Offering stunningly beautiful walks along cliff-top coastal paths within a few hundred metres of the front door of the villa, this is the perfect place to relax or to explore beautiful coastline. The village and beach of La Herradura, where there are many good quality restaurants and bars open all year round dotted along the seafront and beach, can be reached via a 15-20 minute walk downhill via a shortcut avoiding most of the beach road. The route offers superb views of the coastline on the way. Don't forget your camera! The walk back is steep of course but, if required, taxis are readily available in the village and are inexpensive. A delightful marina offering a range of water-based activities and restaurants is within a 5 minute drive of the villa on the opposite side of the headland from the village.

The entrance to the first floor of the villa is via a gate with personal intercom and down a few steps. There is a wide parking area adjacent to the front gate. The entrance hall leads to the spacious lounge/dining room, large fully fitted kitchen, guest toilet, and stairs to the ground floor. The lounge area seats 8 with 2 x 3-seater sofas and a 2-seater sofa. A wood burning open fire provides warmth for guests in winter and air conditioning cools summer guests. A hi-fi is provided (please bring your favourite CDs) as is a DVD player and TV (pay-as-you-go wifi access required). Patio doors lead from the lounge to the terrace, via an alcove which houses a large writing desk, ideal for letter writing or laptop users (ADSL pay-as-you-go wi-fi connection available). There are beautiful sea views from the south facing windows in the dining area. Further patio doors lead from the dining area to the south and west facing spacious upper terrace, overlooking the pool and the sea. In the large fully fitted kitchen, extensive oak units conceal a fridge, separate freezer, washing machine and dish washer. Electric oven and hob, coffee machine and toaster are provided, along with necessary utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware. The triple aspect windows face south, west and north. A door leads directly from the kitchen to the lounge/dining area.

Downstairs, a hallway leads to the lower terrace, 3 bedrooms, and separate bathroom. The principal bedroom, with bathroom en suite, fitted wardrobes, double bed, chest of drawers, bedside tables, ceiling fan and air conditioning, faces South, with views to the sea. The second bedroom, also south facing, with bathroom en suite, fitted wardrobe, double bed, bedside tables, ceiling fan and air conditioning, has the added advantage of its own patio doors to the lower terrace and pool. Ideal for early morning swimmers! The third bedroom faces east, has fitted wardrobes, 2 single beds, chest of drawers, bedside table, ceiling fan and air conditioning, with use of the separate bathroom. All three full-sized bathrooms have a bath with shower and curtain, a hand basin, WC and bidet. A table and chairs for six, are provided on the sunny south and west facing upper terrace. A further dining table and chairs for six, comfortable three-seat sofa and two easy chairs are on the south and west facing lower terrace - an ideal spot for reading, or for relaxing in the shade. Both terraces overlook the pool, and have sea views. NEW FOR 2018: A new south facing "sun deck" with quality outdoor furniture expands the terrace space and offers day long sunbathing opportunities. The adjacent irregular shaped private pool (approx. 6.5 by 3.5 metres and unheated) has no deep end and is thus ideal for non-swimmers, being around 1 metre 25 cms deep. It is reached down a few steps via the garden from the lower terrace. Around the pool is a large paved sunbathing area, with six sun beds and a sun shade, and an unusual and attractive outside shower.

The lovely garden area provides a shady setting close to the pool for rest and relaxation. A small portable barbecue set is also provided. The palm trees, flowering hibiscus shrubs and exotic bird of paradise plants make it an especially colourful part of the villa. A path leads right around the house. The palm trees and shrubs in the garden are automatically watered by an irrigation system, and the pool is regularly cleaned.

We returned to La Herradura approximately 10 years since our last visit with our now grown up children (17 & 20), having spent many enjoyable holidays in the area when they were younger. We love the surrounding area and the village itself, it has a very safe feel and the many bars and restaurants on the beach are all busy without being 'too lively'. The Villa is a short drive from the village or about a 20 minute walk, with views over the Mediterranean sea. When we arrived the villa was spotlessly clean, very spacious and well equipped. The description in the listing is accurate, the pool is a little small but still perfect for cooling off on a hot day! The villa owner (Simon) and the villa manager (Lisa) were very professional and made the whole process from initial enquiry to our eventual departure very easy. Lisa was very helpful and has loads of 'local' knowledge and good advice. There are many recommendations in the villa for local restaurants to visit and things to do in the local area, together with some walks. The various chiringuitos on the beach are all good, we tried El Bambu (modern), La Gaviota (traditional) but probably our favourite meal was at the restaurant No. 20. I would have no issue in recommending this villa.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in La Herradura. We have visited La Herradura many times in the last 30 years so we cannot recommend it enough! The villa was lovely with everything you could possibly need. It was very clean and well maintained. The information pack in the villa regarding the local area, local walks, and places of interest were a very nice touch. Simon was very friendly and helpful throughout and replied to emails straight away. We would recommend this villa and would be more than happy to return.

This was the second time my wife and I had visited this very beautiful area of Spain but our first visit to this lovely villa. The layout and facilities of the villa were accurately described and it was very clean and well maintained and more than met our expectations and requirements. It was very pleasant to sit and relax on the upper terrace in the evening with a glass of wine and watch the paragliders over Punta de la Mona. Information provided at the villa also allowed us to enjoy the lovely local walks into town and out to the lighthouse. We found La Herradura a very unspoilt village with just the right number of cafes, bars and restaurants. Descriptions of how to get to the villa were very comprehensive and straight forward and the customer service was very good with a 'meet and greet' on arrival. I would have no hesitation in recommending this villa to a friend or relative.

We have recently returned from our holiday in this fine, well-kept villa. With its three double bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large lounge and dining area, plus a separate fully equipped kitchen, it has everything you could possibly need for relaxing, carefree living. The sunny top terrace was voted the perfect outside eating area with its views stretching to the Punta del la Mona lighthouse and the sparkling Mediterranean beyond. The light and airy bedrooms are below, with most windows giving views to the sea. At this level there is a large roofed terrace overlooking the pool, garden and bbq area. Its cool shade proved ideal for an afternoon siesta. (Have the owners considered that this terrace is also the perfect location for table tennis?) From this terrace a couple of steps lead to the attractive pool. Not Olympic-size, but big enough for a bit of proper swimming. And it’s in an area of full sun – a great spot for drying off on a sunbed after few refreshing up-and-downs in the pool. The beaches and restaurants of La Herradura are just a few minutes away by car and an easy stroll on foot – though a little bit tougher on the uphill return journey. A ten-minute car ride in the opposite direction took us into Almunecar, a substantial seaside town with many shops and restaurants. The villa’s thoughtful owners have provided plenty of information about these and the many other interesting places to be explored nearby. A first visit to Villa Las Palmas in 2015 left us wanting more, so our stay this year was a second visit. With everything we needed readily to hand, it was very easy, on each occasion, to feel totally at home there. We will certainly be heading that way a third time.

This is a very well equipped and spacious villa. Three good sized bedrooms, three full sized bathrooms (two en-suite) plus a cloakroom, plenty of outside eating places and terraces make the accommodation very good. The lounge is huge and, although we never used it as every meal was taken outside, the dining area is also generous. Kitchen is very functional and gives good access to the upstairs balcony. Having the bedrooms downstairs really helps to keep the rooms cooler and ceiling fans make up for lack of air conditioning (greener too). Outside the pool is not huge, but perfect for idling away the day or cooling off after a day out. Ideal for children and the gardens are really well kept with interesting nooks and crannies and tropical plants. No large grass areas so don't expect to play a game of football! Overall we had a great week at this villa. Travel to Granada to see the Alhambra takes less than an hour and the beach at Playa Granada is about 20 minutes drive. But the local beaches are also very good and La Herradura really feels like somewhere the Spanish go on holiday. You can walk to the beach but is is quite a climb back up the hill and involves some walking in the road. Plenty to keep older children occupied, hiring sea kayaks is very reasonable. The beach at Marina del Este is much smaller and has a lot of marine life you can see close to the shore so worth a visit too. You do get some traffic noise as the road down to La Herradura runs behind the villa, but this is never excessive and you can pass quite a lot of time just looking at the views (which are great) and watching people coming and going. Recommended.
