About this cottage rental
Almsbury Farmhouse is one of the largest properties on the Sudeley Estate, accommodating 14 guests comfortably across the main farmhouse and the separate self-contained annexe, which is complete with its own kitchen and living area. Surrounded by open, expansive garden and within just a short walk of both Sudeley Castle and the town of Winchcombe, Almsbury's location is idyllic. Bursting with unique period features, hidden staircases, surprise rooms and all the utilities and equipment you will need, Almsbury is the ideal property for larger groups and families looking for a little more space.
Spread over three floors, on the ground floor guests have use of a cosy sitting room, impressively large dining room, kitchen, utility room, children's playroom, downstairs WC and snug/breakfast room. There is access to the first floor via two separate staircases, where three sumptuous king size double bedrooms can be found, two with en-suite bathrooms as well as one family bathroom. Go up a smaller staircase to the second floor, and you will find three twin bedrooms, one is very large with plenty of beanbags - making for a great alternative playroom! There is also another family bathroom on the second floor. The annexe is self-contained, featuring a downstairs kitchen/living area and upstairs double bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Outside, guests have access to a large garden, as well as a raised decking area with outdoor dining furniture.
Lady Ashcombe has taken a special interest in the design and furnishing of the farmhouse and has personally selected works of art, objects and furniture that reflect the history and unique character of the building. Some of the contents come directly from the Castle's collection, others from local antique shops and auction rooms.

We stayed at Almsbury farmhouse with 4 generations celebrating an 80th and a 1st birthday for 3 nights.
The house is characterful, in a lovely location and very well equipped.
A short walk to Winchcombe with an excellent butcher and free access to Sudely Castle, also a short walk away were ideal. Lots to do within the slightly wider area too.
We easily cooked for the whole party in the well equipped kitchen. Plenty of kitchen equipment, 2 dishwashers and a range cooker. Only thing we wished we had bought with us were sharper knives.
We really liked the outside space too. Loads of parking and huge garden. The children particularly liked the 'secret garden' through the archway outside the kitchen. BBQ also in this garden.
The house was ideal for our stay and we would definitely recommend it and stay again ourselves.

We were delighted with the size and layout of the farm house. There was plenty of space for the family to share time together.
The house was clean, tidy and well equipped.

Location was perfect - close to shops & bonus access to the castle, yet quiet & secluded house & garden. Well stocked kitchen, beautiful rooms for sleeping & Socialising. One of the best we’ve stayed in!

The house is in a beautiful area and is ideally positioned close to Winchcombe. The house is rambling and spacious and was ideal for our party of ages 7 to 70 plus.
We did feel that the house could do with a freshen up re the decor. It could have done with a more deep clean prior to our arrival.
The toaster needs replacing as only half of it worked.
Wi-Fi was very slow. A better bbq, ie gas would be good. The garden was lovely but we had to clean the table, seat cushions were dirty and could do with replacing and there was no parasol and two of our party got sunburned.

Excellent stay at this lovely property with 3 generations of family. Great location, beautiful property with everything you might need. Thanks for the recommendation of El Toro Catering who were amazing and came to feed us all on the Friday - a very last minute booking!

We had a lovely stay at Almsbury Farmhouse last weekend. As our family grows it becomes more difficult to find places big enough for us: fortunately our new baby didn't count so we were able to fit all 15 in easily. There was lots of comfy seating and dining space and a well equipped kitchen with very useful wine fridge. The children loved the rambling building, great for hide and seek! The annexe for Granny and Grandad was perfect! There's lots to do on the doorstep, some of us walked to Belas Knap Long Barrow, others went further afield to Stroud where the circus was visiting. The White Hart pub did an excellent lunch for us all. Free entry to Sudeley castle was much appreciated; we didn't have time to do it all so we'd like to come back next year.
Just two suggestions - a couple of bigger cooking pans for large group cooking please and the lovely back garden would be more relaxing if it were securely fenced - the current fencing is attractive but no obstacle to a dog who loves chasing Muntjac deer or pheasants - both seen in the field next door.

The property is in a great location for Winchcombe.
Walking distance (5 mins) to the centre. Would highly recommend the Lion Inn particularly in the village centre.
The outdoor walled patio area is great, think it should be more easily accessed off the house if possible.
Would recommend though for a family get together.

Huge building with lots of character.
Large communal spaces and also smaller ones.
We had no children with us but there was a games room I'm sure would come in handy if you did bring children.
Very close to the castle and lovely walks.

Fantastic house for large family gathering , plenty of space to spread out. House had some interesting features and hidden discoveries. Log fires and well stocked kitchen with use of two dishwashers helped.
Location meant short walk to pubs and village with lots more of the Cotswolds to discover a short drive away
Seeing a deer in the garden an interesting an expected bonus
Only down side being two of the bedrooms had no heating. Radiators not working. However this reported and maintenance completed a site visit

A lovely old farmhouse with an extra annexe. Perfect for a family spanning three generations. Plenty of space. Well equipped kitchen with lovely spacious dining room to seat 14 people. Bolthole website gave information on local private chef(the Season Kitchen) who provided us with a wonderful celebration dinner. A relaxed happy weekend was enjoyed by all.

We hired the house for a family get together for my mothers 80th birthday. We had a fantastic time in the house, the kitchen is well kitted out and spacious. The dining room is superb and spacious enough for all the family. The gardens are beautiful. The only thing that we needed but couldn’t find were wine buckets! We looked everywhere!!! Other than that it was a wonderful weekend and a lovely house which we would recommend.

We had a wonderful weekend at Almsbury Farmhouse. The dining table can seat fourteen and the spacious kitchen was very well equipped. The house is full of character and our grandchildren loved exploring it and hiding in the large cupboards! On arrival, we wanted to turn the heating up but couldn't find the control panel with its screen. We rang the Sudely Estate office and a man explained it was on the first floor at the top of the stairs and he patiently waited while we got it set. Happily the house warmed up very quickly. The annexe is also lovely and well equipped for two people. We found the whole place superb.

We had a lovely stay at the pretty Almsbury Farmhouse, it was an old farmhouse so the slanty floors, steps and low doorways were to be expected. The beds were very comfortable, kitchen well equipped and located in a quiet location. The opportunity to visit Sudeley Castle for free was fantastic and we had a brilliant day out there. The only negative comment would be that there was no blind on the window in the bedroom in the eaves and I feel that for a party of 12 that more shower enclosures would be useful. Two 'overhead showers' are actually hand held shower attachments which can only be used sitting in the bath. There were 12 of us and there was a lot of space for us all to spread out but to also be together. Lots of parking available and a good location to use as a base whilst visiting the Cotswolds.

What a lovely house and perfectly located . Enjoyed a bbq on the Friday in the beautiful garden and hosted all 13 of us comfortably.

Beautiful house in a beautiful location. However the place could do with a little TLC.
Considering the cost of the property a small amount of logs were provided with no information as to where we could get any more so we had to result in using the electric heaters that were provided which was a real shame. This was the only negative we found about the place.
Very well equipped kitchen.
Huge amount of space and quirky rooms where you could be involved with the rest of the group or lose yourself in one of the quieter rooms

It is a lovely house in a brilliant location . It was our second stay .By way of feedback it would be good to have more than 2 tea towels. The radiators need bleeding ,several didn’t work at all,and a couple of the bedrooms were pretty chilly.A few more light bulbs in the dining room would be good .thanks nichola

This is our second visit to the farmhouse and we enjoyed it as much as the first time. The house is fabulous for family get togethers, well equipped, clean and spacious. The gardens are beautiful and the property is in a great location. Bolthole Retreats are a pleasure to deal.

Property very spacious and quirky, well equipped, and ideally situated. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the stay.
The only criticism is that there is no TV in the annex!

A very comfortable and large rambling farmhouse with many rooms and all to a homely country standard. We immediately felt at home and were all able to settle in very quickly. All mod cons with every thing you could think of provided. Wonderfully situated in quiet seclusion yet only a five minute walk from the centre of the lovely old town of Winchcombe. Also to the beautiful grounds of Sudeley Castle to which we were all given complimentary entrance admission. Our group of twelve covered three generations with ages from 18 to 83, all of whom without exception loved it. We all look forward to a return visit for our next special family occasion.

Fantastic house with plenty of room for our family gathering. Everyone was happy with their bedrooms and the Annex was warm and cosy. Lots of walks from the doorstep and being able to visit Sudeley Castle and grounds for free as many times as you wanted was a real bonus.

Perfect house for large family groups. Great space and fun property - so many different areas to sit and very good size rooms. Stunning garden and amazing large dinning room table. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return. This worked perfectly for a bridal party with the bride and groom staying in the annex.

Excellent venue for my children, grandchildren and friends to celebrate my 70th birthday. Well equipped in fantastic location! Only concern was the unstable condition of a number of stone slabs which form patio area. This is a potential danger especially to small children or the elderly as nd needs addressing!

We used this property for a 5 night family reunion for 10 adults and a child. We selected the property due to it’s proximity to a variety of interesting places to visit/activities and this suited all age groups within the party. The outside space was great and we took full advantage of it when the weather was good. 1 possible addition would be some outdoor comfortable furniture and outdoor games. One slight issue was the patio area had loose pavers which tilted when you walked over them and this was dangerous; the side gate post was also rotten and this could fall on someone. The house was extremely well appointed with the bonus of 2 dishwashers. We could not find any instructions for the washing machine and when it had finished, we struggled to open it! Complimentary welcome packages, toiletries and access to the castle were great- the castle is well worth a visit. Some good pubs in the village and a good fish and chip shop. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We have just returned from our daughters wedding where we booked the farmhouse for a variety of family members to use.
It was an outstanding place to stay, everything and more was provided at a very high standard, with lots of additional touches. Large comfy beds, soft towels and great location. The garden was perfect, secluded, picturesque with a great BBQ and plenty of room for garden games. We felt like we were in a French Chateau. It made the whole wedding experience a real treat.
Cannot recommended highly enough. Fabulous customer service, thank you so much we feel privileged to have stayed at Almsbury Farmhouse.

The property is well located being yards from the town centre in one direction and Sudeley Castle in the other. Overall the property was in good condition, but there were some minor areas that needed a bit of TLC. Beds were comfortable, and most equipment worked (Vent Axia in Bedroom 6 ensuite did not). Kitchen was very well equipped with the exception of needing a good size wooden chopping/ carving board. Rooms were clean, but some of the carpets looked stained and could have used a shampoo etc. The hot water was boiling hot (we had children staying) and, despite sending someone around to adjust the temperature, it remained so. There was no umbrella/parasol for the outside table, but a quick call to the estate resulted in the matter being promptly dealt with, and two were delivered and set-up for us shortly afterwards. Wi-fi is patchy around the house, being non existent in the main lounge. Being such a rural area there's probably nothing that can be done about the speed of the Wi-Fi, but I think that you can buy some devices that extend the spread of the signal which would improve matters. Overall, despite the few aforementioned niggles, this is a nice property, and we would be happy to return to it.

Perfect location for our big group
I brought a group of plein air painters from the US to Winchcombe to paint at Sudeley Castle and in the area. We rented both 14 Vineyard street and Almsbury Farmhouse. The Farmhouse was the perfect base of operations for our group of 16. The sizable and well appointed kitchen and dining spaces were perfect for our group. We could easily flow around the kitchen, serve ourselves and find a seat without being on top of each other. Two dishwashers made short work of cleanup too. The kitchen also has plenty of dishes, cups, mugs and cutlery. Beautiful painting locations were just steps outside our door.
The bedrooms were comfortable. We stayed during a particularly hot summer. The upstairs room got very hot during the day, but open windows and fans (the farmhouse has some) cooled things down after sunset.
Our group took full advantage of the free entry to Sudeley Castle. Painting the landscape for three days. April and castle staff and Steven (head gardener) were delightful, informative and friendly.

This property provided everything our family of eleven needed to have a comfortable experience.
The Almsbury Famhouse provided more of everything we required to have a great experience for our family vacation. The property is located so that we were able to visit all the towns that we had on our schedule without long drives. The facility has everything one needs for comfort; our family of eleven was delighted with all the accoutrements in place. I highly recommend the Almsbury Farmhouse and give highest marks for this facility! We all agree to return in the future which is a first for our group!

Our family get together at Almsbury Farmhouse
Our family absolutely loved our stay at Almsbury. It was all the room we could have possibly asked for with 11 adults. We loved the beautiful kitchen which was so completely equipped with everything you would need, and all the nice little jams, cookies, coffee and hot chocolate. I loved the electric pot for heating water for tea. It was nice having the washer/dryer so we could go home with clean clothes. My daughters and I loved the big, beautiful roses and all of the big fat birds, especially the crows. We enjoyed the nice patio and being able to cook out. We really enjoyed our tour of Sudley Castle and the quaint little town of Winchcombe. Our family thinks we might like to do this again sometime. Hands down, we give the farmhouse five stars.

Wonderful stay in the farmhouse
Hi, we had a wonderful stay at the farmhouse and really it really made our family vacation in the cotswalds extremely special. We would certainly stay there again and recommend this property to friends in the future, especially if you have a large group to accommodate.
The only thing I could say slightly negative, was the outside umbrella for the table was busted and it made it a little more challenging to get shade, with the beautiful weather we had in the garden. Other than that we thought the property was beautiful and fantastically positioned in the village.
Thank you.

Superb place
It’s a really wonderful spot, in the shadows of the castle, a couple of minutes from the village and in beautiful countryside. It’s perfect for a family or friends reunion - lovely communal spaces (the big garden with a lovely outdoor dining area) and spacious bedrooms and annexe. Would highly recommend

Almsbury Farmhouse Winchcombe for a memorable Cotswold holiday
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Almsbury Farmhouse in Winchcombe to celebrate a milestone birthday
The property was just as described, warm and well fitted out. It was great for our large family group, with comfortable and spacious social spaces, and ample parking. The house is full of character, so be prepared for some low doorways, narrow stairways and uneven floors, especially if you have elderly guests in your party.
The gardens expansive and attractive with an open area having river access and a separate, large, enclosed area safe for children and dogs.
Winchcombe is a great Cotswold base as it is not over-crowded as are some of other Cotswold villages. The town is on the doorstep for a coffee shop, pub, or a browse round the shops. Plenty of choice for a good pub meal. Almsbury Farmhouse is a place where you can park up for the whole stay as there was so much to do in the immediate area, with many short and long walks from the doorstep. But there’s also option of easy driving access to many other Cotswolds towns.
The free pass for all the guests to Sudeley Castle is great bonus especially if for young children who want to use the adventure playground.
Bolthole Retreat’s booking process was straightforward, with all the information needed provided promptly and clearly.
I would definitely recommend Almsbury Farmhouse and Bolthole Retreats for Cotswold holidays.

Overall it was a lovely property but some of the beds are very poor and needs a new mattress (springs protruding through the mattress).
