The pool was lovely, the rooms were clean. The resort itself was lovely and clean.

I chose the Shangri-La Hambanthota because it advertised to have a lot of leisure activities. I was really disappointed that most of the activities were an additional price to the rates that we paid to stay at the hotel. The rates for the hotel were higher than a lot of other places we stayed at in Sri Lanka and when booking I was happy to pay that as I thought all the activities were included. So I was very disappointed to find out that there were extra charges for the leisure activities. The hotel also lacked atmosphere. The pool was lovely but there wasn’t any music by the pool. We go to Bali quite often and the management at this hotel would learn a lot from the hotel hideous in Bali. There were about 4 pool attendants that didn’t have a lot to do. These attendants could be facilitating games by the pool and creating a fun atmosphere. There is a nice yoga deck outside, but no yoga. We needed up taking our phones and doing yoga online up there. Again quite disappointing. The tree top walk and rope swing were also extra on top of the room rates. The facilities were run down and there were no guests using them. I would suggest to this hotel to liven up the activities, up date the facilities for the activities. Have things like cultural shows at night for the guests, kandian dancing lessons etc. The resort is such a nice place with so much potential, it’s such a shame that the leisure facilities bring it down.

Reception staff could be more helpful We’ve stayed at other hotels recently for less money but the rooms service and food were all excellent. We felt that the Shangri-La was double the price but lacking in all of these areas!
