We have stayed at the Portland for a few years now, among other places in Folkestone. The rooms are a good size and have a good feel to them. The staff are very accommodating but their adjoining (Skuba bar), seemingly takes presidency over all else! Although they host a good selection of bands and DJ’s etc. it does get very busy, Loud and out of control at times!

Hotel was conveniently located for what we wanted, however shower was damaged and rusty in areas with pubes in the shower tray , damp patch on the bedroom wall

Check-in was not in the hotel, but in the adjoining bar. I had to wait while customers of the bar were served drinks, but once I got someone’s attention, the correct member of staff was called and he was very helpful, giving information about parking and even offering to carry my bag up to the third floor. In the room everything was set up to make the stay enjoyable, with tea and coffee making facilities and even a biscuit. Towels and complimentary shampoo and shower gel were laid out on the bed, even with a little chocolate - a very nice touch.
Unfortunately no hotel can guarantee good and considerate behaviour from all their guests. So I was woken up at 1 am by other guests having a falling out and shouting swear words at each other.
I stayed for one night to save the worry about getting to the Channel Tunnel on time and have a good night’s sleep before continuing the journey on the continent. The first was achieved, the second not so much, but not really the fault of the hotel.

Covid, lockdown, difficult times for all. The service I got was good I requested a downstairs room if possible which I was given due to cancellation. I couldn`t fault the hotel or the staff, I stayed for a short night only, due to commitments.

I only stayed for one night but should I ever have to go back to Folkestone I will certainly try and get a room there.The bed was more comfortable than the one I have at home. Had a great sleep.

Satisfactory for a single night stop-over.
Karaoke going on in the bar later was very, very loud but I'm pleased to say it did not filter into the bedrooms despite out being on the ground floor. Really would have like to have had a hot shower but insufficient heat and insufficient water pressure.

We stayed here for a night as was going to an event at the leas cliff hall. Staff where friendly room was massive and for the price I couldn't fault the place at all.

This was NOT mentioned on the website.....good job I could manage the 6 flights of stairs....just!
The room itself was small with a board with pegs instead of a wardrobe, stainless steel double shelf (more suited to a kitchen) to put clothes that you can't hang, bed wasn't too bad but found it strange the the TV's remote control was in it! The 'decor' left a lot to be desired too, magnolia coloured walls with darker magnolia damp patches!
The buffet breakfast was very good .....
