About this apartment rental
Meet the original property of "Les Appartements des Artistes" in Pezenas. Located in a nearly 300-year-old historically protected building in the very center of a vibrant, rich, village in the heart of Southern France.
Celebrating our 10th year, "L’Appartement Des Artistes #1" is a two-bedroom apartment that sleeps four people in comfort and style. This is an ideal location for those who dream of not only visiting southern France..but experiencing it completely.
"L'Appartement des Artistes #1" is listed on HomeAway by David and Holly; who have a unique story: They list 4 properties in 3 different countries on HomeAway (Canada, France and the United States): Appartement des Artistes #1 (#979853), Appartement des Artistes #2 (#4274763), La Casa del Artistas (#1084215vb) and The Artist’s Home (#3516795). David and Holly learned early on that if they garnered multiple 5-star reviews, had awesome locations, quick response times, and service, their properties would stand out from the crowd on HomeAway. Holly and David have demonstrated their commitment to providing great travel experiences, and have done so consistently for 10 years without raising their prices. This year, HomeAway awarded them the "Premier Partner" status. HomeAway feels David and Holly have some of the best vacation rental properties on the HomeAway website. It all started with this wonderful apartment in the heart of this vibrant French village.
After a day of exploring the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, it’s nice to know that there is a beautiful, comfortable apartment that awaits you. Sit in the Salon/Cuisine and enjoy local delicacies you’ve discovered over a bottle of local wine before dinner. The French have perfected the art of living well, and this apartment has been outfitted to help you achieve this with ease.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, freezer, oven, stove, microwave and dishwasher, Nespresso coffee maker, kettle, and toaster. There is even a clothes washing machine at your disposal in the apartment. Many of these amenities simply don’t exist with other rentals in the area.
"L’Appartement Des Artistes" has two bedrooms. The Master bedroom has 4 meter high ceilings, large french windows, Juliet Balcony and a European Queen sized bed. The guest bedroom has two single beds and features original beams in the ceiling. This apartment is perfect for two couples, or a family of four.
Each room is freshly made up for your arrival with linens and towels. This property is completely prepared in advance with a complimentary bottle of chilled wine waiting to celebrate your arrival...all that is left to do is unpack your bags and begin enjoying your vacation time in the “Midi”.
The Rough Guide to Languedoc - Roussillon calls Pézenas, “One of the most singularly beautiful towns in the French Southwest, endowed with an overwhelming concentration of grand architecture”. Thanks to Armand de Bourbon, Prince of Conti, Pézenas was considered the “second Versailles” in the late 17th century. This drew wealth, artists, and playwrights of the caliber of Moliere all seeking to gain favor and patronage from the court.
Today, Pézenas has an incredibly well preserved Old Town filled with outdoor restaurants, artisans, and entertainment. Seasonal festivals, celebrations, and a huge Saturday market take place year-round in Pézenas and it’s neighboring villages. Located in the middle of the largest wine-growing region in all of France, and less than a half-hour drive from the Mediterranean beaches. Simple pleasures abound.
With so many things to see and do in the Languedoc-Roussilon, Pézenas is ideally situated. The town of Pézenas itself is beautiful and vibrant. From buying bread and tasty treats at the local boulangerie, people-watching at one of the town’s outdoor cafés, or exploring one of the many antique shops (Brocantes), Pézenas has so much to offer. The Old Town is rich with history and fine architecture and full of unique artisan shops and fine restaurants. What’s more, Pézenas has one of the best year-round Saturday Markets in the area. All of this and more is just steps away from "L’Appartement des Artistes #1"
Some of the finest beaches in Southern France are a short drive away, but there is so much more to this area than sun and sand. Incredible sites like Pont de Gard, the medieval ramparts of Carcassone, or visiting cities like Montpellier, Narbonne, Beziers, Nimes, and Arles. These all make wonderful day-trips from Pézenas. Don't forget, every Saturday the Market is in full swing, or that during the summer: The Old Town is open twice a week until midnight, and Fridays are reserved for Estival. Truly, there are so many things to see and do. You will need more than a week just to scratch the surface of this enchanting area.
Please note: Located across the hall in the same beautiful building, we also have a second property (Home Away Property # 4274763), "L'Appartement des Artistes No.2" could be used for those travelling with a large group, or two families, this apartment can be rented in conjunction with #979853. You can travel with friends and family, and be "together, but separate". Remeber, if "No. 1" is unavailable, please check "L'Appartement des Artistes No. 2". Both are of equal quality and price.

What a wonderful experience. David and Hilly were the best hosts - could not have been more welcoming or helpful.

Convenient and comfortable with everything you need for a stay in Pezenas. All the details considered and tasteful decor, comfortable beds, furniture and surroundings. You can walk to all the shops, cafes and multiple antique shops in town as well as a quick trip to the beach! We had an excellent visit

The property was exactly as described. It's location and the amenities were amazing. David was excellent at responding to my questions as this was a trip that was originally planned for summer of 2020 and was delayed 3 years. He also provided suggestions for things to do, places to eat, places to park...anything we needed. I would highly recommend and I hope to return with my husband and family as this trip was a sister trip. Tres bon!!!

We enjoy staying in smaller towns and Pezenas was perfect for what we wanted. The old city centre with interesting history and tons of stores and restaurants were all within a 5-minute stroll of the apartment. We loved the apartment's location - the bakery, greengrocer, and a handy mini-supermarket were all literally just steps away.
The kitchen is small but well-equipped, the beds are comfortable, and the wi fi very reliable. David and Holly provided detailed directions to the building, access, and parking options. Whenever we emailed with a question, they were prompt to reply. If we ever come back to Pezenas, we would want to stay here again.

Our stay could not have been better! This is one of the best rental experiences we have had - town and location, apartment and amenities, communication with David and Holly and their help with every question we had. We felt like we were in our own home.

Holly & Dave are the consummate hosts. Everything you could need is provided. The apartment is so close (steps) to the Historic Old Town that you get such an authentic old world France experience. Market on Saturday, Les Estivales on Friday night, the quaint little shops, narrow streets, patisserie shops, boulangeries, and coffee. Tres bon! The area surrounding Pezenas is steaped in 1000 yr old history, and you are 20 min away from some great beaches on the Mediterranean Sea. Would definitely go back!

The apartment is simply perfect, comfortable, it has everything you need. The location is also very good, next door to lots of lovely restaurants and shops within Pézenas old city. 20 mns always from the sea. David and Holly made sure we had a perfect stay. Will come back for sure.

Pezenas is a great town to visit, lots of things to do and see in town, and then almost unlimited excursions within reach of town. Apartment is up two flights of stairs, in an old charming building. Apartment is spacious and comfortable. There is a nice produce store across the street, a fantastic bakery/pastry store a few buildings down, and you are a half block from the Saturday market and the old town. Owners are very kind and responsive. Our one major complaint is the night time noise - young kids racing their mopeds up and down the streets, loud conversations that easily penetrate the apartments windows and shutters. Sometimes the noises died down around 11 pm, but too many times it went on much longer. Some, or maybe much of this is a result of being in a city type neighborhood where there are many people nearby, including kids, who seem to have a very late bedtime. Some is due to being on a narrow stone road, that carries sound easily, and some is due to people just talking loudly, or calling to each other as they walk down the street, oblivious to the idea that their voices are carrying. I think if you live in a city or neighborhood where there is noise through the late evening and night, this may not be a problem for you, but we are used to quiet at night. We spent a week in Paris at the end of our trip, in a hotel on a very busy, noisy street, but it was absolutely quiet in the room. I'm guessing the windows were double or triple glazed.

'Home from Home'
Just returned from a wonderful stay at this beautiful apartment which was very well equipped with everything required for our stay. The Apartment itself was very characterful and very conveniently situated 2 mins from the main square. Pezenus itself was beautiful. Lots of quaint streets and houses, lovely restaurants and a lovely Saturday morning market. David and Holly were very welcoming and particularly helpful during our stay in providing lots of tips for various places to visit. Would not hesitate recommending to family and friends and hopefully will return to Pezenas in the future.

Can't wait to come back to this area and do some more exploring. Thank you Dave and Holly for all of your wonderful tips and suggestions. The travel books are and awesome touch. And the artwork, it's just so perfect for the space. This was and anniversary to remember!

Loved everything about the property; great location, clean and stylish with lots of things included for an enjoyable stay.

Welcoming, Very Clean, close to EVERYTHING, Feel at home, everything needed provided. Quiet
We had never travelled to South France before. We had no expectations but after a week in this lovely, friendly town we are sold. WE WILL BE BACK!! Its important to know that my wife and I have travelled extensively but know basically no French. All the local businesses were extremely patient and understanding with this handicap of ours. As for this rental the location was amazing! Withing 100 steps of the flat we found an amazing bakery, fruit market, butcher, barber, grocery store. We highly recommend trying the local restaurants also. The flat itself was very clean, comfortable, spacious, with character but amazing modern amenities. Beautifully decorated throughout with local art and paintings. Dave and Holly and Oscar were terrific hosts and extremely helpful. We also viewed apartment #4 which is slightly larger than #6 but equally charming.

Dream of a lifetime stay in this beautiful Pezenas apartment.
Our family of four (two teenaged girls who loved every moment) had the most amazing stay in this quaint French town. Our hosts Dave and Holly could not have been more accommodating during our stay. We were lovingly welcomed with nicely chilled bottle of local wine, and their helpful suggestions were a godsend to us.
We spent our days exploring the beautiful town and Languedoc region (Saint-Guilhelm-Le-Desert is a must see) in the morning, and finishing up with a swim in the ocean in the afternoons. We didn't have enough time visit all the different beaches that were about 20 to 30 minutes away by car.
The location of the apartment could not have been better. We started each morning with a walk to the bakery and vegetable shop - both of which are stones throw away from the front door. Around the corner had a supermarket with everything else you could need. The Piscenois are very friendly and helpful.
The apartment is even more beautiful and comfortable than the photos suggest and those floor to ceiling windows will charm the heck out of you. The kitchen has everything you would need to cook your meals.
The only regret we had was the length of our stay, one week is not enough and we cannot wait to return to explore this area more thoroughly.

Lovely convenient base for enjoying a beautiful and art conscious little town
Very well appointed apartment and wonderful shower. The owners David and Holly were very helpful in giving advice as to what local restaurants offered what and we spent a wonderful four days exploring the medieval streets of the town as well as Sete and other nearby towns .

Lovely, well designed apartment
Pezenas is a jewel of a town. The apartment is well laid out with a great kitchen. All the utensils were there. Across the street and around the corner are two great fruit and veg stores. Butchers and bakeries are plentiful. There are great sites and hiking paths near-by. David and Holly were very helpful and responded quickly to any questions. Strong wifi connection (not always the case we have found)

Beautiful Town/Wonderful Apartment
We visited Pezenas in February of 2017 and very much enjoyed both the town and Dave and Holly's apartment. Winter is a quiet time in Pezenas which has its pros and cons. It is very quiet. I actually don't think we saw any other tourists there during our entire 3 day visit. The old part of town was deserted and I am sure that is not the case in the summer. Pretty amazing to walk around deserted medieval streets at night. Many shops/stores and restaurants were closed however. We certainly had several good options for restaurants and the key stores were open (wine, boulangerie) so on balance it was very nice to be there in the off season. Pezenas is very centrally located to visit the many sites this area of France has to offer. We easily drove the coast one day, Nimes and the roman sites the other and swung by the Cathar castles on the way back to Barcelona.
The apartment itself was as described and as pictured. Parking was very easy if you followed David's directions. No problems there at all. The apartment was well outfitted with all you need for a stay - welcome bottle of wine and some basics for the fridge to get you by before you can get to the store. Apartment was roomy (we were two adults and two grown kids) and comfortable - opening up all of the windows was a real treat - pretty quiet little side street but steps to city center and old town. Well equipped with local travel books, maps and local recommendations. We ate one night at Le Temp des Cerises which is steps from the front door - highly recommended.
David was super responsive and attentive to every question. I would highly recommend this apartment - without reservation.

Perfect and satisfying
The apartment was lovely, attractive, comfortable and well equipped. It is perfectly sited near the centre of town in an area both residential and commercial. David was helpful and easy to deal with. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to coming again.

Beautiful apartment in a perfect location
I highly recommend this beautifully equipped and comfortably elegant apartment. It is in the historic centre of Pezenas- easy walk to all historic landmarks, great restaurants and cafes. Loved to smell the croissants baking in the morning - then just cross the road and pick up breakfast at the bakery and the fruit stall. Later, a short walk to the square to buy my fish and veg and have a coffee. Every day walking through the old town I would see something new and wonderful. A 30 minute drive in any direction brings you to great beaches and amazing medieval towns. The owners are friendly and helpful and they ensured I had all the information I needed. This one will be a definite repeat for me and one that I will highly recommend to my friends. Indeed, this apartment has all the elements for a perfect stay.

Charming and artistic
The owners were so helpful in ensuring that the property was prepared for our visit and they gave great advice on areas to experience, where best to park, etc. Our 5-year old son was so excited about the bucket of legos that they had for kids to play with and the beach toys. Nice touch.
We enjoyed the surrounding area; our favorite activity was the beach in Marseillan. It was family-friendly and the water was calm - plus, a sandy beach! The olive oil tour was so much fun, make sure you do that. The restaurant behind is named L'Hacienda and it was absolutely amazing and one of our favorite restaurants during our two-month tour of Southern France, run by Chef Jose and his wife Diane. (We also took a quick trip down to Barcelona during our stay and it was quite convenient to drive there from Pezenas.)
2.5
The property is extremely convenient to the historic town, parking, and transportation connections.
The property is larger than we expected and easily allows for 2 couples or a family of 4 or 5. All appliances are contemporary and the added convenience of grocery, patisserie, deli and high quality restaurants within 100m can't be beat. The apartment comes equipped with everything you will need for a memorable time in the south of France. We highly recommend this property.
