Well, stuff breaks down at the hotel every day. I actually booked there for 10 day left after 3 days.. well that should explains everything.

Rooms furniture and decorations needs upgrade.

It’s hard to move around the city, the transportation is a challenge

Great staff and clean rooms and bathrooms. Amazing options for the breakfast buffet. The area is walkable to great shopping and restaurants.

Beautiful gardens with mature trees filled with birds, outdoor swimming pool, spa amenities, and within easy walking distance to Narayanhiti, Thamel, and even Hanuman Dhoka. The garden blocks all noise from the busy traffic nearby.

Quite, Safe and and very help full

The hotel is centrally situated, allowing one to walk to many places of interest, shopping and restaurants. It is also a heritage hotel providing a nostalgic experience. Rooms and the hotel has been renovated nicely (I was there in 2016). Could improve in the breakfast served.

I always enjoy staying at Shanker hotel. It’s a quiet oasis in Kathmandu. The staff are all excellent and extremely friendly and helpful. This hotel has character. Looking forward already to my next visit!

First Class. There was never an issue during our 11 day at this splendid taste of history. The staff were fantastic. The manager was on hand and accommodating. The room was spotless and homely. If I were in Kathmandu I’d definitely stay at this hotel again.

Must stay for royal experience

The location is good, the hotel is located in a nice big compound which felt kingly. The 24 hour customer service is nice. The only thing that I caution fellow travellers is that the pictures of rooms are slightly deceiving. They look grand and spacious in photos but in reality not so. I paid about $70 for a king size bed room but felt as if it was not worth it.

This is a beautiful hotel. Our friend got married here as well. It is a hot spot for weddings. There is always one going on. The staff was very helpful and kind. Our booked room had ants in it, so they upgraded us to a better room. The new room had a little bit of a dust problem, but it still a beautiful room and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was great too! Definitely recommend.

The hotel is gorgeous. Clean, friendly staff and quick to help with anything. The world outside the walls is a complete contrast, dusty, congested etc. Staying 10 days at the Hotel Shanker was wonderful. Would definitely recommend

The property is nice but it is also a bit tired. Staff were excellent, breakfast good but the rooms are older and bathrooms could do with modernising. Spa is good but gym literally has one treadmill and one other machine so probably doesn’t need to be called a gym. No real issues and good value for money

Hotel Shanker was serenity and quiet from the busy streets at Kathmandu. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary after our Everest Base Camp Trek at Hotel Shanker and absolutely loved it. Highly recommend

This hotel is a little oasis in Kathmandu. With beautiful gardens and a nice pool with bar and food service, it was the perfect home base to explore the area. The hotel is historic and in the process of upgrading, but they have a way to go. The red carpets in the hallways are really worn and dated and really need to go asap. Get a room on an upper floor, those have been renovated. Other than that the food is good and reasonable, I ate all my meals there for four days. Staff is fun and friendly.

I have stayed at the Shanker six different times. I find it to be superior on all levels. Mr Ramesh Raj Shrestha has helped me on many occasions. I find him always to be an excellent manager. Beautiful hotel in a great location. I had 3 stays here during my time in Nepal and enjoyed them all. My room on the final night was one of the renovated ones and was lovely. Amazing bed. Staff are great and the breakfast really good.

Nothing good

The people were all so sweet and readily available. The food at breakfast was delicious and the restaurant staff were very accommodating regarding all meals. I stayed with my very elderly grandfather and he was very safe and well looked after even when I wasn’t there. The pool was gorgeous, clean, and refreshing and the pool bar had some of the best drinks I’ve ever had. The area around the hotel was abundant with restaurants and quirky shops. The hotel was kind enough to call taxis for you so you didn’t have to walk into oncoming Kathmandu traffic to acquire one on your own (although you should prob do that for the experience anyway). The only complaint that I had was that depending on where you were in the hotel, the smell of cigarettes could be a little too much, esp if you have sensitive lungs/respiratory problems. The rooms were spacious, clean, and contained beautiful artwork that was reminiscent of the hotels past as a palace.

Rooms allocated were not what we paid for - even the uograded room given was not as per what was promised. Only when confronted with the facts that the hotel staff agreed we were cheated and we actually paid for deluxe rooms and suites and got standard rooms instead and changed them after 4 days of stay. Overall bad experience and will never stay here.

I would strongly recommend to avoid this hotel at all costs. The rooms are dated and unhygienic. I found hair in my sheets and on the last night I found a live insect crawling on the sheets. There were also ants 🐜 coming out of shirting board moving towards my bed. When I complained they offered a free beer a taxu to the airport. Terrible!

Hotel is beautiful from the outside. Inside it is dated, needs repair, has orders, some rooms are really small, some rooms have half windows.

Beautiful from outside but rooms and common areas leave a lot to be desired. Rooms are tiny without a lot of space to move around. Windows are small and you feel like you are in a box. Common breakfast area is in basement. Not updated. A shame because the grounds look nice. Very noisy. My door does not lock well

The hotel is a beautiful reminder of its past glory. The hotel is a quiet escape from the city buzz. The food served at the restaurant is phenomenal, the service is exceptional, they accommodate the guests requests.
