Historic Platte Lake House, nestled in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, for rent this Spring, Summer and Fall! Be one of the few lucky guests to spend your vacation in this amazing home.

The house is 2200 sq ft and has 4 Bedrooms, a Guest Cabin , 2 Full Bathrooms, Spacious Kitchen, Combined Large Dining Room- Living Room, Additional TV-Lounge Room, Lakefront Entertainment Room(with futon), 3 Tier Oversized Deck, with one tier over the lake, and Beach Bonfire Pit with BBQ and Refrigerator. There is also a 70 foot dock for sunbathing and fishing. The Home is located on 1.3 acres of wooded land, has 205 feet of private lakefront and is only 2 miles away from Lake Michigan and the south end of Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. Only a twenty minute drive to the world famous Sleeping Bear Dune Climb and the stunning Pierce Stocking Bluffs. Also only a 30 minute drive to Traverse City.

This home is steeped in History and will charm you from the minute you roll down its private gravel drive. Built in the early 1900's by our Great Grandfather John Peck, a famous Platte Valley logger, the house is around 100 years old. It is built entirely from local lumber and has a personality that cannot be found in many other homes. When it was first built the home was used as a summer camp for boys and girls, and was affectionately named Camp Wasquam-- after the Native American Family that worked for our Great Grandfather. At that time, there were only two other houses on Big Platte Lake.

On top of this rich history, the house’s location is exceptional. Its proximity to the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and the Grand Traverse Area is ideal. There are an abundance of activities and attractions at your doorstep: numerous hiking trails and dune climbs along the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, great fishing and canoeing on the Upper/Lower Platte Rivers, the Historic Lighthouse at Point Betsie, unique shops/restaurants of Beulah, Frankfort, and Glen Arbor, the one-of-a-kind Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theater(only 1.5 miles away), several nationally ranked golf courses, art and music events at the internationally renowned Interlochen Center for the Arts, and relaxing Winery tours on both the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas. These are just a few of the many activities in the area, almost all of which are within 30 miles-- many only 10 miles-- and if you book a stay with us you will have access to our large and comprehensive database of all the worthwhile activities and attractions in the area.

We all had a nice relaxing and fun week at your home. We enjoyed playing in the water every day. It was a nice bonus to have the kayaks as we used them daily. We kayaked the Platte River and it was awesome!! A lot of different activities an sights to see close by. Enjoyed sitting around the campfire every night. The home had everything we needed and was clean with plenty of room. Thank you for sharing your home with us!!

We stayed here with our three adult children and their significant others to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. The place is exactly as it appears in the photos. It was very clean and very well stocked. There were great beds - hard to find a place with three bedrooms that have at least a queen sized bed. The outdoor area was very nice with a dock, kayaks, fire pit, lots of seating, etc. The lake was nice and we used our boat several days. The only drawback for us was a lack of comfortable seating and good lighting in the living room. The furniture wasn't really meant for lounging. The best piece of furniture was the couch on the side porch but my son slept in there all week so it wasn't really available for use as a living area.

We had a wonderful week on Platte Lake. The cottage was perfect. Very cool place to replenish your Pure Michigan spirit. The cottage had so many great places to relax and take in the beautiful scene. Plenty of space for our family and all of the amenities that we could ever ask for. Being on the footsteps of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore makes it even more ideal. The hosts were helpful, kind and gracious. Great overall experience.

My Chicago and Cleveland families had a wonderful vacation at Historic Platte Lake Home! Being on the lake with yardage on either side of the home was perfect! We took advantage of the kayaks provided and my grandsons loved just running around , playing games. I would definitely recommend!
