We had a miserable experience. The flat was charming and clean but there was no hot water, the mosquitos were unbearable, and the tram was so loud it sounded like it was in the flat. We tried to get help with the hot water for 4 days and we never got it. We took freezing cold showers the entire time. There are no screens on the windows and we woke up every day with tons of mosquito bite The tram squeks around a corner right outside the window through most ofvthe night. Avoid this property at all costs! I will never stay in a Smartflats property again! s. never

The apartment is in a great location, very central, and it was clean. However, you do pay for what you get. It was a good price, so perhaps we should not have been surprised to find that it was in need of maintenance. There was some dodgy-looking electrics, no basic handsoap, no towel rings for hanging a hand towel near a sink, damaged walls etc.
Overall, it made it feel cheap, and.... edgy.
Worst of all though is their customer service. Nobody answers the provided phone number, and emails are answered in strange ways (like they haven't read your question).

You can open windows. We got a lot of moskito bits. Kids were suffering especially. The place is run down. See photos. Beware of uneven flooring!!! There is a step between corridor and rooms floor. EVERY room! We all almost broke our toes tripping over those steps. In US tenants would sue the landlord for this -- it is a serious violation of safety. Some shelved were ripped off and walls have wholes in them.
Never will stay there again. Give yourself a favor -- pay a little more and stay in a better place.

Gorgeous, spacious perfect apartment. I'd definitely rent again!! Only minor min point would be: the sinks in the bathroom were very backed up & didn’t really drain properly.

For those interested in shopping and "action", the location of this flat is excellent. The flat itself is laid out nicely and has a full bathroom up a set of stairs including a bath tub. The apartment has large windows with balconies and an open feel. The apartment is spacious. The kitchen was very good, with my only complaint being there was no way to make a real cup of coffee. A pour-over or press-pot would have helped. We ate breakfast and made dinner every night for two weeks...I appreciated the kitchen and table.
The downside to the location is that all the action comes with noise. If you are a light sleeper bring ear-plugs. Also, there is no air conditioning and the apartment lacks fans. This creates a tension between keeping the apartment cool, but also quiet and bug-free especially at night. Finally, parking and driving in this area is very difficult, so be warned that if you need a car for certain activities that are outside of Antwerp, you will find it very cumbersome to keep a car with this flat.

Stunning, centrally located 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath flat in Antwerp city center. The 2nd flr (w/ lift) flat is absolutely stunning. Soaring ceilings, wide plank wood floors throughout, massive widows and in the living room, doors which lead to a sweet Juliet balcony. The space is light, bright and airy. Sparse but Quality furnishings throughout. There are 2 queen sized bedrooms and a sofa bed in the living room (with closing doors). This flat can accommodate 6 people comfortably. The main bathroom, with double sinks, separate shower and tub is located upstairs via a narrow circular staircase. A second toilet/sink wc is on the main floor. The flat is within 5-15 minutes walking distance to everywhere... restaurants, cafes, shopping and the central train station. As for amenities, don't expect anything beyond a few pods of coffee/tea bags, soap dispenser in the shower and some dish soap I need the kitchen. This is not your Airbnb or Plum guide exped. It is bare bones... not even bottled water, amenities. Also, this company has (imho) a strange policy of on item per person staying in the flat. When I emailed them asking for 2 extra pillows, I had to go back and forth several times and finally basically beg, for at least 1 extra for my bad back. Seriously? All this effort for an extra pillow? This was a definite first for me. The bath towels (yes one each)) were graying and could use replacing.
That being said, the flat is absolutely stunning and you will be pleasantly surprised!
