Food was delicious, especially the vegetarian option. Staff was courteous and responsive.
It was very difficult to find the correct boat in Leticia. There need to be much more specific instructions on where to go. We asked about twelve people before we found the right place. We had to cross a bridge from the initial port, follow a long, not very clear path across an island, and then figure our which platform on the other side was going to Macagua. I realize that there are changes based on the river level but there needs to be a detailed map/plan provided to visitors.

We liked everything about the La Ceiba Hostel. The people in the hotel and the people in the neighborhood were helpful and interesting to talk to. They have a real reverence for the environment. The food was delicious and the excursions were great. They gave a lot of good guides. Some of the rooms were raised up to be like a tree house. I thought that was great.
There was nothing we didn’t like. It’s such an amazing place. I should let you know that the guides do not speak English. It didn’t matter to be because I can speak enough English to carry on a conversation. You can learn many things about the rain forest just by the way the guides point things out, but you will miss out on some of the conversation.

Ceiba is an amazing place with wonderful host and crew. We stayed in a house with 2 bathrooms (2 adults+3 teens), where additional 4 people would easily fit in, surrounded by trees, garden, sounds of birds, selva and the community. For light sleepers ear plugs necessary, as the “nature”wakes up early. As we went to bed early, we didn’t mind it at all. we could observe from our terrace birds and monkeys. The trips were great and informative, guides from indigenous tribes helped to gain their perspective- for us it was an unforgettable experience.
Be aware (for trips in July):
- - it is hot and humid, moskitos are present, so dress respectively - long sleeve and long pants, but airy, breathable; great are zip-off pants for the moments “in between” on the boat, in the restaurant during the whole day excursions; we have changed clothes twice a day due to humidity and run out of clean ones fast (it is not easy to dry anything quickly!)
- - La Ceiba provides rain boots for selva walks (!), you don’t need trekking shoes
- - 20th July is Colombian Independence Day-we were in Puerto Narino that day, which was great as people from all communities came to celebrate
- - take a walk in the community of Mocagua, visit the museum where you can touch and try almost everything and hear about life and habits/traditions of Tikuna: for kids (but also adults) from Europe it is Discovery Channel Live.
- - our plane from Bogota was 2 hours late, so we’ve missed the public transport. It was not easy to find a reliable private boat among dozen people offering services - we finally found an agency next door to the public transport office- same price as offers at the shore, but we felt safer. On the way back we opted for private transfer too (the journey takes 1/2 of the time and you set the hour by yourself) organized by Ceiba- it was cheaper than that one from Leticia and the boat was 100x nicer, so if you opt for private transfer my recommendation is plan this ahead with La Ceiba

There were viewpoints to see the river and the jungle. We got to see wildlife like monkeys, parrots, and other birds from the dining table and view points. The property was close to the water and on the edge of the community, which made accessing both the tours and the community easy. The shared bathrooms were always open and tidy. Our room had a hammock on the balcony.
Everyone at La Cevia was kind, friendly, accommodating and joyful. There was lots of laughter. They were flexible with what we wanted to do. They listened to what we wanted to see and do and gave suggestions of what they thought would be best. Manuel and Daisy took care of everything for us including boots, arranging trips and tours, tickets for the boat taxi, and getting to the airport. We had many trips with Jose, who was knowledgeable about everything we asked and didn’t get tired from our many questions. Everyone engaged in light hearted conversation which made us feel welcomed.
The trips to Peru and Puerto Nariño were educational and we learned a lot about local communities and indigenous people. Every guide and person with La Cevia was passionate about conserving the local environment, giving back the their community, and building relationships with other people who are doing the same. This was inspiring to hear. People were generous in sharing their stories with us.
Things to know:
-bring mosquito repellent
-we went in dry season and having light weight long sleeve pants was needed to go into the jungle
-we only needed a pair of sandals and tennis shoe for footwear because they have rubber boots
-they supply a set of binoculars, but we wish we would have brought our own too and downloaded an app with local birds on it

location
meals were the same every day, herbal education talk not worth it. the experience consisted of one of the members from the community talk about his experience growing up as taita and sharing names of 4 plants he used and that’s it. I was looking to learn more practical skills and identify some plants for health purposes.

Everything was so nice especially the home made food. They even brought a private hammock in my own balcony which was very nice.
Wel I guess this has nothing to do with the hotel but I was the only guest and it was raining all day so I was kinda bored. I understand that the staff, facilities or manager have nothing to do with this though.

The location is nice and comfortable. The restaurant service is very good.
They overcharge the activities and extra services, for example they charged us 50000 COP (10euros) each person for washing the clothes!! They didn't want to tell us how much it wuld be, even though I asked twice before washing the clothes. The just answered "don't worry it is not much". They didn't include this service in the final bill, and only until the last moment before taking the boat to Leticia they charged us. Everything was planned, we didn't have time to protest or calculate properly. it felt like a betrayal for me. This hotel is becoming greedy and it's not good for the community, you can clearly see inequality. This hotel has power over the community, so they are starting doing what they want, such us paying poorly to the community and overcharging the tourists. Greediness at its maximum expression. It's a pitty because the community has a lot to offer.

The staff is super friendly and helpful. They were always available to answer our questions, accommodate the tours we wanted to do and make us feel comfortable. The place is close to where most of the tours take place. The guides are very nice and knowledgeable. The hotel is within the Mocagua community, we were able to walk around the community. I highly recommend La Ceiba.
Some of the tours in Peru were a little pricey. Otherwise everything was great!!

I liked the super friendly staff, the views, the tours, the food and the lovely atmosphere. Amazing place and super recomendable! They ll organize everything for you!
There is no internet connection. Get your check in for your flight back home done by a friend from home or book automatic check-in. There is only few connection with "Tigo". But actually a place where you don't miss internet.

Great location in the small village Mocagua, on the Amazon river. Nice, simple, comfortable rooms cleaned daily by the awesome staff. Beautiful surroundings, gardens and close to the jungle. Lots of birds, animals, insects around the premises. Just take a flashlight out at night and you will be amazed. Accommodating staff, just ask, they will do everything they can to accommodate the guests. Nice owner is always around makkg sure we were happy with our stay. They offer lots of activities to choose from, all nice and safe. We had the highest room with the terrace in the resort, with beautiful views of the river and sunset. Food is good and traditional/tipical, they make fresh juice with all the meals. All food is cooked daily, my favorite was the fish. But everything is delicious. The town is clean and it's worth exploring on foot, morning, day or night with flashlights to look for animals at night. The people in Mocagua are super friendly, we were even invited for lunch by one of the residents. Twice. Overall a great experience with La Cieba.
The only thing we missed was a ceiling fan some of the days when it was very hot. That's it.
Everything else was PERFECT.

The location is great. The food is good. Some activities where super interesting!
I didn't get the room I booked. On the photo it was a upper room with light etc. And it wasn’t the case. I saw much nicer room so better to ask before. I was traveling by myself and they didn't offer me to share activities with other guest in order to spend less money. They also let me do a night canoeing tour while knowing I won't see any wildlife.

we had the tower room with private bathroom which was absolutely gorgeous!!!
easy to Organise Tours when you are there. everything worked well (the Peru sloth tour was by far the best). good food at a very good price.

The facilities were very clean and comfortable. Loved the balcony and hammock in my room where I can see the jungle and the birds every morning. Love the community of Mocagua.
The food was good but was basically the same throughout the entire stay. Even with the same ingredients, it could use a bit more creativity in terms of flavors.

This was definitely our adventurous part of our trip and we loved every minute of it! You need to walk from Leticia to find the fast ferry launch then ferry to the dock where the hotel boat will pick you up again. Takes about 2 hours to get to the hotel by boat so plan ahead. I recommend the hotel books the ferry for you like we did! We did the dolphin and monkey excursion, night walk, visited the Peruvian community, and were able to relax while enjoying the great food at the hotel. You are instantly immersed in beautiful nature, culture, and relaxed listening to the birds and sounds of the jungle. Highly recommend if you are looking for a once in a lifetime experience.

I enjoyed the breakfast. Local foods. Our room was lovely with an awesome view. We had a balcony outside our room. The best view was from the bathroom window. The sound of birds at sunrise is amazing.
Paying in cash was difficult but understandable.

The staff was friendly and accommodating, allowing us to customize our itinerary completely and organized activities to fit our schedule. The lodge is unique and authentic, and you can feel that it is truly a family-run atmosphere with direct ties to the community. The lodge messaged me through Booking.com to organize transit from Leticia to the lodge about 1.5h away, as well as meeting up with a translator (even with conversational Spanish, it helped a ton to have someone essentially "assigned" to our group to communicate with and organize transportation all around the Amazon - also very affordable). The lodge had a variety of room shapes and sizes, potable water, a variety of fresh juices, a highly-flexible and diverse offering of activities, lots of friendly staff available, and a lookout tower to see the sunset over the Amazon. The communication before our arrival was top-notch and made the whole experience a breeze - I've never quite had so much information made available to me before an arrival, but I can't thank them enough for the extra effort invested in making sure our arrival and departure went smoothly. I think La Ceiba offers an experience you couldn't get staying nearer to the towns, while still providing all the conveniences and comforts of a clean and organized lodge.
Maybe a little diversity with the food offerings, but I understand the challenges. They did offer vegan/pescatarian options on limited notice, but the meals, while tasty, were a little repetitive. Even still, a great experience that I would recommend.

everything and everyone there. it’s remote, beautiful and really gives you a great feel for the area. the staff was super kind and friendly, the guides were excellent and very knowledgeable. great food, great tours, 2 sweet dogs to play with (Muneca and Toby). i loved everything about this place. having a decent level of Spanish helps although you can probably get by with a good translation app as the guides understand some English, but don’t speak much/any.
nothing. it was perfect

La Ceiba, his owner and the staff are absolutely amazing. The activities they offer are very good quality, safe, tourist-orientend but even though, quite authentic. If you want to experience the Amazon as is, I highly recommend this stay, as well as the community of Mocagua.
4.5 / 5.0
The staff makes you feel welcomed and is ready to help you with whatever you may need. Breakfasts, lunches and dinners are delicious and abundant. The activities are amazing and makes you discover the true Amazon.
The place is quite far from Leticia, it takes over 2 hours by boat (plus another short trip with a smaller boat) to get there. When the river is dry it can become very difficult even for the boats to get there. Bathrooms are shared with other guests.

La Ceiba is a wonderful place to stat in the Colombian amazon for a great price (super budget friendly)
The location is in a local community with the river in front, just perfect to enjoy the river and the amazon. The food is excellent.
All the staff is very helpful, always making sure you are comfortable and you can meet your plans or expectations. They offer guided tours and activities, we visited other local communities and Puerto Nariño and it was awesome.

Great location in the middle of amazonia. very friendly staff, available for every need. They organized all activities and excursions as we liked. A great place to live the Amazonian experience! Highly recommended.
Only issue was that in one of the excursions we were supposed to also go fishing, but it was not possible because a boat was used by another group.

The team were incredibly friendly and very concerned with the happiness of our stay. The meals were excellent and the views from the top of the tower over the rainforest and river were quite nice. It is definitely in the town of Mocagua, but it felt nice to be part of the little community rather than some isolated resort. There is actually another restaurant in the town run by a women named Vicky. Her restaurant is definitely worth a try one of the dinners or lunches even though the food at La Ceiba is also great. The town still has quite a remote feel since it has no cars and lights go off at around 8:30pm. The basket weaving activity was a fun treat, and a nice break from the more adventurous treks.
The rooms didn't have fans which was fine for the time of year we went, but could be a challenge in the summer. It would have been helpful to have the activity prices posted on the website more clearly somewhere to insure we had enough cash to pay for all the activities we wanted to do. The sound insulation for the dorm rooms is essentially non-existent, but everyone goes to sleep pretty quickly since the power goes out.

Friendly and caring staff, the location is amazing, lucky to be' in la ceiba.

The hosts are welcoming. They provide good description of the available tours and the area in general. Tasty meals, Freshly squeezed juice offered at every meal was refreshing to beat the heat of the Amazonas. The place provides a real feel of the Amazons amidst the jungle. The tour guides are friendly and informative.
Make sure you get the help from La Ceiba hosts to get the boat tickets from Leticia --> La Ceiba. If not the locals might extort some extra money for the boat ride. We took a private boat which costed about 5 times the usual cost. But no regrets , as the private boat ride was better than the speed boat shuttle.

You can not go wrong by coming here - every imaginable tour is available and they were all top notch and super value for the money. We were thoroughly satisfied with every aspect of the property, tours staff and the stay overall.
Not much - its rustic as can be expected in the middle of the jungle but really outstanding.

Overall, everything was great! Great staff, great location, great activities, great community, great everything.
Very welcoming community. The energy of appreciation for being there is felt from the off start. Maria, her husband, her son, and her staff are just wonderful, always with a smile. Their very aware if you need something and are more than happy to assist.
The place is very unique, authentic and clean. Within the nature of the island, close to the deck once you go up the stairs.
All the activities are highly recommended, but I truly, in a personal level, appreciated the activity of the monkey foundation. To get there you need to walk through nature for more or less 20 minutes. There you will meet Jhon, a gentlemen that has put his heart and soul for 17 years to recover monkeys who have been rescued from contraband, slavery, hunting etc... and bring them back to their natural habitat.
Overall the experience is unique and beautiful and the connection one has with oneself is priceless.
Thanks to the whole Mocagua community for this joyful visit, will be back in the near future.

Location was perfect for bird watching and touring the Amazon. What sets this place above is the friendliness of the staff and owners and the community vibe that the entire place has. The meals were tasty, boat tours were great with great local guides.
I would have liked a fan in my room..... but, it is the Amazon and one should expect to get hot.

Wow wow wow wow! Everything was incredible here. Easily one of the best places I have ever stayed in my life. This is how tourism should be.
Maria and Manuel are so welcoming, kind, and compassionate. They shared their story with us and told us about their project of building the beautiful lodge, and how they are using it to empower and give back to their community in Mocagua. Currently, this ecolodge supports over 30 families in the community. We felt so fortunate to be able to meet such incredible people and share a wonderful few days on the Amazon river with them and the larger Mocagua community. If you are interested in ethical and sustainable tourism, where you are visiting a place and giving back to the local indigenous community and learning from them, this is the spot for you.
On top of that, the facilities were clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. Food is AMAZING! And all the excursions were fantastic. So much fun!!

Would be great if rooms and hotel had more hamacs.
