Nice room for us and the dog, friendly staff and nice restaurant

This is the second time we have stayed so it cannot be bad! The staff are wonderful , the location is beautiful, the rooms are adequate albeit a little tired , but that’s reflected in the reasonable price. Restaurant food is varied and good. Breakfast is basic but filling. I will return.

Lovely hotel, and great staff

After looking at the many great reviews, we booked in at the Old Stone Trough for a 2 day break. It's in a countryside location and the original building, has been extended over the years to make it a very larger than expected hotel. Our room was located in the annexe. The reception area is very nice and a very friendly receptionist at the check-in desk. We had a deluxe double room which was very comfortable and there's plenty of parking spaces as well. We had a really nice evening meal and the breakfasts were also very good. The restaurant area is really nice as well. Skipton is not too far away from the hotel, which is a great town to visit. Our only complaint was, that there wasn't a phone in the room for contacting reception. A hairdryer is available from reception on request if required, tea, coffee and kettle are in the room, plus an iron and ironing board. So, we had a very relaxing stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice place to stay.

great value, really nice (maybe quirky) restaurant and bar - lovely evening food. possibly lets itself down with breakfast, not the finest ive had but outstanding value

Absolutely stunning hotel. Was upgraded to an Annex room at no extra cost. Had lovely roast dinner in the restaurant. Great buffet style breakfast. Would love to stay there again. Bus stop outside hotel which goes to Skipton via Barnoldswick.

Title says it all,we took my mum booked room 50 and had a,lovely time .festive tasteful decorations big wood fires.fab food well priced and good atmosphere.to be fair no fault of hotel noisy party of ladies in very loud and it did spoil our experience in dining room but that was down to the people being incinsiderate of other diners .alcohol makes some people loud .just uncomfortable hearing private conversaionsas they talked over each other.staff were very proffesional and didnt make a difference as we were all paying customers second night was more relaxing atmosphere we lingered in dining room with a drink infront of log fire as it snowed outside.brealfast was welcome as always .we bring friends as its a gaurantee if good food clean rooms and warm and cosy at an affordable price when £is,tight. Proprioters are savvy enough to know all areas will benifit from guests to area shops attractions etc securing work and growth for area .over price lose your clientele or get repeat business.we would love to try other areas and establishments but fear less than what we know stonetrough offers.

All good as ever quick easy check in

Lovely place, large bar/dining area, private function room available, good food & drink options. Hotel rooms were clean & tidy but a little on the cold side (so do turn up the heating). A fabulous real fire in the bar area that was the best warm welcome after braving the baltic weather outside. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I'd definitely stay again, a good price that included breakfast 👍

Hotel was ideal for a one night stay has will was going to a birthday party,
The rooms was comfortable and clean, probably in need of some TLC . I bit weary in places, but again it was not expensive.
Breakfast was ok, not much choice but again, breakfast was in with the price and we wasn’t expecting to get breakfast. So can not complain
Car parking was excellent.
It was a dog friendly hotel, which is great for dog lovers,

I am absolutely disgusted with this hotel and am putting in a formal complaint with the manager … I am FURIOUS!! With the lack of customer service and pure ‘can’t be bothered’ attitude. The lady on reception, Sharon, refused to give me the name of the manager, explaining to me that “she hasn’t got to do anything”. The shower in the room was pointless and I couldn’t even wash my hair, it would have been easier washing it in the spitting rain. The breakfast food and service was disgusting, I am utterly flabagasted at my whole stay and will be speaking with the hotel manager directly regarding my endless list of issues and will demand a refund - we contemplated packing up and leaving early the loud noise in the room became unbearable!!

Room needed renewal. Breakfast was limited but OK. Evening meal was good with service at a high standard.

First impression was good but we noticed that the wallpaper above the wall light was lifting and the ceiling wallpaper was lifting also. we booked an average room and it was certainly this. Should have upgraded I think.
The bed was comfortable, but tiny old fashioned shower with frayed towels.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and you could certainly tell who the regulars were.
The evening meals were of a very high standard and good choices. Served very quickly and were hot and served on hot plates.
The breakfast food on the other hand very disappointing. .Cold plates and bacon not very warm, sausage not very good quality. Fried eggs sitting in oil and baked beans of poor quality and only just warm.
No jam or marmalade available for toast, until the third morning. Not been delivered apparently.

It said the rooms had all been updated but the bathroom was dirty, very cold room, not enough hangers in wardrobe only got 2 for 2 people. We eventually found thermostat behind wardrobe for the heating.
Some of the breakfast was cold even though they were in heated ovens !

Clean and tidy, excellent restaurant.

Bathroom floor needed better cleaning, TV remote control was filthy, I needed to clean it before use.
bedside shelf was too far away from the bed, which was very strange.

Exceptional service and staff, rooms modernised recently, quirky decor and lovely bar/restaurant for dinner (with someone playing the piano…amazing), then lovely breakfast in the morning included in the room! couldn’t fault for the great price! Be back again! Thanks to the staff they make it 👍

We stayed 2 nights rooms are basic but clean lovely view from our window, the pub and restaurant is gorgeous inside
food was excellent had the lamb hotpot my partner had the roast beef and there was plenty of it, good atmosphere and the staff were very friendly. The breakfast was self serve and eggs were perfect, 20 mins into Skipton and lots of other places to visit, garden area are well maintained plenty of seating and from the bar area there is a balcony with seating as well, would highly reccomend

We had a good price for a double room with B and B. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We had dinner the evening we arrived. Lovely dining room with lounge areas. there was even a guy playing the piano! Food was very good and reasonable prices. The old stone trough is also a motorhome stopover £15 a night for 2 with breakfast (bargain!) so we will be back as we have a campervan. The only reason its 4 and not 5 stars was the room. The bed was fine comfy and clean. Room clean and well equipped. Issue with curtain, being on the ground floor had to have light on with heavy curtain closed. The shower room dated, and worn out. Water was hot and the loo just about worked.

One night stay , cheapest one i could find near nelson

Thought the hotel was going to be remote and more scenic whereas it is at the side of a main road. Which was a shame, but it was very inexpensive and for that we got a clean comfortable room and a breakfast.

Easy to find, well lit with ample parking.
Hotels.com had not informed OST that our booking was a Twin room so we were grateful that the receptionist could accommodate this. Our friend's room was in the main building and we were in the annexe. Their room was renovated with bright, cheery wallpaper and fixtures, our annexe was basic and a little tired in contrast, but a larger space and perfectly comfortable.
We had our evening meal in the restaurant. We were advised of a large group of 16 in advance so knew to anticipate a wait, however there were a number of other unfortunate errors. We received the wrong drink and my friend's food order was wrong twice. First the completely wrong meal, then it was served with the curry sauce which my friend had asked for without sauce. The meal was remade(and arrived with extra chips!) But this did mean that by the time my friend's meal arrived the rest of us had finished and then we were told that we couldn't order desserts as the kitchen had just closed...a shame when we hadn't caused the delay.
Breakfast was good quality, although we were shown to our table, served our hot drinks and left to our own devices, the staff stationed themselves by the bar. After 10 minutes when another group arrived we observed and realised that it was a self-serve buffet. This hadn't been explained so we had been waiting on the waiter's return.
On the whole, comfortable for a good price. No frills but perfectly fine and a good base for exploring Skipton.

My room was in a separate room from the restuarant. It was warm, clean and a good size. The bed was very comfortable and cosy. Brrakfast was relaxing and enjoyable. Good value. Would go again. Booked eve meal in restaurant. The ambience was realxing and homely. Staff looked happy and friendly. We really enjoyed our evening.

In annex due to wedding in main building had shower in bath would prefer a shower cubicle. Otherwise excellent as usual
2.5
The bed was very comfortable. The room had a walk-in shower, was on the ground floor and suitable for people with movement difficulties (as we had asked for). My wife had left behind her pills but the hotel got in touch with us within twenty minutes, so we were able to come back for them. The price was very reasonable, cheaper than other hotels in the area.

This is a basic / low budget hotel, friendly staff and good value. Shower sealant had some black mould, and the TV reception made it barely watchable. They hadn't switched the heating on yet so a wee bit chilly. Everything else very clean and comfortable.
1.5
The bathrooms out dated and need some attention, furniture dated, one of the rooms the water was brown when tried to run a bath so didnt have one, prices for food a little expensive. Breakfast missing things, like hash browns, and choice of eggs.
1.5
We stayed in the comfort room. The room was clean enough, but very, very tired. The mattress had a topper on that did not fit it properly so it had a ridge. The bathroom was in desperate need of replacing, and looked awful.
The worst thing about the stay was the strong stench of cigarettes in the corridor which came in through the gap at the bottom of the door, we had to put a towel there to bridge the gap. This was particularly bad as I am allergic to nicotine. We had to try and sleep with the windows open, and it wasn't a particularly warm night.
The breakfast was not good, didn't really eat any.
The hotel was cheap, so we didn't expect much, I was still disappointed even with our low expectations. We have stayed in far far better, for a similar price this year. We would not stay here again.
1.5
Very dusty and needed a good clean in the room. TV is very small. 22 inch for that room isn’t the best for a deluxe.
Service and food was fantastic.
Rooms need updating though.
2.5
Really pleasant stay at the Old Stone Trough, a hotel which is handily situated on the A59 Colne Road, and which overlooks open country at the rear.
The staff were unfailingly pleasant and obliging, and the dining room is clean and well kept. The food is of excellent quality, and the buffet breakfasts leave you fit to burst if you overindulge, as we did on a couple of mornings during our stay.
Our room was pleasant and of generous proportions, the bed was firm but as other reviewers have said, the accommodation is tired and in need of refurbishment. It was also a disappointment to find that the water pressure was poor and the shower barely adequate. During our stay there was a spell of unseasonably cold weather, and the lack of heating left our windows streaming with condensation in the morning.
Having said all the above, the positives far outweigh any negatives, and we would definitely stay at the Old Stone Trough again in the future. There are plenty of interesting places to visit within easy reach, and we've yet to do some of them. Most importantly of all, the room tariff for four nights' bed and breakfast was very reasonable indeed.
So to the Old Stone Trough its "till we meet again" and not "goodbye".

Fantastic
