Had a lovely stay. Check in process was straightforward, communication with host was great. Room is very much as described/shown in pictures. The garden is truly an oasis. Very nice indeed. It’s a wonderful street/neighborhood. Great for strolling through, and just a half a block from a really great part of Montana ave., filled with great little shops and cafes and restaurants. The building is "vintage", so careless neighbors who slam doors could be an issue, and tbh, the mattress seems to be about the same vintage as the building, and really should be upgraded. But otherwise, very nice, and I would stay there again.

Great location, lovely garden, attentive owner, enough shops and restaurants open to enjoy a stroll on Montana Ave. Tried the SM Big Blue Bus service this time and was pleased with the routes.

I stayed there for 42 nights. This is a great place. The garden is wonderful and a great place to sit and enjoy. Location is wonderful. You can walk to the end of the block and then restaurants, bars, shops, Whole Foods, and many more are very close by. If you enjoy a pedestrian style experience, the place is great. The walk to the beach is 17 blocks so if the beach is your priority, do consider that. All the neighbors I meet were very friendly. Most were repeat customers having stayed there multiple times through many years. I would go back there for sure. I was working remote there and I was able to setup a laptop and monitor and work from that space. I could have used a better chair from which to work, but I was fine doing so. There is air conditioning, but I barely used it even though my stay was June-July timeframe.

Clean, tucked away, quiet and air conditioned, its all you need to get to know the less touristy (but much nicer) areas of Santa Monica. Perfect when you want your own space when visiting family or friends in the neighborhood. Mary Ann is a pleasure to communicate with and everything was as smooth as can be. Will certainly be staying here again!

I stayed here for a month in March 2019. This has been my third stay in Mary Ann’s lovely studio. More than ever, this year, I have indulged my senses with the beauty of the colours and fragrances coming from the garden. Mary Ann’s studios are the best kept secret in Santa Monica. GReid,Canada.

On a scale of one to ten, everything is an eleven. Great location,meticulous inside and out. Nestled on and surrounded with beautiful landscaping and flowers and Meyer lemon trees. We met wonderful people living at the property during our stay. The owner of the property is very professional,extremely cordial, and helped to make our stay very special. We look forward to returning next year. Thank you to all for a beautiful stay and time in Santa Monica.

This is a wonderful hidden gem! The studio apartment is beautifully furnished and the view from the porch of the sky and the garden is inspiring. Montana Ave. has a variety of shops, including a grocery store, a movie theatre a public library and a bank, as well as many restaurants and coffee shops. There is a warm, familiar neighborhood atmosphere that one becomes part of in no time!

I have stayed in this unit during the fall 2018 and everything went well. The apartment is located near several shops and in a quiet area. I was able to do my shopping on foot or by bike (with the bike sharing system). When I arrived, the apartment was clean and everything was functional. The kitchen was well equipped, the bed was confortable, the closet big enough also as the bathroom. The garden is also an heaven of peace with all the beautiful flowers and fruit trees. Mary Ann takes care of her guests and respects their privacy. When you have a question or need assistance, she is always there to help. Also, she answers very quickly to emails and text messages. In other words, she is the perfect host! I would recommend this apartment to anymore. It's a rare jewel!

This little bungalow is perfect. It is a beautiful walk away from just about everything. The neighborhood is super safe and very walkable. Mary Ann is an absolute gem and so helpful! The apartment is quaint but has everything you could ever need whether it be for a couple weeks or a few months! So happy to have found this diamond in the rough!

This is the perfect place for a person to visit Southern California without a car. The public transportation is great. Very convenient location with nearby Supermarkets,restaurants and shopping. Close to the Pacific Ocean. The Unit is Immaculately clean and has everything in it to make your stay very enjoyable. Mary Ann is a gracious hostess. She will greet you upon your arrival with citrus fruit from the beautiful garden which separates her home on 17th street from the unit overlooking that garden. Thank You,MaryAnn. We recently spent a week in the Garden Hideaway in Santa Monica and really enjoyed it. The studio apartment was very well appointed with everything we needed for a comfortable stay for the 2 of us. The grounds are an unbelievable assortment of ornamental and fruit trees and plants that I've never seen before, the owner obviously loves gardening very much...Within a short walk there are restaurants and pretty much every kind of shopping that we needed for our stay.... Santa Monica is in a great location for many area beaches and places that we wanted to visit including Disneyland, Malibu, Venice Beach and is only a short trip to Downtown L.A. should you choose to go there.... Overall we had a great time and plan to go back in the near future.

The apartment was very clean the gardens were beautiful the location was perfect walking distance to anything you would like enjoyed my visit to Santa Monica this is a perfect place for two people

Perfect place to land for a stay on the west side of Los Angeles. The garden is serene and the bed was heavenly! All amenities you need for a relaxed, comfortable stay. Neighborhood is full of restaurants/cafes/grocery stores all within a 5 minute walk. Short drive to Venice or Malibu. Parking on the street was never a problem - but pay close attention to street signs! Mary Ann couldn't have been more warm and welcoming; the absolute best hostess. I highly recommend and hope to return - didn't want to leave!!

2 days after arriving in this piece of paradise, I decided to make a deposit to come back , not for one month but for 2 next Winter. I didn't hesitate to submit my first deposit. The neibourhood is safe and close to the beach, downtown , churches ,supermarkets , bus lines and the new train . No car necessary. The studio condo is well appointed extremely clean. The garden is a great place to just relax and read. I was personally greeted by Mary Ann her self who lives in a beautiful home on the the property. She is right on your doorstep soon as you make a request. Retired senior from Canada.

This is the second time I've stayed at the Garden Hide Away for a month. The location is perfect with Montana Street half a block away with shops, restaurants and of course Whole foods. I didn't have a car and traveled by bus and metro. Public transportation is at the end of the street and so convenient. The property itself is lovely with a beautiful gardens and chairs and tables you can use. The unit is very cute and clean with all amenities you could need-a French flair to the decor. The owner Mary Ann is great-very helpful, can answer any questions and has wonderful suggestions. My stays there have been perfect and I'm looking forward to my third visit back.

A clean, comfortable studio apartment on a tree-lined, residential street in Santa Monica. Looks just like the photos. Parking on the street was never a problem. The studio has a well equipped kitchen, a very comfortable queen sized bed and a sunny garden. Very quiet but only a short walk to shops and restaurants. There is also use of onsite laundry facilities. Mary Ann (owner) is friendly and helpful. My husband and I loved it and will definitely stay here whenever we return to southern California.

The photos of the room and garden accurately portray what a wonderful place this is! Very clean and comfortable plus incredible customer service. Great neighborhood. We plan on returning and we recommend it highly. Thanks to our wonderful niece for finding this gem!
