nearly perfect

new and spacious and spotless. the staff were well trained friendly and eager to help. the beds were luxurious. the new BMW curtesy cars were immaculate and a classy touch

the free continental pastries were cheap commercial and tasteless. the nice of a hotel should feature local made foods.

Late October off season in Nantucket

*During our 3 night visit, the friendliness of every staff member we encountered in the "main lobby" was truly exceptional. Attention to the little details for training housekeeping staff is evident, too. When walking through our hallway, a staff member turned off the vacuum that was being used until we were out of the area. *Since we chose to not take a car or rent one, this property is within a reasonable walking distance to the town. *L'Occitane toiletries were much appreciated! *Gas fireplace was wonderful for our chilly evenings.

*Our room refrigerator inside a cabinet tilted forward, and every time we opened the door, something would roll out onto the floor. Also, having a large carpet stain was surprising in light of being such a lovely suite otherwise. Both observations easily fixable:-) My cousins' only negative was having a loose shower door handle in their suite..again, easily correctable. *Our only disappointment was the daily 4:00 "wine and cheese" social that lasted one hour in the library. The only offering set out was one half of a bottle of red port wine--yes, it is technically a fortified wine (often served after dinner) but not one you see served exclusively at this type of afternoon event--along with one small tray of cheese, crackers, and one handful of grapes. Consequently, I asked a restaurant/bar staff member if anyone planned to serve a red or white wine, and he said he would ask his manager. The answer was no, and that I could buy a glass of wine at the bar! Not surprisingly, I did not see anyone participate in this offering.

Exceptional

My family and I had the Sunday brunch and it was the best brunch we ever had! A sample of the menu, Lobster Benedict, oysters, shrimp, Chicken Florentine, were some of the highlights.

Zen surrounding and close to town

Friendly staff. Good shuttle service, except one time the front desk told me to catch the shuttle to the sister hotel at the visitor center in town, but the shuttle driver informed me he picks up from White Elephant as well.

The public lounge/library is too small. During our 4-night stay, there was 1 woman who occupied the table every day to do her work and make phone calls. It was disruptive to other guests who wish to use the lounge. That was a major disappointment.

Best stay ever on.Nantucket.

The grounds are beautiful and beautifully maintained. The room (standard, not harbor view) was large enough with a little deck and very comfortable king bed. There is a free shuttle service around town.

The bathroom did not have a bathroom vent, which made it damp in the room. Also, I was given a gift certificate for the spa, but the spa was closed the three days we were there.

A perfect location and out-of-this-world service

The White Elephant Residences is located walking distance to almost every great restaurant in Nantucket and is situated in the heart of the city. The service is impeccable and everyone goes above and beyond to make your stay special - especially the manager Alice, who is always thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable of the area. This includes Brandon Grill - great Sunday brunch!

I would stay away from the Pre-Concierge service. I wrote 6 emails and they never really responded or helped with anything. I then contacted the hotel directly to arrange all of our activities and dinner reservations - a must do on Nantucket if you are going during high season!!! - and they did a great job of getting everything organized! If you want to use the spa, you need to book at least 4-6 weeks in advance during high season. They could definitely use larger facilities.
