Staff are very friendly, they even drive us to and return from nearby restaurant by their own car. Rooms are simple but stylist. Outdoor onsen is superb. Sustainability and environmental friendliness are fully promoted and implemented in the hostel.

Lovely place to stay. Usage of the indoor and outdoor onsens are booked for private use (and there was plenty of opportunity during our one night stay) so it was nice that my partner and I were able to enjoy it together.

Amazing onsen, can be booked to use privately. Big comfy beds, great little touches - they really have thought of everything! We had the most amazing stay & would definitely recommend.

Great location. Hotel has everything you might need to rent for your active holiday and day out in the mountains.

Comfortable rooms, nice communal areas to lounge, beautiful open air outdoor onsen bath, lovely guided night trek to Zengorono falls, and they kindly sent us to the bus terminal as it was raining the next morning.

Receptionist was very friendly and nice, onsen is comfortable and traditional, the interior of the place was amazing and we loved the simple yet sufficient design :)

Nothing actually - it was great for the price.

From the start, when we were greeted enthusiastically by Nami-san, we knew we had found one of our favorite guesthouses. Our corner room with a bath, sitting room and bedroom with two comfy beds fit our needs exactly. As avid cross country skiers, we were thrilled to find loads of great trails. You can also book snowshoe treks with the guesthouse. And, to clarify, you can walk to several restaurants or buy some food at the guesthouse raicho the (instant soup/rice/etc.) to make in the kitchen. The guesthouse also has a coffeeshop with locally roasted coffee beans and four different homemade cakes.

The only thing we didn't like was having to leave.

Everything! Guesthouse Raicho was a truly wonderful place. The staff were kind and friendly, always happy to help with any question one had, the location was excellent, the facilities excellent. The guided snowshoe tours were also amazing fun, exciting and generally superb. I loved discovering Norikura Kogen, but I also really enjoyed getting to know the different members of staff too. My Japanese is still improving slowly, but (a) excellent English was spoken if need be, but also (b) the staff were very kind in helping me improve my Japanese. I definitely want to come back :)

The staff was super super helpful and friendly. Our heater and kotatsu weren’t working and they fixed/changed immediately. They also gave us good hiking tips and made reservations for dinner. The outdoor onsen was also incredible! It was just amazing to experience the onsen surrounded by snow, nature and open sky!

The bedroom was a little cold but the heater and kotatsu helped a lot.

Well equipped, love how peaceful the surroundings are and the onsen was fantastic! It’s very rustic and charming. Read some reviews about the lack of food, but honestly it’s not at all an issue for me cos i just brought along some simple groceries / pre-packed food - the kitchen is very well equipped!

Very nice large room with good amenities. Great communal kitchen and lounge. Good breakfast bagels. Great private indoor and outdoor onsens. A terrific base to see Zengorono Falls, which are stunning in winter.

The accomodation is great. It does not have a restaurant but you can buy some simple ready made food here (like noodles) and order bagels for breakfast. Nearby we had excellent meals at Irodori. Abbey Road was also very good for a meal.

great stars, onsen, great hiking on the doorstep, Cosy communal area! would definitely recommend!

A bit chilly in the room at night but ok under lots of blankets.
