The family are wonderful !!! so so sweet and attentive beyond belief. They made our stay the best experience we had at a hotel in years.
The breakfast was out of this world and was perfect fuel for a day in the mountains!!
The hotel bath was lovely to relax in at the end of the day.
The bar area is beautiful - sunken bar is lush.
everything was perfect!

Inn was run by a family who were great hosts. Breakfast was always a delight and the facilities was well kept and clean.
wish there was a restaurant or cafe to buy food from within the location.

We absolutely loved staying here. Super beautiful and clean building and an absolutely amazing breakfast which was carefully and thoughtfully presented. It was different every day and there was always home made bread, miso soup, fruits and juices. The onsen is small but works a dream, and the massage chair was excellent. The beers are tasty, and the on site bar was well stocked. The best thing was the hosts, who went above and beyond to help us in every way. They collected us and dropped us from the bus, stored our bags for the weekend whilst we went to Nozawa Onsen and even made our beds and gave us fresh towels every day. Thank you for making our holiday special.
Perhaps a TV in the lounge with a chromecast would be nice, so we could watch something on Netflix or Youtube if there was a rainy day. But this is just a minor suggestion. I think most rooms have TVs, but we got a more budget room :)

We had the most wonderful stay at Skala Inn and it was all thanks to the amazing hospitality that Osamu and Asako gave us! A special shout out to Asakos mother who helped us when we first arrived. Her English was impeccable and she helped us feel very comfortable (so sorry I forgot her name). Osamu picked us up from the train station and helped us get our rental skies which was extremely helpful, he also helped changeover items with no issues, he was so helpful in everything he did! Asako helped us navigate the train station system and get us to our next spot and printed off everything we needed! She was very helpful and nothing was a burden! The plum wine at the bar was amazing, the breakfast was fantastic! We chose the Japanese style room and it was incredibly comfortable! We absolutely will be back here when we come to Hakuba! The convenience of the bus stop less than a minute walk away was so handy! We can’t recommend this place enough :) definitely book with them!
nothing!

Cozy spot in a good location with the best service that have ever experienced. Osamu and Asako and her mom are the nicest and hardest working hosts you could ask for. Definitely hope we can come back again one day soon.

Wonderful, relaxing ski stay. Easy to communicate with hosts for pickup at Hoppa Bus Station, collection of ski gear and drop back to Hoppo bus station at end of stay. Very clean room/bathroom and comfortable beds - linens changed daily. Good heating throughout the lodge. Very good breakfast with homemade breads and jams plus juice, tea, coffee, cereals, fruits, yoghurt and cooked breakfast every morning. Very comfortable, good size lounge with slow combustion wood heater, bar, hot water for tea and vending machine for beers and softdrinks. The host family are lovely and so friendly with good English, going out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Everything was perfect.

Breakfast was good. The location was convenient only 10 minute walk to a few places to eat in echoland.
The transportation around is not great. If you miss a shuttle it could be an hour until the next one. It is best to use a car.

Went above and beyond for our anniversary! Breakfast was divine and satiated my ever hungry boyfriend! Incredibly convenient to the shuttle bus and the hosts were kind enough to take us to take us to and from the train station.
Nothing significant!

We stayed two nights and our room looked to be very clean and recently updated - it included a private toilet, sink, shower/tub and access to the public baths on the lower floor, too. We were so happy to have one large comfortable bed and not two single beds! Check-in was simple and we opted to have breakfast both mornings and dinner our second night. The food was amazing! The course dinner especially impressed. There is a cozy lounge with a built in bar, sofas, views and a lovely fireplace. Customer service was top notch and the owners kindly spoke with us in English to answer our questions. They drove us to acquire rental gear, waited and drove us to the lifts so we could get in a day of snowboarding and made sure we knew how to get back via the local bus. The bus stop is very close by and an easy 3 minute walk. We walked to the main road to enjoy dinner the first night and out for drinks the second. Lots of restaurants, coffee shops within a 10-20 min walk. Parking was available on site. A relaxing and welcoming place with excellent owners and true hospitality from everyone we met. They went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. They waved us goodbye until we drove out of sight!
I wish the public bath was a bit larger, but it had everything we needed (shampoo, conditioner, body soap, hairdryer). I also could have used a brush and hairdryer in our room (might not be an option due to thin walls and noise concerns) along with access to a full length mirror (maybe in the hallway instead of each room?). Our room happened to be directly connected to another room, but it seemed to be unoccupied, so a surprise visitor wasn't too much of a concern.

We especially loved the superbe lounge with fireplace, and owner couple are extremely friendly and accommodating - drove us ski stations everyday before shuttle bus starts to operate, helped with all our questions and requests of ski rental, restaurants etc
Also highly recommend their dinner - amazing cooking!
Twin room was quite small

It was the best hospitality that we have ever experienced. The family that runs it were extremely nice and helpful. Would absolutely book here again if going back to Hakuba.

My 4-night stay at this family-run hotel was nothing short of exceptional. the facilities were exactly as advertised. My double bedroom was clean and comfortable, and I loved spending afternoons reading in the cozy lounge. They also had a small bar in the lounge that serves a decent range of whiskey and bourbon. I especially loved the hot bath available daily from 16:00-22:00.
The best part of my stay was Osamu-san and Asako-san’s warm hospitality and generosity. They were so kind and helpful throughout my stay, and their kids were so sweet. It was my first time being away from friends and family for my birthday, but their genuine kindness made my birthday so special (the kids even made me a birthday card!). Dinner is also available upon request and I highly recommend it. Asako-san’s cooking is delicious!
The hotel is also located in close proximity to many attractions, restaurants and onsens. I went on a hot air balloon ride (10 mins on foot) and visited a few onsens (2-3 km away). I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and can’t wait to return! :)
Absolutely nothing!

Breakfast was delicious and lots of it! Hosts were happy to shuttle me to various venues as I only had a bicycle with me. They were very thoughtful and kind. I was sorry to leave— and will be back!
Amazing in all ways

Wonderful hosts who were helpful, polite and genuinely wanted us to have a nice stay. They even helped us organise to have some luggage shipped directly to the airport so we didn’t have to take it for the rest of our trip. Loved the little onsen they had for guests to use. Would definitely stay again.
