Valtournenche also has a stop for the ski bus, which runs every 20 minutes (in winter) to take you to the town’s ski lifts. Skiing in the fresh mountain air is a true balm for the soul, heart, muscles, and lungs!

Besides the well-known Fontina DOP from the Aosta Valley, especially enjoyed during fun-filled fondue nights with friends, you can also savor warm soups and typical charcuterie and cheese boards. The Valdostan menu features several traditional dishes like the famous carbonade, not to be confused with Roman carbonara. Aosta Valley’s carbonade is a dish of tender beef stew cooked in wine, typically served with a side of polenta. Other delicious dishes include polenta concia (oven-baked polenta with melted Fontina cheese), veal chops browned in butter, and pappardelle with wild game sauce. To top it all off, try a Valdostan coffee, also known as the grolla dell’amicizia, accompanied by sweet and crispy Aosta “tegole”—almond and hazelnut biscuits inspired by the rooftops of the Aosta Valley.
