About this apartment rental
Stunning olive mill, built in 1764, sensitively restored & converted recently by the architect owner into a well appointed, spacious & comfortable house. The self contained garden apartment for 5 people occupies one wing of the house. The large 12 x 6m. heated salt water pool is set within a delightful walled courtyard garden, with a selection of terraces & lawns for al-fresco eating, sunbathing, games & relaxing. Electric gates give access to the house, secure parking & the secluded half acre garden which includes a wildflower meadow. A peaceful location to get away from it all, yet only a couple of minutes' stroll into the centre of Lorgues with its famous market, shops & range of restaurants. The mill enjoys wonderful views over the village to the Maures mountains. This beautiful area is set between the mountains & the Mediterranean sea - perfect for touring. There are many historic villages & famous Provencal vineyards close by.
Access to the house: The main auto route, the A8, is just 20 minutes away so Nice, Cannes, Aix en Provence, are all about an hour's drive. Monaco and Italy are an easy day's outing or you could take a trip to Corsica by ferry from Nice. Toulon-Hyeres, also an hour's drive to our house, is a hassle-free provincial airport served by Ryanair, or alternatively fly into Nice or Marseille with a wide choice of airlines. The SNCF railway station at Les Arcs, which is 15 minutes from the house, provides fast connections to Paris (TGV 5 hours). If you prefer there is an overnight Motor rail service from Calais/Lille to Nice allowing you to bring your own car and let the train take the strain!
Lorgues facts: Lorgues is a town of just under 10,000 inhabitants, built up around a walled medieval core. Built on a south-facing hillside, ‘a village perché’, it is dominated by an enormous and imposing church – la Collégiale St. Martin – very visible, as you get close!
The town dates from the 10th century, and has an intriguing history in relation to the Crusaders. The church was built in the 15th century. The narrow streets of the old village, enclosed by crumbling walls, and some beautiful towers, are worth exploring; especially as there are fountains and interesting old buildings dotted around. The main street, a rather grand tree lined boulevard, Boulevard Georges Clémenceau, is modelled on the Cours Mirabeau in Aix-en-Provence. Plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants there to relax in
Our olive mill was one of 6 on this street, located to use the water from the open culvert(La Canal) which ran down the street.
Shopping and restaurants: Shopping: There are markets at Lorgues (Tues), Aups (Wed & Sat), & Salernes (Sun) and a very large Sunday Provencal market at Le Muy by the auto route (A8). The two nearest Carrefour hypermarkets are at Draguignan & Trans en Provence. Smaller supermarkets (Intermarche and Casino) are open on Sunday mornings in Lorgues, and most of the surrounding villages. Draguignan, the former capital of the Var, with its impressive county hall, provides a rich variety of individual shops, where you can buy clothes, handmade chocolates, pastries, and gifts. There is also a theatre, cinema, ten pin bowling and visiting funfairs. All the surrounding villages have a number of restaurants, serving primarily French cuisine. From the renowned Michelin-starred truffle restaurant Chez Bruno near Lorgues, to family-run French restaurants all offering 'le menu' or a la carte. For a change there are Chinese restaurants and pizza takeaways

We have just returned from our stay and wish we could go back immediately! The pool and garden is gorgeous, it was lovely and relaxing watching the Swifts swoop around the sky as we sunbathed. The property is a good size for 2 adults with all the equipment you need.
The town is a very short 4 min stroll away and has lots of good restaurants and bars, as well as a boulangerie and other shops and weekly markets. There was good communication and lots of helpful information from Gill prior to arriving and also from the local agent Eric when we arrived. We really enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend or book again in the future.

A very pleasant house with a beautiful garden and great pool. The house is attached to the owners’ place, but when were there, it was just us.
We loved relaxing in the garden and every morning doing laps in the pool.
It’s very convenient that Lorgues centre is only a minutes walk.
There are many nice villages in the area and the Mediterranean is less than an hour drive.
The house was well equipped.

We had a gorgeous week in Gill’s property, a beautifully clean, quaint house in the beautiful town of Lorgues! The kids loved the pool, we loved the peaceful setting and the location was perfect! A little gem of a place! Thanks so much Gill, we hope to return very soon!

A perfect holiday. A beautifully appointed and equipped house in a secluded garden with pool, only a couple of minutes from walk from the village of Lorgues. We hope to be revisiting.

We’ve been here number of times and keep returning. The house is ideally situated, a 5 minute walk from the village but with uninterrupted views.of the beautiful countryside of the Var. The pool is fantastic for both children and adults and the local area has much to see and do.

We had a fantastic stay at Gill and Alan's villa in Lorgue. The highlight was definitely the pool which was beautiful and warm. There is lots of outside space too which is lovely. The weather was incredibly hot (38/39 degrees) so we struggled to stay cool at night but other than that is was a great holiday. Lorgues is a pretty provincial town and it was fabulous to be only a few minutes walk from the villa to the town. There are lots of simple restaurants to try out and beautiful villages to explore especially Tourtour. We also had a great day kayaking down the Gorge Du Verdon. We would definitely like to come back for another holiday! Thanks Gill and Alan.

We (family of 4 - 2 kids 11 and 14) stayed a week at the Moulin in the beginning of July 17. We simple loved the house, especially the huge pool and the lovely garden, - spacious and private and yet only a 2 minute walk from the city centre. Lorgues has several great restaurants and is located in the rosé epi centre... Good super markets and a stunning Tuesday market (and a smaller on Fridays). The busy coast line is only an hour+ drive away - we made it to Saint Tropez (too hot though). We also visited Tourtour and the nearby Thoronet Abbey and best of all the wonderful Gorges du Verdon where we river rafted (Sport Passion). Book your stay now. This is a perfect place and well equipped 😄 Enjoy!

We have just returned from an extended stay at the garden apartment which has been lovingly restored to a very high standard. Alan and Gill have taken great care to preserve and create those all important ambient features that you hope to find in a Provencal villa.
We particularly enjoyed lounging around in the idyllic and well equipped pool environment after days out exploring the local area.
The location also provides a peaceful rural retreat with the convenience of being just a short walk from restaurants, bars and shops in the characterful town centre. You can also base yourself here to discover all of the other leisure activities and pursuits that Provence has to offer e.g. Beach, cycling, canoeing and visiting regional towns, villages and cities etc.
Alan and Gill were fine hosts albeit that they only arrived on our final day. No review would be complete without a special mention of Luce the caretaker who was so helpful and friendly and a delight to talk to.
We were very depressed on the day that we finally left and we would not hesitate to return or recommend this ideal holiday bolt hole to friends.

Our family of 5 enjoyed another 2 week holiday in Lorgues staying in Gill & Alan's wonderful Garden apartment property. We are returning guests and quite simply love the property. The accommodation and kitchen/living area are to a very high standard but the outdoor facilities are superb. Gill & Alan are wonderful hosts and we would highly recommend the property.

This property is superb. As a family we have been coming for a number of years, and now that I have my own family, I was eager to see what it was like with a baby. Well, it couldn't have been better. Gill kindly let us use her grandchildrens cot and we had use of all I could possibly require for our baby boy eg high hair, bibs, beakers and toys! The pool is glorious and the grounds stunning. Gill and Alan have been working hard and the garden is glorious. It's a peaceful tranquil well equipped haven, but a stones throw from the lovely town of Lorgues, where we pottered down for 5 euro breakfasts and enjoyed a few meals out. Safe to say we have already booked for next year! Thank you!

We absolutely love staying here in this apartment in Lorgues. It is very well equipped and is so central, easy walking distance of bars and restaurants, so driving not necessary! Gill and Alan are extremely helpful in pointing you to the right direction for the best beaches, places of interest to visit etc. There is plenty to do and see in the area. The best part is the wonderful pool and gardens. Plenty of sitting areas in full sun or shade for those lazy lunches. The gas BBQ is great too! The apartment is very clean and well maintained. We have enjoyed many a holiday here and will be there next year too.
