About this house rental
Welcome to The Hiding Place! We are certain you will fall in love with Bald Head Island and never want to leave. Our beautiful home is nestled in the maritime forest among large oak trees with gorgeous hanging Spanish moss. We love living in the forest with the shade it provides when you return from a sunny day at the beach and being able to listen to the singing birds. We are so centrally located that it takes less than 2 minutes by golf cart to get to South Beach and just 5 minutes to walk up to the Maritime Market and quaint shops.
We purchased our home (built in 2008) in February of 2017 and were blessed to be able to lovingly paint and furnish the entire home with everything new and American made from places like Ethan Allen and Bassett Furniture, including bedding by Ralph Lauren and Pottery Barn with Wamsutta and Tommy Bahama bath towels. You will be enveloped by warmth and coziness.
We have worked hard to provide all you will need to relax and unwind and be refreshed. Enjoy the open floor plan, custom cabinets, granite counter tops, and spacious living areas. The large master bedroom has a stunning white 4-poster king bed, a sitting area and an open deck off the master with table and four chairs which is perfect for morning coffee or star gazing to end the day. The ensuite master bath has two sinks, a dual head shower and a walk in closet. The second bedroom has a king bed, walk in closet and ensuite bath with tiled shower and built in bench in the shower. The third bedroom is perfect for kids with a set of bunkbeds and PS4 game system. The bathroom for this bedroom is adjacent and has a tub and shower combo. The second floor also has a central TV viewing room with a day bed with trundle (a possible 4th bedroom) as well as the laundry with state of the art washer and dryer.
The first floor is an open concept that includes the family room with a smart tv with blue ray player, dining area, a fully stocked chef's kitchen with stainless steel appliances, including double ovens, convenient breakfast bar and half bath. The gorgeous round wood dining table seats eight. A screened porch off the dining room provides another place to dine with a table for 6 and two comfy swivel rockers to relax and enjoy the outdoors bug free. Twinkle lights make nighttime a special spot to wind down! A covered wrap around rocking chair porch is perfect for early morning and late day relaxation with 5 rocking chairs.
Your vacation will be memorable with many special touches - a DVD library with over 50 movies, games, puzzles, books, beach towels, a beach cooler bag, a programmable crock pot, waffle maker, Bose Bluetooth speaker, clocks with charging docks in each bedroom, a PS4 in the bunk room with 2 controllers and games, Oster electric wine bottle opener, Cuisinart single serve coffee maker (uses Kcups) in kitchen, a small Keurig coffee maker in the master bedroom, Aeropress Coffee and Espresso maker, Bodum coffee pour over, Krups electric spice and coffee grinder, Kitchen Aid mixer, 5 flat screen tvs (1 in each bedroom, 1 in the spare room and 1 in the family room - and all but one are smart tv's to be able to stream Netflix or Hulu).
Our home has two 4 person golf carts (one with doors and the other with rain gear), 2 Diamondback bikes, now a third bike (Nishiki), a gas grill, beach toys (including Corn Hole, Bocce Ball, and Spike Ball) 8 beach chairs, two beach tents, a beach blanket, one fishing pole and an outdoor shower.
For little ones we have a Graco Pack n Play, a Ciao Baby portable high chair, a booster seat, and a Pop N’ Sit portable beach chair.
We have a BHI Club Lifestyle membership which is now NO LONGER included in the rental price. It is available for separate purchase and will provide you with access to golf (cart fees and greens fees are a separate cost from the membership price) tennis, fitness center, croquet, aquatic center and dining. The renovation they’ve completed is stunning!

Trip was relaxing and packed full of beach time. Shops on island were cute and within walking distance of home. Home was well stocked with everything needed to make the trip memorable. Owners of home responded to questions and provided a comprehensive notebook to make the trip easy!!!!!

We had a wonderful time staying at the Hiding Place. Everything we needed was provided for and thought out thoroughly. We so appreciated having condiments already in the fridge and supplies in the kitchen. The washer and dryer was brand new as well and easy to use. The shower pressures were outstanding. Thank you for opening up your home. We had a very pleasant stay.

We came to Bald Head Island for our daughter's wedding. This property exceeded our expectations. It was very clean and well stocked. I always travel with a can of Lysol, but i didn't need to use it in this home. They supplied every kitchen gadget you could possibly need. The upstairs closet even had medicine cabinet supplies. We were so pleased we tried to stay an extra day but the home was already rented out. The host was very responsive with all communication. I would definitely rent this home again.

Jeff couldn't have been a better host. the property location is perfect and the house is very well stocked and the beds extremely comfortable. My family has never slept so well on vacation before. This was our fourth stay in this home. We LOVE everything about it…location, how wonderfully it is appointed and we are provided for, the wonderful atmosphere of the home, and great communication with the owners Jeff and Susan. It feels like you are at home the minute you enter this warm and cozy home and at the same time like you are a honored guest. There are so many comfortable niches to sink into…the screened porch, the wrap around porch, the upper deck, the upstairs alcove, or simply hanging out in the living room. Every need and then some is provided by the Sampsons…you cannot go wrong with a stay here! It is a vacation in and of itself!

From the time you walk in this house, you just feel the love. It is so cozy, so well stocked with everything you need and such a special place to vacation with your family and your dogs, we loved our stay here immensely! Two golf carts, bikes, beach chairs a tent, outdoor shower..upstairs balcony off the master, it is conveniently located next to one of the best restaurants on the island called the jail house proximate to so many hiking trails through the forest and a bike ride or a golf cart ride to the beach in minutes. Until we have our own place on Bald Head , the Hiding Place will be our home away from home. So grateful for this experience, can’t wait to return. Great hosts, great location, 5 stars*****

The location is perfect - walking distance to the market and a restaurant. It was great to have access to two golf carts making it feasible to go all around Bald Head Island. Loved the bed linens throughout the house; cozy and comfy, and the beds have comfortable mattresses. The home is very clean and has all the amenities you should need during your stay!
The owner of the home was very accessible prior to and during our visit, and responded quickly to my questions. I would definitely stay at this home again.

Jeff has literally thought of everything to make guests feel comfortable in this charming BHI house! From a well stocked kitchen with spices, quality pots/pans and knives to comfortable bedding and thoughtful labeling of the whole house. The location couldn't be beat, literally a 5 minute walk to the Maritime Market and charming Jailhouse Provisions with delicious foods and take-out coffee and smoothie bar as well as a short walk or golf cart ride to the beach. Any time we had questions the host was responsive, helpful and friendly. You can't go wrong with this one!

Amazing Stay at the Hiding Place
Our stay at the Hiding Place was absolutely amazing! The home is lovely and very well-suited to accommodate families. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The location is perfect -- hidden away in the forest and so close to the beach and everything on the island. We will definitely return next summer. Thank you for hosting us, Jeff!

Perfect place to stay for a wedding on the island
There was a great restaurant right across the street from the house. It was easy to navigate the whole island right from this location with the golf carts readily available. I only wish we could have stayed longer.

Comfortable and stylish decor, well appointed kitchen with every possible accessory, televisions with cable options in all bedrooms, family room, and upstairs den. Garage has 2 golf carts in great shape for traveling around the island, 3 bikes, and items to take to the beach. Lovely screened in porch area for lunches and dinners.
The homes in the forest are truly the hidden gems of the island. They are secluded and private, with old oak tree canopies to keep them out of the sun. It feels like you're in a mountain hideaway, yet you can get in your cart and be a 45 second cart ride from the Atlantic beach. Hard to beat it.
The owners have clearly wanted you to feel at home. Very communicative and willing to go above and beyond to make your stay as relaxing and stress free as possible. I would recommend anyone considering a trip to BHI to put this property on your list. Our family enjoyed our stay, and you will not be disappointed.

Wonderful and cozy home. Well stocked and well appointed. Owner was very responsive and accommodating. It was an easy walk to the market and just across the street from Midway coffee house and the new Jailhouse restaurant - which were both delicious for breakfast and lunch. We look forward to visiting again soon.

Hiding Place BHI perfect
This island house is so well planned & cared for, wonderful stay. The house maximizes the location with sunny porches & a screened porch that surrounds with comfort of Maritine forest and birds! Bed linens are upscale & promise a good nights sleep. Kitchen is well stocked, gas grill is nice. Furniture is nicely maintained and very comfortable. Windows provide light and forest views. Location to South Beach is a pleasant short stroll & Island Market very convenient. The golf carts are excellent, the “cab” cart made rainy day drive easy. Our visit of 12 days ended too quickly, one could settle in at the Hiding Place! I highly recommend with confidence.

This was our first trip to the island. The house couldn’t have been better. We had everything that we needed. The house is extremely clean and very well stocked. We definitely want to come back and stay longer next time. The club membership is a great bonus. Thanks to the owners for being extremely responsive and helpful!
