Rockaway Beach is great and we will be back... but we will not stay at Sand Castle Villa again.

The location was absolutely perfect... right on the beach with amazing views of the ocean. The two townhouses we rented had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate our large group. We all agreed that the queen bedrooms were comfortable. The bunk beds were fine, too, but just not what people are used to sleeping on (we were grateful for the sleeping space, though). Check-in was super easy.

Our group of 16 people all agreed that the cleanliness of the units was extremely neglectful. We felt like we had to clean at the start of our stay since it didn't appear clean and ready for new occupants. The smell in one garage and cabinet under the kitchen sink was absolutely nauseating, as if some sort of sea creature rotted in there. It is baffling to me that the cleaning crew left that for us to tolerate and/or deal with. We were able to combat the kitchen sink cabinet's smell by purchasing and then cleaning with Lysol bleach, but the garage had no hope. Additionally, there were so many things in the units that were broken or in some state of disrepair (water dispenser and ice maker in refrigerator broken, microwave broken, kitchen cabinet door fell off, closet doors off their tracks, screen door ripped, vertical blind slats missing in lots of windows, carpeting ripped up in one bedroom with dangerous nails poking through (we hammered them down with a rock after the first injury), loose boards on patio, blood stain on comforter in one room, closet light flickering, etc.). For the amount of money we paid, the lack of cleanliness and state of disrepair was absolutely unacceptable. We would never return to that rental home again in our future travels.
