About this cabin rental
Welcome to Edeneast
If it’s a private back to nature experience you are seeking, you have found an ideal setting for that. This quiet off the grid cabin, all powered by propane, is very private, is at an elevation of 1100 feet and fronts on a crystal clear pond with no other camps in view. Get away from the busy stressful world we all live in and relax. . Eden is a wonderful place to take in the Vermont summer or fall. Reconnect with nature and each other here.
The cabin faces west on the pond and has a screened porch overlooking the pond. This is a comfortable but simple cabin that does not have electricity but has propane lights, gas fridge, stove, hot water heater and full bathroom. It is an Open design on the lower level with kitchen, living room dining area and one bedroom with a double bed and bathroom. There is also a loft for additional sleeping area. The property has 400 feet of frontage on the pond with swimming area, dock and canoe. You can even swim au natural if you want ! The pond has beaver, turtle, visiting loons and ducks and has perch, bass and sunfish for the fisherman.
Everything you need for cooking, meal preparation and utensils is provided. You must bring your own sheets, ( double for the bedroom and queen size for the loft), single for the porch, towels and paper products. Plenty of blankets are on site. There is a Weber charcoal grill available for barbecuing. We do not allow outside campfires due to fire danger. There is no easy way to extinguish a fire.
Everything you might need for food is just 3 miles away at a decent size market.
If you desire more activity than hanging around the cabin, there are numerous hiking and biking trails nearby and many opportunities for canoeing and fishing. The camp is about 40 minutes north of Stowe, Vt. Which is a charming ski town with great restaurants and shops. The whole area is a recreational paradise: There is a new indoor water park at Jay peak nearby and many interesting towns and other sites to take in. The camp is a beautiful place for the fall foliage and has a wood stove with plenty of wood for those crisp fall days.
The Weekly rate is $800.The camp is available for rent from late May through October .The daily rate for stays shorter than a week is $135.00There is a minimum 3 day stay policy.
I also charge a refundable $100 cleaning/security deposit. This is a unique arrangement in that I rely on the camper to clean the camp thoroughly and remove all garbage before leaving. This keeps the cost down.
I limit the number of guests to 4 as there is a dug well and water must be conserved.
Because the pond is private and extremely quiet, it is important for any potential renters to understand that they must keep a low profile here so as not to disturb the unique nature of this spot. Dogs may be considered if they present no risk in terms of chasing wildlife or barking. There is a canoe provided but due to milfoil concerns, I do not allow renters to put their own kayaks or other boats in the pond.
Note, the camp is only available late May to October. It is closed in the winter.

A great opportunity to get away from it all. Float in the canoe and watch turtles sunning themselves on logs, watch loons, otters, beavers, swim in cool clean water and just enjoy looking at the pond. Artists, writers and those who appreciate nature this is a special place.

This was a rustic, quaint, no-frills, and absolutely perfect spot to get away. The view was spectacular, the stars were bright, the fish were biting, the porcupines were friendly, and the silence was palpable. Ed was super responsive and very pleasant to work with. We appreciated the cabin, the dock, and all of the stunning natural beauty of Northern Vermont.

Ed's cabin is a flashback to simpler days, and that is its beauty. The pond is a peaceful oasis that we sat by every morning with our coffee and enjoyed canoeing across each day (sometimes accompanied by tail slapping beavers and a loon or two). The area is completey protected from further building so will remain just as quiet and special as it is. Ed is a terrific correspondant, and works to keep things simple for guests. We arrived during a very hot spell, so were happy to have a battery powered fan to help cool things off. Otherwise, the gas-lights and propane stove worked just fine. The local store is surprisingly well stocked, so cooking/grilling at the cabin is the way to go, if you don't want to drive 20-30 minutes or so to a restaurant.

I must confess we give nicknames to our rental properties. We dubbed Eden “The Propane Palace.” It’s not an insult—we called our 1840 home “The Termite Palace” for years because we had the main wooden support beam replaced due to termite damage.
But Eden Rest truly is a palace of nature. The camp perches above the dark pond, surrounded by trees, mountain views, and sky. Is it rustic? Yes. Was I terrified by the propane lights? Yes. But we figured them out along with the stove (so easy).
We lived on the deck and the screened-in porch. We ate breakfast and dinner out there, played board games, and at times just sat on the deck and enjoyed the silence.
Since we visited during a rare heat wave, my wife used the bedroom and I slept on the porch bed. I can say the porch bed was great—comfortable and open to the night air. Once dawn filled the sky, I kept peeking to see if the beavers graced the pond.
Yes, the path to the dock is rough. The space could be trimmed wider. My wife and I used my hiking poles which made the going much easier. (We’re short and old). But the water was wonderful. We floated to the pond’s other side and meandered to and fro while admiring the sunset.
The beavers waited until our last evening to make their appearance, but they graced us three times!
The loons scared me awake one night… yikes!
If you’re looking to wrap yourself in comforting peace and quiet, this is the palace you need.

Great location overlooking pond. Quiet, peaceful, wildlife everywhere, close to hiking, fishing, swimming, plenty to do if you love the outdoors. Communication with owner was great. Answered all my questions and helped with my special requests. However the cabin needs a lot of attention. A serious renovation and upgrades are in order. Pathway to pond is a accident waiting to happen. This off the grid cabin has the potential with a little TLC and is a gold mine waiting to happen.

The house is cozy, very clean and in a beautiful location. It's perfect for the totally physically fit who want a quiet get-away and intend to stay put for most of their stay. Otherwise, it involves a long, bumpy ride to the main road and at least a 20 mile drive to the nearest store of any size. Writers, artists and others who like to do their own thing would be pleased. The Eden General Store has some groceries but nothing organic if that's important to you. We took rather long trips to hikes, rail trails for biking and visited friends an hour away. The pond is clean and inviting except for access which is challenging not only along the path but also getting on and off the dock. I have shown photos to friends who are interested in this kind of experience. They are younger and just looking for a peaceful rest which this cabin offers.

If you are looking for a lovely serene place to hang out in nature, swim, and get away from it all, this is it. The cabin has everything one needs for a simple relaxing vacation with tons of light/windows, books, games, candles, folding chairs, all the kitchen necessities and a very comfy couch and beds. Ed is just terrific to work with as well. Highly recommended!

I loved everything about it, lack of coverage, zero electricity and propane lamps I had to learn to light on. Location is perfect, very close to hiking trails, nice pond where you can swim and beautiful fall foliage around us (we came in October). Ed is great, he gave us very detailed instructions, communication with him was a breeze and he made no issues when we wanted to extend our stay. I will be back for sure.

A beautiful location nearby tons of outdoor activities. We loved our relaxing time here by Gut pond. We fished, hiked and visited beautiful Newport and sampled the excellent and varied library of books in the cabin. Ed was quick to responded to any questions we had .
We hope to return soon.!

We loved Ed’s place! Total privacy we saw two bikers in 6 days. Ed is a great communicator. If you need to recharge it’s perfect, calming place on a small private pond. Definitely a rustic cabin but nice, great hot water! We’d visit again!

Booked this property for 3 days and wished I could have stayed longer. This place is so peaceful and secluded which was exactly what I was looking for. Ed was great to communicate with and allowed us to also bring our dog. The only thing I would add is that the path to lake is steep and when wet was very slippery. We hope to return again someday! Thank you for sharing your place with us.

This cabin on Gut Pond is a real treat! Since I did not have cell service in this location, it was a real step back into simpler living. The 3-season porch was my favorite spot with great views and pond breezes. We swam, we canoed, we checked out the beaver, we hiked to the fire tower at Elmore State Park (outstanding views), we hiked to Prospect Rock out of Johnson - another great view shed. It was a wonderful opportunity to unhook and let go.

What you get at Eden Cabin is a cleansing of the soul and mind. You are really alone there save for a distant cabin which shares the road to the cabin. You will never know you are off the grid- plenty of hot water and a cold frig. Also, Stowe is only 20-25 minutes away and Newport to the N a little more. I hope to return maybe in the fall. The photos tell the story

10 days of paradise
We are return campers from 9 years ago. The cabin was exactly as we remember which made us totally delighted. We were able to relax and renew. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful vacation this is the place. We packed up lots of groceries, swim suits and sun screen and had no reason to leave this little oasis. We were lulled to sleep by the sounds of bull frogs and loons. Swam with turtles and beavers every day. Made fantastic meals on a big old gas range and a charcoal grill. The evenings were cool and perfectly lit by propane lanterns on the walls of the cabin.
A great place to swim, read, build puzzles and visit. Can't wait to return again

Natural Isolation
Beautiful spot for a real getaway. I had some reservations about staying at an off-grid cabin. But they proved to be unfounded. The cabin was overall clean, and all the gas appliances worked just fine. The gravity-supplied water is pretty amazing allowing for standard indoor plumbing. It is a very quiet place with lots of wildlife. You can watch the beavers swimming around the pond at dusk, and hear the frogs croaking. You can spend all day curled up with a book or head out to Stowe for all types of outdoor activities. The cabin is rustic, but if you are looking to disconnect, this is a slice of natural paradise.

This cabin was much more than we expected. The view was fantastic and the peace and quiet delightfu
Working with Ed, the owner was the best. He sent us the key well in advance and included accurate directions and instructions on working the propane stove. Refrigerator and lights. Just wish the weather would have cooperated a little more.

Stunning and Simple
Ed's cabin was one of the most beautiful spots I've ever visited. The rustic simplicity of the cabin made it ideal for my boyfriend and I to really get away and enjoy nature and one another. You won't find a lovelier spot in Vermont.

Charming, peaceful camp on lovely pond
As others have said, Edward's camp is a wonderful place to unwind and enjoy nature. After the 4th of July weekend, we had the pond to ourselves - except for loon, birds and beavers! And like others, we quickly learned how to light the propane lights, stove, etc. We also enjoyed the wood stove on a chilly night and rainy morning.
Morristown was a lovely town to explore on a cold day but gazing at the lake, swimming and canoeing was plenty.
We felt like we were in a secluded spot AND close enough to stores, coffee shops, etc. Highly recommend this camp!

Just What We Needed
We were looking for a place to decompress and this fit the bill perfectly. Every morning and evening was spent on the deck enjoying the serenity of the pond and nature all around. A loon greeted us upon arrival and a lovely deer came along the path on the morning of our departure. So beautiful. Though there are a handful of other camps on the pond, we felt secluded which is exactly what we wanted. We prepared most of our meals (kitchen is adequately stocked) and enjoyed eating them on the deck using a card table and chairs that Ed has - set with a pretty table cloth that we brought. Felt like dining out! We used the canoe, which is in good condition (as is the dock), several times and caught a few perch. We enjoyed this cabin very much and appreciated Ed's communication.
