About Barbados
Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands and unlike most of its volcanic neighbours it is a coral island producing some of the finest white beaches and crystal clear waters in the world. It is a small island of 166 sq miles and is only 21 miles long and 14 miles wide. Although it is not mountainous it rises to nearly 1.000 ft above sea level. On the West of the island the scenery is characterised by rolling hills and beautiful beaches with calm turquoise sea. The spectacularly stunning East Coast with its wild beaches and Atlantic breakers provides a real contrast. Because of its geology much of the island is criss-crossed by underground rivers and caves. Harrison's Cave is a major attraction open to the public and well worth a visit. Collapsed caves or gullies provide the natural habitat for local wild life including the green monkey.
Barbados was first settled by the British in 1627 and Holetown is the site of the first settlement. Until the island gained independence in 1966 Barbados was a British colony. The official language is English, cars drive on the left hand side of the road and the island has the third oldest Parliament in the world. Barbadians (or Bajans as they are known) are proud of their island, its political stability and the high standard of education. They are also great sports lovers with a passion for cricket, horse racing, sailing, surfing and motor sports. Mount Gay Rum (the rum that invented rum) is only one of a number of world class rum producers in the island and the local beer, Banks, helps to quench the thirst on a warm afternoon at the beach.
As to be expected on an island fish is the mainstay of the local cuisine. Flying fish is a local delicacy, but game fish like Mahi Mahi (locally referred to as dolphin), Marlin, Sword Fish and Tuna are on the menus of most restaurants, as is lobster. It is worth trying the local fish cakes made from salted cod and, for those who are happy with a challenge, pudding and souse (black pudding and pickled pork). There are a large number of excellent restaurants selling a range of international foods and local produce.
Street food and van food is also plentiful, including fish, chicken and pork, peas and rice and the island's favourite, macaroni pie. There are fish fries at many of the local fish markets where freshly caught fish is served grilled or fried. The most famous of these are at Oistins on the south coast and Moontown north of Speighstown.
Another local favourite is roti - an Indian dish imported from our neighbouring island, Trinidad. These are West Indian curries served in a roti wrap – an excellent takeaway food.

Met by the owners on arrival and shown round the apartment. They also offered information on the complex & it’s surrounding areas. A useful welcome pack with essential supplies plus extras was a nice touch. Kim & Sandy were very helpful during our shortened stay due to the Coronavirus situation back home . Thank you very much

lovely property walking distance to everything you need
We spent a week and wanted to stay longer. Kitchen had more things than I have seen in a rental, we really appreciated the coffee and filters, plus the pitcher for water in the fridge. This is an end unit so only neighbors on one side. Loved watching the birds play and got to see a parrot and a monkey. Small ocean view was lovely!
My husband can't handle the heat so the AC was perfect. Only real complaint is that the bed was too hard for us. It needs a topper or something, especially with the hump in the middle where the 2 mattresses join. We awoke with back pain every morning.
We asked others about the short cut on the next road, which goes to grocery store and beach, it was great. saves time definitely. Tried some food out of the back of a van along the way, which was good. Plus you are directly supporting a local family. We felt safe here overall. Definitely a complex that caters to older people. As a courtesy, please keep your voice down at the pool or limit the number of political discussions...they get old real quick. We had to bring a speaker and music down to quietly drown them out.
We would visit as again for sure.

A wonderful christmas
We have just returned from a months stay over Christmas and new year in Kim and Sandy’s apartment (330 goldenview). The roomy apartment was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our long stay. When we arrived Kim and Sandy were there to welcome us and had left a lovely welcome pack including home made banana muffins. Kim and Sandy had put up a Christmas tree and even visited us with lovely Christmas cakes and rum.
A very relaxing stay in a great location with everything you need within easy walking distance. We would definitely love to return soon.

We had two wonderful weeks at golden view . It’s a short walk to the beaches , restaurants and shops in Holetown . The property was very well equipped and clean all you could need even beach towels. The pool area and gardens were well maintained and never over crowded. Would recommend to family and friends.

Good value & great location
We had a great stay in 330 and Kim and Sandy were thoughtful hosts, bringing water supplies when there was a threatened 24-hour water outage (it didn't happen). Golden View is a large '60s block in extensive and well-kept grounds with a large pool. 330 has everything you need for a self-catering holiday but GV is also well-placed for local restaurants in Sunset Crest and Holetown - really just one very small town. Kitchen and bathroom are dated and we had a small problem with the toilet refilling but this was solved with a bit of fiddling. Large balcony with sitting and eating furniture but beware birds coming in for food. One or two managed to get into the apartment. We found wi-fi good (we caught up with The Archers!) and Kim and Sandy have excellent taste in box-sets, which we enjoyed most evenings. Yes, GV is popular with the over-60s and you can see why: it's comfortable, very safe (24-hour security), near to everything including a reputedly excellent medical centre and a large supermarket. Food and eating out are expensive as everything is imported from the US - there are some Waitrose brands too. We bought fruit and veg from the ladies at the stall opposite the medical centre - better selection and prices here than at the Massy supermarket in Warrens (the Holetown one hadn't reopened when we were there in November). Cemetery backing on to GV is no problem - you can't see if from the apartments and grounds and the funerals we did see were large and colourful with excellent singing. Visits to Hunte's Gardens and St. Nicholas Abbey recommended. A hire car helps as buses into the centre are fewer than along the coast. Altogether a very nice experience, if hot and steamy!

Great location
The apartment was comfortable, it was very quiet and close to the beach and town of Hometown and there were easy walks to some nice restaurants.
Its nice to have a welcome pack when arriving as the local supermarket was being refurbished so the essentials were very welcome.
The pool was large and almost always exclusively ours to use.

great complex in ideal position
The position in Holetown was brilliant and the outside areas were good, spacious and had a lovely pool. The apartment was adequate . The complex should be advertised as attractive for long stay retirees as the residents return year after year and are mature to say the least ! it is like a club for older people ( ironically situated next to the graveyard! ) If you are of this age group then Golden View is IDEAL

An excellent apartment, very well maintained and obviously recently refurbished
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 330 Golden View. We were met by the sister of the apartment owner, who had waited very patiently for an hour after we were delayed at the airport. She showed us the apartment which was bright and cheerful, and had obviously been updated and refurbished recently. The owner had left a generous welcome pack of basics which was a very nice touch after a long journey.
Our only problem was, that the 2 weeks went too quickly! We may have to book a month the next time!!

Amazing vacation and wonderful rental property!
My husband and I stayed at Kim and Sandy's condo from December 26-January 2 and had an unforgettable experience. The condo is very safe, clean, and in a perfect location (walking distance to plenty of restaurants, markets, beach, and the bus stop). Holetown is a great place to stay. The pool at the condo was great and there were always lounge chairs available. We loved sitting out on our private balcony either morning, noon or night. The kitchen has a great supply of cooking utensils and we can't thank Kim and Sandy enough for the goodies they left for us to get started. I highly recommend staying here and look forward to returning ourselves in the future!

Fantastic, well equipped apartment
This is a great apartment, very well equipped and an unexpected welcome pack which saved a journey to the supermarket that evening. The bed is very comfortable with plenty of towels. The swimming pool is great as is the on site Chinese. It's a short walk to plenty of restaurants and bars and beach.
The owners are lovely and could not do enough for us.
Highly recommend this.

An excellent well equipped apartment near the beach and shops
We stayed there for two great weeks in early October 2016 in which the only complaint was that the weather was too hot (30-34C) for us oldies. This was compensated by a superb 50 m outdoor pool with an excellent poolside chinese restaurant which served breakfast, lunch and dinner if you didn't want to self-cater. The apartment had everything you would need and was very comfortable. Being on the third floor served by a lift and overlooking a delightful garden, it was cooled by the seabreeze and free from mozzies. The air-conditioned bedroom ensured a good nights sleep. Although the local buses are cheap, frequent and get you anywhere, next time we will hire a car just to provide some mobile air conditioning. The owners Kim and Sandy were there to greet us and just about covered the waterfront with detailed instructions in the apartment on shopping, restaurants, taxis, buses etc. It was a real plus to have such nice and considerate hosts which make you feel at home. All in all, a real find which was much appreciated. Tony and Cilla, Chichester
