We had 6 adults on this trip and the unit was an excellent choice. There were a few small issues - but the property managers were EXCELLENT and the repairs were the same day we filed the issue. We were here for a week - 21 total meals - of which we cooked in the unit 16 of them. Groceries are 50% more here on the island - but eating out is 4X more than eating in! The kitchen included just about everything we needed - including spices! They also provided 6 beach chairs and a cooler (which was broken and they replaced same day). Water pressure and temp was amazing - all 6 adults taking showers after a long day at the beach and there was still hot water! Internet was STRONG - but we did need to reboot the router twice as the internet dropped - more a provider issue than a unit issue. There’s a medium sized w/d in the unit - washer is great - but the dryer is ventless - so it does take a lot of time to dry things. We washed mostly towels a few times. There’s a wine fridge we put to good use and the refrigerator has a ton of space and makes lots of ice. The views are AMAZING - and each of the sunsets was unique and wonderful. It has a wrap around deck that is huge - and enough seating for everyone - including a full size dining table outside. Nothing better than eating breakfast outside in the morning. One of the better units on this property and well managed. So glad we made this trip. Maui is amazing as always!

This is the 4th time staying at this resort. This year we went with ocean front and it was worth it.
Very comfortable layout and plenty of room for a party of 7 to relax and connect.
Property management is very responsive to our requested. Like immediately communicating and less then 30 mins requests were completed!!
As for the unit itself, some stains in the carpet, and on the furniture are noted. We had a run in with a few cockroach’s.
All in all a great getaway and the sunset views are incredible as well as watching the whales breach from the balcony with your morning coffee is a great way to start your day!!

We stayed for a week in 550 and it was spectacular. One of the 8 memebers of our grup aid their favoruate thing about the week trip was sitting on the balcony watching the day start or the sunset at night. Just beautiful! Place was very roomy for our group of 8 and had everything we needed. Would stay here again without question!

Wonderful condo with gorgeous views! My husband and I took our family (Daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren). We renewed our vows on our anniversary on the beach (50 years) and then went to dinner at Dukes. The kids had fun snorkeling and boogie boarding. I could go on and on. A trip none of us will ever forget!

the condo is huge! our family of 5 had plenty of space. we especially loved hanging on the lanai, cooking on the grill and having drinks at sunset.

The 5 of us thoroughly enjoyed this property. The view was amazing, pools and beach access easy, communication prompt. Our only complaint was parking. It was included in the price but 95% of the time it was full and we had to pay to valet. Was not a fan of that.

Super easy check in/check out. Customer service was great. The resort was amazing and the view was INCREDIBLE.

Couldn’t have enjoyed the property more. The view was spectacular, which was accurately reflected in the listing photos. Having the end unit gave our family plenty of privacy and the best views available.

This property has an amazing view. It is well equipped and was enough room for our family. When we go back we will definitely try and stay here again!

The amount of space isn't shown in the pictures. We had a wonderful stay and would stay again.

We really enjoyed our stay - let me start off by saying that this property is very nice, but I'm not sure that it was worth over $2,100 per night (plus taxes and fees)... Probably closer to $1,200 would be more accurate.
The location is great, pools are nice, room was clean, nicely appointed and comfortable - however the parking situation was a nightmare, elevator took FOREVER and we were on the 5th floor so the stairs weren't really an option. We rarely found a parking spot close to the elevator and they only had 2 handicap spots that would accommodate a suburban (both of which were occupied nearly every time).
It was nice being able to eat at Duke's and get drinks - however poolside service was awful. Everyone was doing their best, but they were severely short-staffed. We were there a total of six nights and never once got an opportunity to order food and drinks poolside despite hours and hours at the pool. We had to pack our own every time. We would try to get someone's attention and they would say they would come back and never did. EVER.
Luckily they had a market and a major shopping center across the street, but it was really hard to get our groceries up to our room because we weren't allowed to use the luggage carts since we didn't book through the Honua Kai directly and the previously mentioned parking/elevator situation needs to be improved.
The beach was great, make sure you bring your water shoes because there are sharp rocks and coral everywhere - which is great if you're snorkeling but bad if you're boogie boarding don't know it's there...
Room service really would have been nice and a place like this - all in all we had a great time, this was a splurge for us and I'm glad we went, but I believe it's overpriced.

When we first arrived it was obvious that the cleaning crew had left in a hurry as they left all of their supplies and some dirty smelling rags right by the front door when we walked in. The door was left open so it’s obvious they left in a hurry. Unfortunately we also found glass on the floor and in one instance had to pick it out of a family member’s foot. Other than this experience, our stay was absolutely amazing. We could see whales from our balcony every day. The resort amenities were spectacular. The kitchen was fully equipped and there was a grocery store just a five minute walk away. They location with great in the beach was amazing! Other than the bad experience on the first night the state was spectacular. Thankfully the property owner was good at communicating and made right the wrongs.

Wow! What an incredible experience. I was initially hesitant to book a last minute trip to Maui for Thanksgiving through VRBO vs direct through resort (like we have in the past), but man am I so glad I did.
The communication was excellent from beginning to end. Check in was a breeze for our family of 6 (with little kiddos in tow), and our unit at Honua Kai Resort (Konea 550) was IMMACULATE, very spacious for a 3 bedroom unit, and better than the photos.
The unit was spotlessly clean, set up perfectly for us (pack n play, high chair, split beds in one of the guest rooms, etc.) and the view was breathtaking. We've been to Maui several times, and we usually stay at the Ritz, but this trip has us second guessing our usual routine. Not only was the resort perfect with the pools and slide for our kiddos, but it was a great launching point for any drives (like up to DT Fleming Beach), grabbing groceries, shaved ice, açaí bowls...you get it.
Also, we were provided a parking pass with a great underground spot near our unit stairwell, along with fantastic bell service for our groceries, luggage, etc. The gorgeous kitchen was stocked perfectly for our needs (for nights in) with high end appliances, and having Duke's so close for easy dinners (and pool service!) was such a plus.
We will definitely be back. I really appreciated the personal notes from Sharilyn and Jeff checking in. What a breezy, easy vacation. Thanks for everything!

Amazing location
Outstanding experience
Only suggestion is to add an umbrella to the outside table for more shade and a few more items for kitchen needed such as pot holders would be helpful

We have been to Maui several times and this was by far the most wonderful location! The condo was fully equipped and clean which made it feel comfortable like home but it also felt like you were staying in a 5 star hotel with all of the amenities that were provided. The valet service made coming and going a breeze (especially when we had groceries or luggage-we carried nothing). Several beautiful pools to choose from (kids loved the water slide) and they all had pool side cocktail/food service from the on-site restaurant Dukes. The sunsets from the huge lanai were absolutely breathtaking. Having our coffee in the morning while enjoying the views was a perfect start to the day. We loved that the bedrooms were in the back of the condo because it allowed the adults the freedom to enjoy early mornings while the kids slept in. The air conditioning issue that was mentioned in earlier reviews was never an issue for us. It was very hot and humid during our stay but we never felt warm inside the condo. I must admit we were not around much in the afternoon though other than to pop in to grab something. We were always busy enjoying the property and the nearby beaches. Directly out front of the complex the beach is narrow but a quick 3 minute walk down the boardwalk to the beach in front of the Westin next door was just perfect. Besides a few 10 minutes trips to our favorite beaches (Kapalua Bay or D.T. Fleming) we spent all of our time right on site because it had everything we needed to relax and enjoy our stay in Maui. We highly recommend this unit! The property management company even called us a few times to make sure we were enjoying our stay and weren't in need of anything. We will definitely be coming back!

We have stayed at Honua Kai twice before and loved it, but we had rented through the actual property on those visits, not like this time with VRBO. We arrived and the air conditioning was not working. They told us they were working on it. By day 3 we had air restored to bedrooms only, but no air in the kitchen or dining or main living area, where we all just sweated. Hot, hot week in Maui.... 89 degrees but felt like 97 degrees with the humidity , said the weather app. So we also had a hot, humid condo with the air blowing at 82 degrees inside, and had workmen with their ladders inside the condo with us every day. They could not or would not move us to another condo with working air conditioning . This would not have happened if we’d booked through the hotel, where they would have had other rooms available. Having to deal with 3 workmen in our condo every day blocking our passage in the hallway between the bedrooms and kitchen, and having to call Maui Resort Rentals every day put a real damper on our anniversary trip. We know they were aware the air wasn’t working when they rented it to us, because they said the people from the previous week also complained about the air conditioning. We believe they should have let the week go unrented until the air conditioning was fixed. It was just a bad experience. We will book through the hotel in the future. We also had a much nicer experience in years past with the hotel, which gave us fresh towels and sheets. No towel service for a week with VRBO is just another added “bonus”. No more VRBO for us.

The most incredible location!
We stayed in HK550 for a family vacation and it was incredible! The condo was pristine and it was so spacious. The view from the balcony was worth every penny and the sunsets were some of the best I have ever seen. We loved sitting outside for breakfast in the mornings and enjoying the grill for dinners. I cannot emphasize enough how perfect this location is! We had a few issues with the AC kicking off but the management was quick to respond and got it back up and running before we were back from the pool that afternoon. This seems to be a common issue in Hawaii with the heat and doors being left open but it was a quick fix and the condo felt great the rest of the trip!
The resort itself was stunning and had a multitude of pools to select from. From a lazy river style pool to water slides to water falls, you can't go wrong. The beach is very close as well and the water is beautiful. Though there are some rocks along the shore, they were large and smooth and easy to walk on without the need for water shoes. Make sure to grab a snorkel from the rental cabana and check out some of the reefs and tropical fish that are right off the beach. And grab a bottle of reef safe sunscreen so that it stays healthy and beautiful for everyone!
There is a restaurant onsite (Duke's) which has great food and is an easy stop for any meal you may need but don't want to leave for. They had waitresses at all of the pools who were happy to bring drinks or food right to your seat so you didn't have to miss a moment of sunshine. Whalers Village and Front Street are also a quick drive down the road if you are looking for any off site dining. The resort does have a small general store with drinks and snacks as well a little coffee bar if you need but we went to the grocery store which is very close as well and stocked up on all of our supplies for the week. The kitchen is filled with the basic set of pots and pans as well plates, cups, etc.
Overall, we were SO pleased with picking this location and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing Hawaiian experience!

Killer view
Excellent location and amenities. We hardly wanted to leave the condo because it would have been impossible to have a better view from any restaurant or bar. Unit 550 was a bit warm in the late afternoon hours when the sun was most intense, but hey it’s Maui and we wanted to be outside on the Lani anyway. This unit was great for our 8 month old....very safe and plenty of room to crawl. Staff was very responsive and the serenity of the property was perfect.

This place was fantastic. Much better than a full service hotel in my opinion. Every moment I would look out at the view I would think it was worth it!

Almost Heaven
The Property and the Unit were near perfect. The location is good, at the North end of Kaanapali. I didn't look at the map when I booked the property and was thinking it was south of Black Rock which would have been preferable; however, there is a beach walk that allows for a short run/long walk and having Dukes on site is a plus. There is a grocery store and other shops within walking distance from the back gate - which is a little difficult to find due to the large construction project that is taking place on-site. The pool area is nice but doesn't compare to some of the other properties in Kaanapali. No swim-up or outside bars but you can get service from Dukes. Our Unit was nicely appointed with outdoor grill, plenty of blenders, but a little short on some cooking utensils. We had a three bedroom which was nice and spacious, but travelling with older kids it would have been preferable if one of the rooms had twin beds.
