About this house rental
Built in 1953, this 3,000-square-foot mid-century modern house with great amenities, while preserving the relaxing appeal of a 1950's beach home. Its open floor plan is great for relaxing with the family, playing games, and creating lasting memories. The enclosed porch with old Captiva charm perfect for sunset viewing is complete with a round table, chairs, and beautiful wood finishes. This is the perfect spot to watch the most stunning sunset you have ever seen.
Take a small step up into the open floorplan living room, dining room, and kitchen. The brick fireplace features unique artwork and a large flat screen television. The sectional couch and extra chairs are a great spot to curl up and watch your favorite movies after a long day at the beach. The open kitchen is the perfect spot to create a great meal while still enjoying friends and family in the living room. The floors in the main area of the home are original tile from the 1950’s.
Large cabinets, a coffee bar, tall counters, and updated appliances will supply you with everything you will need to cook a fresh meal or store and reheat leftovers. The kitchen also opens to the dining area with a large table and seating for eight.
The first queen bedroom is located off the dining room and features views of the beach. This bedroom has its own private bathroom that was recently remodeled with coastal tile accents. A flat screen television and couches make this a great bedroom for family and friends.
Take the short stairs down to the spacious second bedroom which is great for children or an entire family that is brightly decorated with two twin beds, a queen bed, a flat screen television, and a large window seat. Take the short stairs up to the second floor featuring two bedrooms each with their own bathrooms. The first bedroom features two double beds, the private bathroom, and flat screen television.
The second bedroom has a king bed, the private bathroom, and a private lanai overlooking the pool. The enclosed lanai is at the perfect angle for a morning coffee while you watch the colors of the sunrise and their reflection on the pool.
The pool is large, 32-by-16-feet, heated, and naturally landscaped. It has a roomy shallow wading ledge perfect for kids to play and splash around in. After steps, the pool gently slopes to a depth of six feet, with additional ledges on the sides for sitting and relaxing. There are two outdoor showers, great for washing the sand off before entering the home. Amenities include a washer and dryer, 4 flat screen TVs, 1 large flat screen smart TV, 2 DVD players, a stereo, wireless speakers, and high-speed wireless internet throughout the home.
Baybarlyn is an older beach home that is the perfect place for both large and small gatherings. Stroll along the dock path while enjoying the tropical plantings unique to the islands. The dock is a great spot for some of the best fishing in the area. Right across the street is the home's private beach, a lovely place to relax, read, or play in the surf. Captiva features world-class shelling, so you will easily find a few treasures to take home with you. As the day melts into the night, enjoy our stunning sunsets and stargazing is second to none on Captiva Island. The properties distance from the mainland keeps the light and noise pollution to a minimum, allowing the stars to dominate the night sky and the sea breeze to be the only sound heard for miles.
If you desire a night in, there are large screen TV's, Xbox, a game closet, and access to high speed Wi-Fi throughout the house. If you're looking for fun island excursions there are many options within easy walking or biking distance. Nearby 'Tween Waters Inn hosts crab racing on Mondays and Thursdays. Local art galleries such as Jungle Drums display the works of island and mainland artists and craftsmen. The island has several marinas where you can rent a boat to cruise around the islands and up the Inter-Coastal Waterway. Bring your own boat and moor it at our shared dock in the back bay, a haven for sport fishing. If you enjoy kayaking, you can rent one from various locations on both Captiva and Sanibel. Spend the day exploring the numerous bays and mangrove trails, such as the newly reopened Buck Key. Restaurants such as The Mucky Duck, The Green Flash, and Key Lime Bistro ensure that visitors with a desire for delicious food will not be disappointed. For dessert, pick up a giant slice of cake or pie from The Bubble Room, a quirky, 1930s-themed restaurant near the heart of the town. During the winter, visitors are welcome to attend services at the Chapel by the Sea. Services are held in a charming one-room schoolhouse-turned-chapel. Sanibel Island is home to Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge and Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (C.R.O.W.). These places are wonderful for learning more about the islands and local wildlife. Ding Darling has a beautiful wildlife drive, several walking paths, and is well known for its fantastic birdwatching. Tarpon Bay Marina and Wildlife, affiliated with Ding Darling, has a sea animal touch tank and gives educational boat tours of the protected bay area lead by Marine Biologists. C.R.O.W. also features many educational programs. Whether you seek a warm, relaxing getaway during the winter or a fun-filled family vacation in the summer, Baybarlyn with its enchanting tropical charm will delight you.

This ‘cottage’ is actually a very spacious home with various separate indoor and outdoor living areas. We were a family of five with three adult kids, and the house could certainly handle more with all of the extra beds and four bedrooms. It is very well appointed with everything that you will need in the kitchen, closets, games, books, etc. All appliances worked perfectly. TV and internet worked well also. Having four different full baths really made it easy for our group of five to get cleaned up after a day at the beach. The heated pool was wonderful on some of the 65-70 degree January days. The location which is facing the Gulf about mid-island on Captiva provides less traffic and more privacy, but downtown Captiva (1.2 mi) is an easy stroll or bike ride to restaurants, shops, or basic groceries. We had good shelling right on the beach across the street, and the bay access via the property’s ‘through-island’ path to the dock, was really nice. We did not get to fish at all, but I suspect that renting some equipment would be a very nice way to relax. Obviously, the islands are recovering from Hurricane Ian’s destructive impact in September 2022. We were impressed with how far things are coming along. Much of Sanibel’s beachfront and any non-stilted buildings are still under construction or in transition. Captiva’s first mile of beachfront vacation homes also took a hit, but progress is being made everywhere. The islands’ refuges have a

The house itself was great! The location was perfect for beach time, just a short walk across the street. Many great restaurants and shops a short drive away. When we return to Captiva Island we will be staying at Baybarlyn once again.

Baybarlyn Getaway
Baybarlyn was the perfect vacation home for our adult family of 7 . We loved the " total retro" vibe! The location was great. We enjoyed sunrises and some visiting manatees at the dock and sunsets at the beach. We spent plenty of time at the pool as well. The gulf was calm most of the time while we were there except for a few days due to the winds. The beach supplies were great to have - sand toys, wagons, noodles and intertubes. Communication was easy with KIngfisher vacations and they answered my questions quickly and thoroughly. Plenty of space for us and we have rented again for next year.

Great stay at Baybarlyn!
Already rebooked for next Spring Break. The property is beautiful and the house worked great for our two families. The pool was maybe the biggest hit along with the sunsets just off our front porch. Beach access was easy and quiet. Looking forward to coming back.

Home away from home
Great location for families, access to the beach was so easy. Had tons of toys for the pool and beach. The backyard/pool area is excellent with a beautiful pool with very large shallow area for small kids, ping-pong table and bags to play. Grill worked well for a cookout. House is perfect for everyone to spread out and have their own space, each room feels very private. Beds, linens, towels were all nice.
Minor issues are with supplies in the kitchen. No cleaning supplies were included even to wipe the counters. No dishwasher tabs or soap was supplied either. No cooking spray. No foil or plastic wrap for leftovers. A little bit would have gone a long way since local stores are small and expensive.
Come here if you want an amazing private pool, the beach to yourself with great shelling, and beautiful sunsets every night. You will need a car as most resteraunts and shops are 5-10 minutes away.

Baybarlyn
Location was terrific and the beach was very nice. Unfortunately this house was not accurately represented in the ads. Ad says "old Florida style", reality is that it is an old house in ill repair. AC did not work, sink handle fell off, there was a serious ant infestation, and it had a funky smell. Management company was very responsive but the house just needs a major renovation.

A Perfect Beach Vacation
Baybarlin was the perfect fit for our family. The moment we walked in, we felt at home. While it is not a large home, it is spacious and cozy at the same time, with charming, beachy decor and plenty of entertainment by way of games and books. We found the home very clean and the linens and towels in good condition. With young children, we appreciated the leather furniture in the living room (less worry about spills) and the tile floor throughout. The kitchen is roomy enough to prepare meals (which we did almost every day of our stay due to the situation with Covid-19), and well outfitted with cookware, utensils, serving pieces and plenty of plates, bowls and mugs. The glassware could use some updating but it was plentiful as well. We found the refrigerator a tad small, but only because (again due to Covid) we bought a lot at once so we could avoid making several trips to the store or multiple deliveries. The walk to the beach across the street is short and easy. We were initially concerned about crossing the street but for the most part, when there was traffic, drivers were courteous and would stop for us to cross, especially when they saw the little ones, so it turned out to be no problem at all. The home has several colorful chairs stacked on the side of the path on the way to the shore which we used in the evenings when we went to watch the sunset since we had brought beach chairs and a shade tent for the beach day. We did find umbrellas, carts and floating rings and such in a closet in the pool area. It would be a good thing for renters to know this ahead of time. The most outstanding feature of this home is the pool area. The pool is lovely and was well maintained and so much fun for all. We had lunch in the patio table (equipped with umbrella) every day and there was a ping pong table there was well, but mostly, it was just very pleasant and occasionally breezy, even in late June. We loved our stay in Baybarlyn and definitely hope to be back!

It’s a great place to stay especially if you like the beach and the back bay. We enjoyed the beach, pool and dock. We brought our kayaks, paddle boards and fishing poles and rented bikes. We were busy during the days and enjoyed beautiful sunsets on the beach in the evenings!

Perfect stay great home .
We loved the location, walking and bike riding friendly, the house had space to spare for six adults, pool is wonderful, beach was all ours for two weeks. We saw dolphin every day swimming in the water, beach chairs, towels, umbrella all provided and convenient. The kitchen was outfitted with everything we needed and we did cook a good bit. We had one issue with hot water in one shower and it was fixed immediately. One of the best houses we have rented in Sanibel/Captiva.

Great Family Get Away
We loved our stay at Baybarlyn! We had two families with a combined 6 kids ranging 3-9. This house was perfect! Enough room for everyone and plenty of bathrooms. The kids were in the heated pool just about everyday, all day. The pool is perfect for little ones and the older kids due to the nice shallow spots for the younger kids. They had plenty of pool and beach accessories to keep them occupied also. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and cookware so you can make just about anything. We would recommend any family to stay here. It was wonderful!

The best of beach and pool!
The private pool area is simply great -- ample deck space, good ping pong, a nice grill, and a well designed pool. Sliding your chair into the pool shelf is just as much fun as sitting with your feet in the waves at the beach - so we did both.( Ample chairs and tables, but could use a few more sun loungers.) The trip to the beach is a breeze since the beach chairs are kept stacked on the beach in your private area. The house is spacious with numerous TV's for our whole extended family (six adults and three kids). Lots of good seating and extra spaces for privacy. The house is well equipped and the array of pool and beach toys for kids is really appreciated.
Captiva is lovely and the beach is quiet and clean. We enjoyed eating at the Mucky Duck, but be aware you may need to head to Sanibel for enough options if you are on Captiva for the busy season. The village eateries fill up. We did find take-out from Doc Ford's an excellent option. Also, the internet is rather slow so if you have big files/work bring your hot spot.
Really - this is a superb place.

Fantastic house on beautiful, relaxing Captiva Island
House is terrific and in a perfect location. Located across the street from the beach and Gulf of Mexico with a great pool in the backyard. House amenities were more than adequate and the kitchen is very well stocked. Myself and family (8 total) had an excellent vacation and really enjoyed the house.

CAPTIVAted by Baybarlyn
I have had the great privilege of spending my summer vacation time in this house for the past several years, and I must say that if you’re looking for an idyllic beach hideout, look no further. This is one of the last remaining original beach houses on the island, and it is clear that this house is well loved. A few of the walls have been hand-painted (the beach scene in the downstairs bathroom is amazing!), and the house is filled with numerous shells and beach knickknacks that the owners have collected over the years. It’s a charming, peaceful place that embodies the words “relaxation” and “vacation.”
Although it’s one of the older homes on Captiva, Baybarlyn is by no means lacking in amenities. The kitchen has been upgraded and is fully equipped for all of your cooking ventures. The swimming pool is a fantastic new addition, and families with children will love the kid-friendly wading end of the pool. If you can’t miss your favorite TV show, no problem: there are several TVs (complete with DVD players) located throughout the house. And if you absolutely must do work while you’re on vacation, connecting to the World Wide Web is a cinch thanks to the high-speed wireless internet.
Baybarlyn is delightfully spacious and can easily accommodate a large group of people, but if you’d like to break away from the crowd, you have only to walk outside and onto the short private path that leads to a gorgeous beach featuring some of the best shelling in the world. It is also a leisurely stroll away from the peaceful Pine Island Sound, where you can relax and watch boats float by on their way to and from the marina. You might even spot a manatee lounging in the quiet waters.
Baybarlyn’s location on the island is perfect: It’s within walking/biking distance of the shops and restaurants in Captiva Proper, but it’s far enough away from the “town hub” to feel exotic and isolated. This house’s placement allows you to make your vacation whatever you want it to be, whether you desire adventure or relaxation. It is an ideal place to stay whether you’re a couple looking to spend a romantic week together or a large family with big beach holiday dreams.
A sign that hangs above the formal dining table says it all: “Life is good at the beach.” Life IS good at the beach -- and it’s better at Baybarlyn.
