La Casa dell'Arte - The House of Art
Live a unique experience with your family or friends in this spacious, elegant and refined apartment. A special, comfortable and relaxing stay awaits you, in large air-conditioned rooms. Immerse yourself in paintings, tapestries, books and music. Leave your car safely in the private parking, reach the historic center in just ten minutes on foot by going down with the Castelletto elevator, a wonderful panoramic point over Genoa.
THE HOUSE
La Casa dell'Arte is located on the raised ground floor of an elegant building from the early 1900s with bright white and lemon yellow colors. Right in front of the building, clearly visible from the windows of the house, stands Castello Bruzzo, while turning your gaze to the south you can see the Lanterna di Genova, a majestic symbol of the city, which stands on the port.
Inside the apartment you will find paintings by famous artists, antique prints and tapestries, classic chandeliers and teardrop lampshades, stuccoed ceilings and unique Genoese grit floors.
In the study there is a large library that offers classic texts, fiction and wonderful illustrated books on the Ligurian Riviera, the hinterland, but above all on Genoa the Superb: its glorious history as a great Maritime Republic, its wonders and secrets, and finally its caruggi, the intricate labyrinth of fascinating alleys that make up the largest ancient historic center in Europe.
You will also find a complete collection of classical music to listen to while sitting comfortably on the sofa. Alternatively, you can connect your phone to the stereo via Bluetooth to listen to your favorite music.
For the little ones and not only, books for children of various ages and board games to spend some time having fun.
Inside the property, right next to the apartment, there is a free private parking for the exclusive use of guests, which can hold up to two cars. The driveway entrance gate is 254 cm wide.
For the most romantic (and for smokers), a small garden reachable from the terrace with a ladder, is ready to offer unique moments of intimacy and relaxation, perhaps toasting with a good wine by candlelight on summer evenings, in a corner of typically Genoese greenery.
The apartment offers fiber optic Wi-Fi connection. Since July 2023, there has been an air conditioning system that cools the entire house with three splits.
There are two bedrooms with double bed, a living room with double sofa bed, a kitchen, a bathroom with large shower and window, a study with sofa, bookcase, stereo, and a desk where you can study or work in smart working.
For the safety of our guests, there is an emergency light in the entrance, a fire extinguisher, methane/carbon monoxide detectors, a smoke detector, a fire blanket and a First Aid kit.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
La Casa dell'Arte is located in the quiet residential neighborhood of Castelletto, the most beautiful neighborhood in Genoa, elegant and safe, located on the hills overlooking the historic center. Here is the panoramic point from which you can admire the entire city that extends from the hills to the sea. It takes its name from an ancient fortress built to defend the city of Genoa. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods and is located on a hill near the Righi hill. Today it is a residential area but also the ideal destination for those who want to entertain themselves with romantic panoramic walks.
The Luigi Montaldo viewpoint, better known as Spianata Castelletto, is one of the most beautiful panoramic points in Genoa. From here you can observe the city that opens from the hills towards the sea and observe from above the intricate system of alleys that makes this city unique in its kind.
Among the roofs, the two symbolic buildings stand out: the Cathedral of San Lorenzo and the Lanterna, the lighthouse that guides and is the point of reference for every citizen.
Near the railing of the viewpoint there is a panel thanks to which you can identify the positions of the most important monuments. Under the tree-lined avenue there are benches on which you can rest and enjoy a spectacular view. To get there you can also take the elevator that connects Castelletto to Piazza del Portello which preserves the Art Nouveau style in which it was built in 1910.
Another more intense and more popular way to get to the esplanade is to go up (or down) the creuze. Unlike the caruggi, the alleys of the city center, the creuze are dirt or brick roads located on the hillsides, which lead to the highest points of the city or to small villages.
In past centuries, this area was home to the residences and villas of the nobility and the bourgeoisie. Today, several villas with ornamental gardens are evidence of this. The Gardens of Villetta di Negro, which were first a botanical garden and later a center for archaeological studies, now house the Museum of Oriental Art.
Villa Pallavicini houses terraces, ponds, nymphaeums and from here you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view. Nearby stand the beautiful Villa De Mari Gruber, Villa Balbi Gropallo and Villa Piaggio.
In the surrounding area there are also several important buildings such as Castello D’Albertis, Castello Mackenzie and the Albergo dei Poveri, today it is a venue for exhibitions, concerts and conferences.
Genoa, with its impervious territory, has always had to face the problem of transporting many people along the climbs that characterize it, towards the top of the hills that embrace the city.
There are several ski lifts in the Castelletto district, such as elevators and funiculars and rack railways, which move among the buildings and streets. In addition to the fundamental utility of these structures, their construction and implementation today leads them to be admired also as valuable architecture: the eastern lift of Castelletto, the lift of Castelletto Ponente, completely renovated and restored, the lift of Montegalletto which is located near Castello d'Albertis, the Zecca - Righi funicular, among the most interesting systems with which you can leave the city center to reach the heights in a few minutes, the funicular of Sant'Anna which is the oldest of the Genoese systems.
The elevated position of the Castelletto district was also chosen by the monks for the construction of monasteries, churches and convents. Worthy of mention are the Church of San Bartolomeo degli Armeni which houses a shroud considered sacred, the Sanctuary of the Madonnetta, the Monastery of San Barnaba and the Church of Sant'Anna.
GETTING AROUND THE AREA
The best way to get around the area is undoubtedly on foot. Taxis are still available (in Piazza Villa or on call) and buses that stop nearby.
Within walking distance, there are several shops and services of various kinds: taxis, buses, ATMs, pharmacies, laundries, tailors, supermarkets, bars, grocery stores, pastry shops, pizzerias, restaurants, etc.
In a few minutes on foot from the house, you can reach Spianata Castelletto, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city center and its port dominated by the Lanterna, the symbol of Genoa. In Spianata Castelletto you can taste the typical freshly baked Genoese focaccia and other local delicacies. Some well-known bars with outdoor tables are ideal for a breakfast, an ice cream, a granita or an aperitif in perfect relaxation.
A stone's throw away is the Castelletto lift (for a fee), which will take you in a few minutes to Piazza Portello, from where you can set off to discover the secrets and wonders of the city centre. A famous poem by Giorgio Caproni was dedicated to the Castelletto lift, and it goes like this: "When I have decided to go there, I will go to heaven with the Castelletto lift, during the night hours, stealing a little time from my rest." Alternatively, you can walk down to the centre, just before the lift, from Salita San Gerolamo, along the typical "creuze", ancient brick alleys sung by Fabrizio De André.
Furthermore, always on foot from home, it is possible to walk to the well-known area of San Nicola, from which, continuing, you can reach another wonderful panoramic point over the city, the Belvedere Don Ga.
Always starting on foot from home, another interesting route to reach the center, in particular the tourist area of the port, is to go down Corso Carbonara from which you access Salita Carbonara, another typical "creuza". Continue on foot until you reach the Carmine neighborhood, a small jewel set in the heart of the historic center. From here, continuing you can quickly reach the Porto Antico area, where you can find the Aquarium, the Bigo, the Museo del Mare and many other tourist attractions.
Genoa the Superb, as Francesco Petrarca defined it, who in 1358 wrote: "You will see a regal city, leaning against an Alpine hill, superb for men and walls, whose appearance alone indicates it as the lady of the sea".
We are waiting for you!
