Very nice layout for our group 6 week old to sixties. Lots of lounge spots if you want some private time. Screened in porch off of family room and open deck on top floor were well used and enjoyed. Recommend updating master bedroom bed and making it a king if it fits, it would also help to update master bath vanity and toilet. I am 6’3” and it was a long way down. Above paragraph was a wishlist. Everything worked fine and there were lots of extras, crabbing equipment, nice Weber gas grill and Weber charcoal grill if that was your choice, tons of cutlery and plates. Hosts were very nice and attentive. We stayed for 10 nights and barely saw the sun and still had a wonderful time. Would definitely return!

Canal house was exactly as depicted. It's a classic cottage, but with all the things you & your family need for a great beach week. The location is perfect, especially the parking passes that allow access to uncrowded, beautiful beaches!

We enjoyed our stay and will likely return. Lots of space to spread out and we enjoyed the close proximity to the beach. Only suggestion would be to update some of the mattresses.

This was our 3 year staying at the Canal House. Peaceful, relaxing, plenty of space. Love the beach passes, so easy! My favorite spot is the screened in porch! We hope to be back next year!

We had a wonderful stay with our family again at the Canal House. Jane was easy to communicate with and the location and size of the house helped us to enjoy the beach while having plenty of room for everyone. We hope to continue to return year after year!

We stayed at Canal House during peak beach season. This place has everything you will ever need. I especially enjoyed the large selection of books, plentiful kitchen items, and selection beach & crabbing supplies. I once hit a snag with the PIN code to get into the house, but Jane answered me quickly, resolving the problem. She was available to answer my questions and help me when needed. My family of 5 had way more room than we needed. We hosted guests one night and had plenty of chairs and plates to accommodate. I would rent this house again in the future.

The home was a perfect location to reconnect with our kids and their significant others. Loved the set up of the home, the bedrooms and multiple living spaces easily allowed 11 of us to be together comfortably. The canal location offered us a perfect opportunities and balance for non-beach activities. The joy of being together!

The Canal House is a wonderful place to stay. This property has become our "go to" when staying in the Bethany Beach area. There is enough room to spread out as needed. The back seating area or screened in porch are perfect places for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or your favorite evening drink! It is just SO quite and peaceful. The beach is also either a short walk or drive. The house comes stocked with anything that you could possibly need. From beach accessories, kitchenware, books, and games to entertain. Both the owners and property manager are extremely quick to respond. We needed to contact the property manager due to a small checking in issue and she was on site within 10-15 minutes and quickly resolved that issue. If you are looking for a safe, clean, well stocked, and quiet house to enjoy a family vacation, this is the place for you!

Having three floors were nice to spread out. The owners were friendly to deal with. The neighborhood is quiet and everyone enjoys walking their doggies. The screen in porch is nice. The beach was nice.

This was our second time staying at this property and the second visit was as good as the first. I love staying on the canals so that I can drop my kayak right in in the morning and go for a paddle to start my day. Short walk or super-short bike ride to the beach, which always has a good amount of space and beautiful water--you'll usually see dolphins, pelicans, and cute little pipers . The house has everything you need...love sitting on the screen porch for morning coffee watching birds. It also is close to state parks and good restaurants. Great place!

I spent a week in this home with my wife and adult children. This canalside home is large, quiet and well equipped. It has plenty of parking and a short walk to the beach and stores. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms were clean. It was only a few blocks from my sister's house in Middlesex Beach and the rest of the family had no trouble finding other rentals within a few blocks. The price was great and I would definitely rent again.

This is our 3rd year staying at Canal House. We like it better every year. So much to do either the canal out back, the proximity to the beach and all the fun things to do in the area! Thanks Jane! We will be back next year!!

Rented this house for a family reunion and we had a great week. My older kids stayed on the third floor and the youngest was next to us on the main floor. The beach parking passes came in handy for a short ride right to the beach. The boys enjoyed the bikes and the multitude of bird games. Great spot for a large family like ours! Location, location, location, and this one was in a prefect spot! Enjoyed it very much!

We love staying and making memories at Canal House! We have enjoyed staying there for 6+ years. The Canal House was once again a wonderful, relaxing retreat for our growing family. We have a new granddaughter who enjoyed crawling all around your clean and comfortable second and third floor living areas. We noticed that there was a port a crib in the closet. That's so nice that you have one! Now that we know there is one at the Canal House, we won't need to bring one next year. The Canal House is fully equipped with a diversity of things. We really appreciate all the kitchen amenities, all the bathroom amenities(bath rugs and night lights were a plus!) , all the games (Bingo is our family favorite)/puzzles/ books, all the items that are in the garage for the beach (beach chairs & beach toys) & bikes too. Our granddaughter Nikki, who is 10 1/2, enjoyed playing the piano this year in the Canal House. It's so nice that you have a variety of sheet music and songbooks available there. We really enjoy the inside of the Canal House as well as the outside that the house has to offer. We enjoyed listening to the birds & insects and playing games together in the screened in porch. My mother and my wife particularly likes to sit out there in the early morning hours with their coffee and listen to the song birds. We love swinging on the swing and watching the birds fly over the canal. We got to see a Blue and a Green Heron this year. I bring our kayak every year and my wife really appreciated the ladder at your dock this year! It makes getting in and out of my kayak so much easier. Our beach week at the Canal House flies by too quickly every year. We share so many laughs and giggles with your fun games, puzzles, and books. Our granddaughter Nikki was enjoying reading a book there with riddles and enjoyed having us try to solve them. One riddle she read to us to solve, reminds me of all our wonderful times spent at the Canal House... "The more you take, the more you leave behind." Answer: Footsteps-We have left many invisible footsteps and have many incredible memories. We all look forward to coming back every summer and making new memories! We were thrilled with our stay at Canal House. It has "all of the things" and none of the fuss. A simple beach house, that provides exactly what you need for an easy week at the beach. Very well stocked with kitchen items, utensils and cookware, plenty of beach items (chairs, boards, coolers, etc.), and even bikes to use. The owners truly do make it feel like they have opened up their own home... it's not just an empty rental. It was fun to sit down at the piano for a minute or two, and play a few notes while passing through the main level. There was plenty of room to spread out inside, and the outdoor space was perfect for the little ones to catch tadpoles and crabs with their net, and multiple seating areas allowed us to eat outside easily even with 11 people. Only a half mile walk to the beach! Exactly as advertised and expected!

Our family had a wonderful stay at the Canal House. There is plenty of room to spread out with many different outdoor and indoor seating areas to choose from. Sitting on the screened porch was our favorite. The porch swing is nice too! The area is quiet and with it being close to Route 1, trips to various locations (e.g. Fenwick or Ocean City) did not seem as long. Also, the Fenwick State Park beach access was a short drive and just worked better for us with having two younger children (4 and 8). However, the South Bethany beach access is either a short walk or bike ride away. The house is stocked with everything you need. In particular, books, games, and a garage with a number of beach items to use (or plenty of room to store those you brought). Bring along bathroom rugs or extra towels to lay in the bathrooms. The outside shower is great and has hot water, which makes it very nice! Communication with the owners and property manager was quick and helpful. We will definitely be looking to visit the Canal House again as it is one of our favorites that we have rented in the area over the past five years!

Great location in South Bethany. We were blown away by how big it is compared to many original South Bethany homes -- it could easily fit 2 families. Lovely space out back by the canal that is always shaded. Having bikes to use was a lifesaver when one of our tires ruptured. I would definitely recommend this place and stay here again.

We loved the layout of the house (teens upstairs, adults down) and the shade trees/bird life...and once again, a house on the canal provided extra entertainment pre- and post-beach hours. The trees made it feel more private than our previous stay on Petherton. Only suggestion: a decent broom and dustpan would be very welcome--we couldn't find either (a couple of retirement-ready brooms but no dustpan).

We decided last minute to get away for Memorial Day weekend, and Jane and Michael were wonderful hosts! They respond promptly and stock their rental with absolutely everything a family could seek to make for a perfect time at the beach! We enjoyed paddling in the canal and jumping waves in ocean as much as we enjoyed playing their extensive closets full of board games and puzzles. Tons of space to spread out.

Another great stay at this house. This was our third visit. The weather was great and we all enjoyed our stay at this well equipped home. We had a small issue on arrival that was promptly taken care of by the property manager.

Our group includes many longtime visitors to South Bethany. The canal house offered a great way to continue the tradition while enjoying the beauty of the neighborhood

Comfortable, roomy home in lovely setting. Plenty of space for happy gatherings and quiet nooks for reading and reflection. Easy walk to beach, and couple short miles to Bethany boardwalk. Tennis and golf close at hand. Wonderful

We had a wonderful time staying at the homey Canal House. This was our second time staying and we felt right at home. We brought kayaks and had a blast exploring the canals and the bay. The beach was perfect and not crowded (like Rehoboth). The water was beautiful and we saw dolphins, crabs and pelicans. We took advantage of the local fun: visiting Dogfish Head Brewery, Tiki Boat tour, eating crabs, shopping the outlets and stores in Bethany! Special thanks to our hosts, who immediately fixed an issue we had with a door lock. We hope to be back soon!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Canal House. The owners were very helpful with area information and answered all of our questions. The house is in a quiet neighborhood and a short walk to the beach, although, we ended up driving and were able to easily find parking. We appreciate that the owners provided a resident parking permit. We had everything that we needed and the canal in the back was a bonus. Overall, we would recommend the house.

We enjoyed staying at the canal house. It's a very cozy home away from home on the canal with beautiful mature trees in back. It's also an easy walk to the beach. Our family group of myself, my husband, 2 adult children, 2 teens and 2 children had plenty of room to spread out and relax. Next time, we'll ask about renting the canoe!

We head to South Bethany most years and the Canal House is a frequent flyer for us. Quiet backwater on the canal but a quick drive and easy walk to the beach. No surprises - the place is always as described and fits our family well. For evening respites the screened in back porch is well used. A couple of us spend time working or keeping up on email and never have trouble w the wifi. Thanks Jane for the hospitality again.

We had a great time during our stay at the canal house. It was exactly as was listed. We loved the screened in porch and spent a lot of time on it. The neighborhood was very quiet and tranquil. It was a bit of a walk to the beach but it was worth it over driving. We rode our bikes into town as well that was sometimes easier than finding parking. There was plenty to do in the house and plenty of room for our party of 9 to spread out. Thanks for letting us stay we had a wonderful time!

Enjoyed a great week in South Bethany with the best the beach and bayside have to offer. The house is much brighter and cozier than the pictures show. Rented kayaks and a paddle board, brought our bikes (although turns out the house had ones we could have used) to bike around and to the beach. Had a little trouble checking in but the owner was very quick to respond and correct the issue.
