Six family members stayed together in three bedrooms. Lovely house. Great location. Quiet and peaceful.

This was an amazing stay - the Casa del Sol provided every comfort, but also an opportunity to participate in the unique history that makes Antigua a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The house itself is lovely - built in the traditional Spanish style with wide covered "corredors" with seating areas opening onto a magnificent enclosed central garden, and each ample room - living, dining, a super inviting eat-in kitchen, and the two bedrooms (the master with a large walk-in changing room and bath) - all accessed from the corredors. The connection of outdoor beauty and inside comfort is typical of traditional Antigua houses, and this is one of them. It's located in one of the most historic - yet most peaceful - parts of Antigua, just a few blocks from the famous central plaza and the cathedral, and directly across a cobbled street from one of the most famous Spanish convents, Las Capuchinas. The house was first occupied in 1568, yet it fully inhabits our own time, with every modern convenience - flat screen TV, good internet. And the attention of the wonderful housekeeper, Maria, who makes staying there effortless. If you want a place that's superficially Antigua but feels like the Marriott, this isn't it - it's the real deal, and will definitely be one of the best parts of your stay in Antigua.

Casa del Sol was perfect. Spacious, comfortable, historic, beautiful, casual, relaxing, close to everything. We enjoyed the flowers blooming in the bright, sunny courtyard, the opportunity to relax, away from the Semana Santa crowds on the internal veranda, and explore all the pieces of history and artisenia displayed throughout the compound. With 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and high ceilings, our multi-generational family of 5 could spread out for privacy, or congregate for movie watching or outdoor dining. Maria was an excellent resource to have as a caretaker on the property. She kept a low profile but was always available to cook a meal, do some laundry, or give advice on where to go for this or that. I loved our stay and will return again for a longer one.

What can I say?… La Casa del Sol delivers what it advertises, it delivers what it says, it delivers what it promises and more … perfect location, available and kind House manager, enough spaces and rooms for everyone to enjoy and to have some private times and moments, a large central garden —-just beautiful and refreshing … many seating areas to study (especially if you are learning Spanish or to just read and relax), and, again, the location is perfect … closer to everything.. and if you get hungry, even closer to one of the more famous street food vendor in Antigua, just around the corner … it is a place to live and a place to make many memorable memories … it is indeed “La Casa del Sol ”… and the owner is perfect to work with…

This is a lovely, well-maintained time-capsule of of a house close to everything. Expect party music from the hotel next door on weekends but it's joyful, free, and stops at 10:30 pm. We all (family) enjoyed ourselves.

The home was just beyond outstanding. It is everything you see in these pictures and more. Gorgeous resplendant garden and incredibly historical home, it's amazing just how quiet it still is despite being where it is. The home is located on a street where there is only another boutique hotel and some ruins, but still very close to everything. Communicating with Jon was really easy and pleasant, and Maria the hostess is soooo sweet. We loved spending time with her. All in all, my family knew from that first day that we would want to return here year after year. We could not have been happier with the stay. I was absolutely obsessed with the garden and the terrace. Don't pass this place up.

This property was far beyond our expectations. Tremendously historical,, beatiful courtyard, great location, and it made our stay incredibly memorable. Maria took great care of us. Can't wait to come back!

Built originally for the Governor of Guatemala in the early 1500/1600’s, this house was purchased by the current owners in 1967. We loved — the cool breeze anytime when sitting in the beautiful garden courtyard — large living area with kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 5 single beds, and a double bed — 10 minute walk to town center — Holy Week procession on Friday passed on the street a few yards/meters away (that was so convenient) — about 3-4 blocks from the famous arch de Catherine (shown in many Antigua pictures) — close to shops and markets. — on-site property manager who is very responsive (hire Maria to do your laundry and see the meticulous cleaning and folding) — Jon was easy to work with and responded quickly. A couple of items to be aware of — the bedroom with 3 beds closest to street can have some street noise in the morning. The shutter keeps it very dark, though. — Internet worked well the whole week. But, the service isn’t fast enough to support large streaming such as movies. — A/C and heating is not common in Antigua and isn’t available. But, it isn’t really necessary because the temperatures don’t vary much and the court yard has a steady, cool breeze. — for those who need a squishy soft bed, the beds are firm, but comfortable. In short, it’s a pleasant stay with lots of space, authentic Antigua feel, and close to many features. P.S. Ride a “Tuk Tuk” at least once for the experience. Hang on and remember to breathe :D

The perfect location for exploring everything Antigua has to offer. Quiet, peaceful courtyard. Walking distance to restaurants and attractions. Lovely, hot shower after climbing volcanoes. Jon and Maria were both responsive and helpful. We enjoyed our stay!

House was the perfect location for a stay in Antigua with first timers. Maria was very nice and helpful. We all loved it. The only two cons, beds were a little bit hard and the layout of the bedrooms made it difficult for kids to stay in their own room. The rooms are spread out and the kids got scared. For adults and older kids - great spot!

Such historical Home and every moment you want to know more and more about the history of the home. The Team at Casa del Sol is amazing!!! Including Luna the cat protecting the property!!!!

My husband and I stayed at Casa del Sol in Antigua for a month in January 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We found the historical house to be very charming and the courtyard space absolutely enchanting. The house is located in a central and lovely part of Antigua, only a very short walk to the main square, and an even shorter hop to many great restaurants and coffee shops in the neighbourhood. The kitchen was very well equipped and the house was spacious, very atmospheric with all its interesting decoration and wonderfully relaxing there was reliable internet connection. Maria the house keeper was very sweet, kept the house very clean and helped do the laundry for a tiny fee. Her family lived in the back courtyard and were very unobtrusive. We loved our stay at Casa del Sol and hope to be back one day! Thank you!

What a lovely stay in Antigua. Maria was so sweet, and the town is just so charming. Location of the property was ideal ... just a quick walk to Cerro de la Cruz, and also easy walking to the markets. Beautiful property!

Beautifully well kept with many artifacts from the time period that it was built in. Very comfortable with a lot of space for all of us to have our freedom. The girls, aged 7 and 10, loved to run around and play but at the same time were careful not to break or even touch anything that could be of historical value. I would stay at this casa again and recommend it to any visitor's who want to have a good travel experience. Plus, the location was ideal since it was within walking distance of the Central Park and the many store's and restaurant's! 5 star experience. We had a very nice time. House is centrally located. Just one comment, owner says there is convenient parking outside on the street, it’s true, but it’s not safe for the car. You must find a private parking around the block for the overnight. It’s open open only on weekends.

We very much enjoyed staying at Casa del Sol. It was perfect for relaxing in the evenings and close to everything. Beautiful interior and garden patio!

We loved staying at Casa del Sol. It was absolutely charming and the location was perfect for us since my daughter and I attended Spanish classes at Christian Spanish Academy. Maria who lives with her family in another section of the property was so helpful. She made a wonderful dinner one night for us and some guests for the cost of the food and a small charge. We would gladly stay there again!

The house is exactly as advertised. The location is in my opinion the best possible, directly across from the Las Cuppachinas, one of the most interesting ruins in Antigua. It is a short walk to the center of Antigua activity but just far enough to get away from the noise and congestion. It is also close to the walk up to the Cerro de la Cruz. We were pleasantly surprised by how quiet and peaceful it was on the property. We pretty much spent all of our time in the beautiful covered outdoor spaces surrounding the courtyard until we went to sleep. The house itself is beautifully reconstructed and contains a lot of interesting and tasteful art and decorations. It is obvious that the owners care deeply about the property, its history and the rich culture of Guatemala. The accommodations were spacious for our family of 5. It is not your typical layout but what do you expect in a house that is several hundred years old. I read in a previous review that someone had concerns about the lack of privacy due to the caretaker family who live in a separate house at the back of the property. We had absolutely no issues with this. Maria and her family are extremely respectful of privacy and very pleasant and helpful if you need anything. I would highly recommend this property for people looking for an authentic and peaceful Antigua experience with all if of the comfort and conveniences you need.

The house was ideal for our stay in Guatemala. We had extended family visit for part of our stay and everyone enjoyed it. Lots of room to gather, chat, play games and hang out. Easy access to the center of Antigua. Maria was lovely and so helpful during our stay. We hope to return next year.

This beautiful 16th century home was a perfect fit for our family during our week long stay in Antigua. The location was central to all the wonderful museums and sights. My kids loved playing cards with the children of the caretaker family and it was a great way for them to practice their Spanish. We would definitely stay here again.

Casa del Sol was a welcome calm as Antigua gets so crowded on weekends. No stopping the celebratory fireworks, but inside the walls was a peaceful retreat from the streets. Great for us to be back, and this time to share with friends. Gracias to Maria and family.

We love the fresh open -air living in this historic Casa in the center of town. We are comfortable and welcomed by the caring family that looks after the property. It really becomes a home for our stay.

We had a wonderful time in this historical Antigua home. Every day was a new experience in seeing some new artifact or Guatemalan collectible hanging in the wall or decorating a table top! It was so very relaxing sitting in the breezeways reading or eating and hearing the birds in the courtyard and the rooster over the fence! I miss his crowing every morning now that I'm home!! Maria and her family, who are the care takers of the house, are an added bonus to staying at Casa del Sol! They were so helpful and her three children were a delight to get to know!! My Spanish was very limited but we did fine anyways! I would highly recommend Casa del Sol as a vacation get away.... it allows you the luxury of just relaxing after a long day and cooking your own meals if you are tired of eating out.... my favorite room was the kitchen! Gracias Jon and Lucy for sharing your lovely home and what is almost a family museum with us!!!

Staying at the Casa del Sol was such a special experience for my family. The house was large enough that we each had our own bedrooms and bathrooms and never felt crowded. It was close enough to everything in town that we could walk anywhere we needed to go. Maria, Victor and the kids living in the back were extremely helpful around the house and when we had questions about Antigua in general. If I ever return to Antigua, I would definitely choose to stay in this house again! Thanks for everything!
