The location was very convenient. It was a very unique hotel. The earplugs were a nice amenity because it was very noisy outside. The staff was very accommodating.
The skylight in the bathroom made it very bright. The noise from outside would be a deal breaker without the earplugs.

convenient location and comparatively reasonable price; helpful staff. Next time I should try larger room with terrace
Basic room with one small window felt a bit clammy; lots of noise from train traffic.

We love staying here! The hotel does not have a restaurant or bar but as it is situated right in the centre and surrounded by restaurants and cafes that is not a problem. It is comfortable and clean and the location is perfect. We always have a room with a balcony overlooking the park as we love to sit out and watch the world go by
There was nothing we didn’t like

Great location, hotel had amazing character. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
No refrigerator or coffee/tea making facilities in room.

Lovely charm
Rugs in halls and stairs needed vacuuming. Balcony needed sweeping. Lots needed cleaning and painting and upgrading. In general it was not as clean as I would have expected for the price.
Receptionist was ADORABLE!

The location was brilliant - downtown Winter Park - the valet took care of the car and we happily walked everywhere.
I understand some people were unhappy with the hotel but here's what. If you checked into this hotel in Paris or Prague you would be oh so happy. It isn't a Hilton or a Mariott. If that is what you want or expect then do NOT book this hotel. This is a 100+ old hotel, wood everything, creaky floorboards, bahamas shutters some of which don't shut properly - a cramped bathroom (one person at a time!).
But here's what - bahamas shutters! wood everything!!! so much character it's crazy. A fabulous balcony packed with wicker and baskets with plants cascading - where you can chat to your neighbors.
And every luxury I appreciate at the price: high speed internet access, a tv with a remote, a fan over the bed with a remote, a super quiet mini split with a remote so as much cool or as warm as you like with a ton of customization, beautiful white cotton linens, a tray of Really Good wines ... 2 unusual ones. I loved everything about the hotel.
The valet was super helpful and welcoming.
The manager couldn't have been grumpier. I didn't feel welcomed. On the contrary - he was rude and cursory. I
We asked for the wi-fi password and he threw down a sheet of paper. That password didn't work neither did the one in the hotel book in our room so we went down for help. He got annoyed and scribbled the (apparently new) password on a piece of paper. We couldn't get it to work no matter how we typed it. So we went back and he started shouting at us basically calling us stupid for getting it wrong. We shouted back that his writing was open to interpretation that it wasn't clear whether some of his letters were upper or lower case. He got so angry he threatened to throw us out of the hotel. We asked about his position and he shouted that he was the manager and the CEO and the chair of the Board. I have only had this experience once before - at a hotel in the UK. In the UK customer service isn't a thing so his behaviour made me wonder about his nationality. We were only there a night and ghosted the front desk for the rest of our stay.

It was like a trip back in time representing another era of American travel in old Florida. The foyer an ornate decor with tiffany lamps, dark wood, carpets…not for travelers who want modern luxury, but for those who want a taste of the past in historic Winter Park. The hotel has been there for generations. The rooms still have creaky floors but have been updated enough to provide for basic needs: new AC, hot water and good pressure in shower, comfortable bed.
Coffee only…no more continental breakfast served.

Location in Winter Park was excellent
The promise of a free continental breakfast did not happen, but happily the hotel compensated us so all was well

Prime location! Staff very nice and accommodating!
The hotel is charming but the rooms are really outdated! Very small and old bathroom!

We booked a queen room with balcony and park view. The hotel is very quaint, old and looks like a genteel boutique hotel. It is not a modern hotel with all the modern amenities, and it very clearly states that in it's description online. It is very pretty from outside, with lots of greenery, in a walking location near to the trendy shops and restaurants. The staff were polite and friendly, particularly as we were arriving at 10:30 pm and I"m sure they were tired. The elevator was very European sized, but the stairs were just nearby, with one level to walk up, so that was perfectly fine. The sheets were lovely, towels fluffy and bottled water provided at check in. The bed was comfortable. The room was immaculately clean. The valet was very helpful to help us with our luggage, for a $15 valet service fee plus tip. Although we parked our car outside the hotel and it did not appear to move until we left the hotel. Not sure why we paid for valet service!
It was extremely difficult to locate at night. The sign is very small, not very well lit and the lighting outside the hotel just not conducive to finding it all. The rooms are all above shops and restaurants, so the door did look like a door to a shop. It was frustrating to be arriving after dark, tired and driving around and around the block looking for it. The queen room with a park view is not a PRIVATE balcony. It is more like a wraparound porch for the building. So when sitting on our "balcony" it is more like sharing a wraparound balcony with other guests. I would not have paid extra, had I known this. The door to the balcony has old-fashioned wooden shutters, no blind. So it was possible to see into other rooms while on the balcony. Didn't like that. Wish I had known as privacy isn't really up for debate, (even for quaint boutique hotels). Really, the thing I did not like the most was the exceptionally thin walls. We could hear everything and I do mean EVERYTHING going on in the room next door at 1 am, when they woke us up, and we were forced to stay awake for an hour. It was embarrassing to say the least. Who is there to complain to? I had asked for a quiet room when I reserved the room, and when we checked in, I asked if it was quiet room as I'd read that the train made quite a lot of noise (according to the reviews). The receptionist said that the train didn't make any noise. Also, incorrect! Although the horn didn't sound, the train running every hour was enough to wake us up (again) at 6 am, and keep us awake. It was not a restful night's sleep at all. When we checked in, we were told that there was a water pipe burst and the water would be going off at 9 am for repairs the next morning. So we had set an alarm to make sure we were up and showered by 8:30 a.m. Not their fault, but just not a relaxing stay. The water did go away at around 9:15 am.

Love the ambiance and decor, especially love the balcony. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is historic, but there are things that are unnecessarily old, such as the cheap towel racks in the bathroom, rusting out. Cheap, thin toilet paper.
Simple but delicious complimentary crossaint breakfast has been replaced with very weak, tasteless coffee.

full of character. excellent location great staff
creaky floorboards but it is part of the ambience so acceptable

Vintage Historic property. I think it is individually and locally owned. Half a block from the train station, across from the classic urban park that gives WinterPark its name. A couple of blocks from the campus of Rollins College. Right in the middle of an upscale urban neighborhood and shopping district. Choice of several good restaurants with a five to ten minute walk.
Just a warning to folks who are looking for a conventional hotel. You are likely to be disappointed. But if you are looking to step back into a time warp and visit a hotel that is authentically vintage post WWI-pre WWII, complete with a functioning elevator of that vintage, you will amazed at this place!

old world charm right on Main Street
it’s old school so if that bothers you ,,,

The staff was friendly and helpful
Where to start? Tiny, archaic room, bathroom that was an indoor outhouse, view was horrible, no plugs, no space to set anything down, no room safe, hotel handed out a sheet that said "free croissants for breakfast" and then told me "we discontinued that months ago," strange looking stuff on bathroom floor, etc. For a little more I could have stayed in true luxury at the Alfond - I'll never make that mistake again!

The people are always friendly, great location, comfortable beds, nice spacious rooms.
I was sad to learn there was no longer fresh basked croissants for breakfast or room service coffee.
