About this house rental

Experience life on a tiny farm just outside the city! Guests describe our place as like staying in a petting zoo. All the animals are very friendly and come right up for love, scratches and especially apples! You will wake up to the sounds of chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, goats, rabbits, sheep, horses and cows. Staying in our barn loft is a true farm experience but with all the luxury of home and more. Guests are welcome to participate in the morning and evening feedings and a meet and greet with the animals. Our farm is conveniently situated midway between Niagra Falls and Toronto and is a perfect spot to relax in between exploring all that these regions have to offer. The Bruce trail and many other excellent hiking trails are at your doorstep during your stay. There are several nature sancutaries within walking distance and the Royal Botanical Gardens, the largest botanical garden in Canada and a national historic site, is just 4 km away.
The space
Completely private and detached 350 square foot loft apartment located on the upper level of our barn. The lower level of the barn houses the resident animals which are turned in at night to their stalls. The 6 acre property also has a main residence where the property owners live.
Guest access
For the safety of the animals that live at the farm and for the safety of the guests, we ask that guests do not open any cages, pens or gates besides the ones marked specifically in the check in details. At no time should the guests enter the gated pasture where the animals graze as some of the animals will bite or kick people they are unfamiliar with.

The animals that live at the farm become stressed and upset when other animals such as dogs come onto the property. For this reason we are not able to accept pets.
Other things to note
Please keep in mind when you are deciding to book with us that the apartment is located on the top level of a barn that is surrounded by the animals that live on the farm. You will be fully immersed in farm life and all that it entails upon entering and exiting the gated staircase that leads to the apartment. In rainy weather it can be muddy. Boots are recommended for spending time around the farm.

The apartment is charming, with a sufficiently complete kitchen to cook small meals (two burner hotplate in the drawer, pots & pans, microwave, toaster, toaster oven). The variety of farm animals is astonishing; some of them like the Highlands cattle and special chicken breeds are rare as well. The baby goats while I was there were extraordinarily cute, even if they did try to eat my pants! I commuted by bicycle to McMaster U, which was about 30 minutes almost entirely on bike lane or broad-shouldered roads (via York Blvd. Using York Road does have some narrow sections with traffic). As it turned out, being on a farm meant that when my bike had a mechanical problem, all the tools to fix it were ready to hand! A couple of cautionary notes for city folks: The entrance is directly through the poultry pen, so one should not be shy about encountering geese or turkeys up close and personal. It should perhaps also be made more explicit in the online description for city dwellers that the roosters do start crowing loudly at the first hint of dawn (in August this was about 5:30 AM). There is a white-noise machine available, though I just got up early so can't say how useful it is. However, if you want a full farm experience in a lovely apartment, I can highly recommend this lodging.

If you're looking to an alternative to the usual home away from home rental property, we'll look no further than this little gem! This cozy loft is on the second floor of a fully functioning barn with all the barnyard animals. Immediately when we got to the location we were surrounded by all these adorable little animals. We spent some time visiting the different pens, petting them, and even feeding them some apples. Our reservation and check-in process was super easy. Our host Amber was very communicative and had the loft all ready for us by the time we showed up. Highly recommend you check it out if you're looking for something different and super fun! 🤘👌👍

Listing is accurate - we were on the go so only really there to sleep. Very clean and nice loft. Climate control works well. The noise machine does help remove a bit of the good mornings by the roosters and chores. If you arrive late the geese are a bit protective as you try to pass by. The entrance is through the animals. If you are afraid of farm animals this not the place for you. Lovely stay and nice attentive hosts.

We were met at the gate by very friendly goats, turkeys, pig (Winnie) and chickens before climbing to a clean, comfortable well-equipped loft, exactly as shown in photos. Breakfasts and barbecues were enjoyed on the raised deck overlooking the barnyard. Big thanks to Gord who took us around while he turned-out and fed the animals in the morning. We were amazed at the variety they keep on the farm, many of them rescued animals. Bottle-feeding the baby Highland cow was definitely a high point. After a heavy rainfall, we were pleased to find a path of fresh hay had been laid down for us. Bring boots with you if the weather is wet. Thank you Amber and Gord; we will definitely be returning.

Wow it was great! The drive itself as gear, relaxing and scenic. I enjoyed it a lot the only downfall was the weather, a great excuse to return. Great meeting Amber and Gord. Nicest people.
