We had an unfortunate experience. We checked into our river front room on the 4th floor. The room was very small for what we paid €1300 for 3 nights, and when we first entered we were told by the staff member that the aircon was a bit noisy and not to turn it up. I tried to turn it off but it wouldn't and the room got very cold and it was noisy even when it was off. I called the reception twice and no one came to look at the issue or call me back. I went to the reception and I was told there was no issue and it would turn off at 9pm. I said I couldn't sleep in the room that noisy and if that was the case, I'd like to change rooms or hotels - the response was you need to pick that up with booking.com. I was furious. I asked for the manager but was told there was no manager on duty. I waited until after 9pm and there was no change in the air con. At this point, I returned to the reception and complained to a much more helpful and customer focused employee who moved us to a different room and the difference was immediate. No noise from the air con and you could turn it off. However, the noise from the square late at night disrupted our sleep. Also, I fell down the stairs on the last night coming from the bathroom back into the bedroom which is really dangerous for someone who is infirm or elderly. Breakfast was OK, but just a lot of factory / mass produced pastries. Coffee was terrible.

The location was outstanding.

The bathroom. It was a death trap. Tub too high to safely step into. Tub floor a complete slip & fall hazard. No discernible tape in the bottom of the tub. No handles on the inside of the tub/shower. Absolutely. Unsafe. I went three days without a shower.

Beautifully appointed, very clean. Integration of the modern & old parts of the hotel were done exceptionally well. Outside bars perfect to escape the crowds and people watch. Centrally located for sightseeing
