This is paradise for families who love to be in the midst of nature, but close to towns and cities. We're half way up a mountain and once you drive through the gates and park along the front of the large granite farmhouse, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the coolness of the sitting room, with its thick stone walls - from the days it used to be the winehouse. Now with windows on three sides, big comfortable sofas, large wooden dining room table, plasma flat screen TV (English, French and Spanish TV channels and Netflix), doors out to the patio...a wonderful place to sit and read and enjoy eating outdoors, at whatever time of day.
Set in the mountains but only 15 minutes from the historic cities of Braga and Guimarães, and less than 10 minutes from the pretty little town of Taipas.
It's in a beautiful location, with views over the mountains and valleys.
Meet our adorable little flock of Cameroon sheep (currently selen but maybe some extra by the time of your visit!), which are considered an exotic breed of sheep and which were almost extinct a few years ago.
The apartment very comfortably accommodates 6 people, with 3 spacious beautifully furnished bedrooms, one with twin beds, one with a King size bed (1.80mx 2m) and French doors giving access to the front garden, and one measuring 1m50x1m95. There are 2 bathrooms, a large living room/kitchen/diining area (very well equipped with all the capusles needed for the machines), with an induction hob, electric oven, a microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine and dishwasher.
The pool is a minute's walk away, at the end of a path with jasmine and scented climbers overhead. It is set on a terrace, with magnificent views, but surrounded by palm trees, kiwis, fig and olive trees. There are sun loungers (towels provided) and a fridge for cold drinks.
Guests are spoilt here and always arrive to bread, wine, cheese and the famous Portuguese 'natas'.
Swings for the children in the garden and a table tennis table, with bats and balls provided.
The farm has many fruit trees and guests can eat whatever fruit is in season. We have chickens and guests are offered eggs.
Behind the house is a forest and it's possible to walk as far as Sameiro, with cafes and great views over Braga.
The farm is situated in between Braga and Guimarães, and is only 5 minutes from the village of Longos and less than 10 minutes from Taipas, with a spa and lots of shops and restaurants.
The area abounds in history, culture and gastronomy!
The owners also live at the farmhouse, but on the first floor. Their entrance and parking area is at the back of the house. They have their own gate to get in and out of the property.
Virginia and José have 3 (almost) grown-up children, 2 friendly dogs (a Golden Retriever and a Labrador), a cat and a large goldfish tank. If you want to be part of a happy busy farm environment, hearing the sounds of naure around you (birds, sheep, hens, crickets, frogs, eagles) look no further. You'll be very well looked after here, but given your own space and privacy.
