaded our belongings into the house. We found two kitchen trash cans were full, the bathrooms had wet towels hanging on the shower head, towel hooks and racks. The beds were not made. We messaged the number listed on the reservation confirmation email at 6:45 PM. There was no answer. We called the number that was listed at the house several times. It was difficulty to get through due to the spotty cell service. My husband, 9 year old and 12 year old waited in the home usure if we will stay here. Because it was late and we had our kids we started to look for other places to stay but difficult because we had our dog with us too. My husband found a place to stay down the street so we packed our belongings and drove there to only find out they did not leave the key for us. From 7:30 to 8 pm we were unsure where we would stay. Mendocino had very spotty cell service so it wasn't until after 8 pm that we received a text from this location that the cleaner got sick. Cleaners were sent to the house and we received a text at 9 pm that house is ready followed by a message saying "A bottle of wine receive your forgiveness". At that moment we did not forgive. We arrived and the cleaners were at the property cleaning. We did not get into the house until 9:30 PM.
Events that frustrated us were it was late in the day, we had our kids and dog with us, unreliable cell service and dark roads to the house. We will not stay here again

We loved our stay at the Cabin in the Redwoods! It was quiet and remote, yet only a short drive to enjoy Mendocino. While the rain kept us from enjoying the deck, we still enjoyed the view of the meadow. We appreciated the extra space heater to keep the kids’ bedroom warm. We did a little light cooking and had all the pots and pans needed. Would definitely stay here again!

The home was super clean and came with everything we needed. I just wish the listing stated that the property was directly facing the other home that was also being rented out by a large family which made it uncomfortable to be outside a lot because we would be directly looking at the other property where they were bbq everyday other than that the property was beautiful.

Cabin was very clean and well stocked. Bathroom stopped flushing and after removing the lid was able to get it working again. Only other issue was the folks in the other house stayed outside late. No problem with that, they were enjoying themselves. I just had to close all my blinds facing their house as they could see in.

We had a wonderful time. Liz's cabin was perfectly comfortable. Everything we needed. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch sipping wine. Thank you!

We liked the privacy of the location. It was a peaceful place and the beauty of the forest was everywhere. The long and winding roads do mesmerize.

Property was excellent perfect for two people and dogs . It was the cleanest property I have ever stayed in . Keep in mind this property is next to the main house . There is a shared yard . We had major issue with the Wi-Fi . No access to reboot modem . Cell service is an issue with many carriers, so plan on a web disconnect ! No washer /dryer access , plan ahead for that also !. Quiet nice spot !

The way the house is heated leaves it very cold for the first six hours and then unevenly heated in the bedrooms. It really dinged the experience and fortunately we had a space heater with us. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay!

Nice place, BUT very poor communication/directions, very cold, and a sour moldy smell/air quality inside.
The entry directions on the VRBO listing (which is where you get them) are wrong and the host does not give the door code in advance. It took a 1/2 hour to gain entry w/nonsense instructions to open a magnetic box (which was actually a lock box needing a code to open) and a lengthy call to VRBO to get the code which in the end opened the door.
So, upon entry the place was 44 degrees and had a sour/mold smell. The dehumidifier tray was completely full of water and the remote to the gas heater/stove was not working for us. Someone had set it to 90 degrees even though there were explicit instructions to not set it above a certain temperature so that it would work for the next guest. It seemed to us that someone else was trying to get comfortable too. I called the "host" for help and she could not hear or understand me because there was too much restaurant background noise on her end. After a few frustrating short calls (she had to keep ending the call and was supposedly going to call back in 5 minutes) we manually started the heater/stove and got heat going.
At this point (and an hour later) we did not see how the bedrooms would warm up enough to sleep comfortably at night, we were still in our jackets & cold, had missed our dinner reservation, were feeling so unwelcomed, the place seemed to have not been attended to, and we decided to leave to find other accomodations. This was a funky way to begin our vacation.
I called Liz, the host, & once again she had difficulty hearing me, did not understand what the problem was, and after repeating myself a few times understood that we were leaving.
Upon our return home I wrote to her via our VRBO reservation, explained in detail all of the above, and nicely requested a refund. Her response was that we had been extreme in our reaction and that even though the guests before and after us told her that "all was good" she was willing to refund 1/2 because VRBO may have listed wrong directions to enter. We were willing to accept that & I thanked her.
After waiting one week, I wrote to inquire as to when we may expect to see the refund with no response. I have texted, contacted on VRBO, and left her 2 v.m.'s, with no response. I waited before writing this, but I am so frustrated by being ignored after a frustrating experience. This host is listed as the owner, but she claims to be just the host.

House was very nice on the interior. Exterior needs TLC. Entry with broken down dry-rotted fences created a very questionable 1st impression. Granted this was in February and with a rugged winter still happening. Dead Christmas tree in parking area. Garage and junk in carport not good. Expansive lawn area, trees and new orchard area are nice. Prior to arrival, we had no communication with the host with multiple attempts. The provided telephone number was a land line that was no longer in service so we couldn't call or text, therefore, we had no access to the house. Fortunately the housekeeping service was there when we arrived which was very helpful. The 1st night was great. The next day heavy winds began late morning while we were away. When we returned at 4:30 PM, the power was out and we had a hard time communicating with the housekeeping service contact and the host (actual homeowner) - again due to the remote location and spotty service. A storm was coming in, while we did have heat, we had no electricity, cell service, or internet. We left the house at 6:15 PM and returned back to the Bay Area. We understood the power outage was affecting 2,600 households. Weather is mother nature and can't be controlled by anyone, however, due to the weather coupled with the remote location and not knowing when the power would be restored, we felt it best to head home.

We enjoyed our stay even though it stormed the whole time. Was very relaxing and cozy. Will come again.

The property is beautiful. The view from the kitchen table was peaceful as we watched the deer graze among the lush trees. It’s quiet and feels secluded yet your only 6 miles from town.
