Quirky hotel, yes it's old with no air conditioning but none of that mattered. Staff all friendly, great location for Stanley Park and right on English Bay. About 30-40 minute walk to Canada Place but public bus 5/6 2 mins walk from hotel. Easy access to airport no. 5/6 bus to Yaletown Roundhouse then Canada Line to airport. Approx 50 mins total.

Great location. Staff were great. Within walking distance to downtown and many restaurants. Adjacent to Stanley Park. Only negative is old carpet in rooms and hallways.

Lovely old hotel with a great outlook towards English Bay. Impressed with the restaurant menu. It’s also reasonably walkable to most places or there’s buses handy.

We booked this trip last minute and we were absolutely thrilled with our choice! The Sylvia Hotel is full of old time charm and sophistication. From the moment we entered the lobby, we felt as if we had stepped into a by-gone era. The wonderful black and white photos of days gone by, the friendly welcome from the front desk staff, and English Bay beach just steps from the door, we knew that we had stumbled upon what felt to us like a hidden gem. As expected by the age and history of this hotel, our standard king room was small in comparison to larger, newer hotel rooms, but it was by no means cramped. Well laid out with windows that actually open to let in the sea breeze, it was perfect. The bathroom is small, reflecting the era of the building, but has everything needed for a relaxing stay. As for cleanliness, the housekeeping staff do an amazing job. Our room was spotless and inviting from the moment we stepped inside the door. Breakfast in the restaurant had lots of great choices and we were charmed by the friendly and attentive waitstaff. The Sylvia Hotel is a wonderful change to the often impersonal newer hotels, and with its location beside English Bay, you just can't beat those amazing sunsets!

It’s a lovely quaint hotel in a very scenic area! The hotel was recommended by friends of ours and we are happy that we took their recommendation. The only negative is that our room was a little musty smelling. Other than that we will certainly be back!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sylvia hotel. With 2 grandkids and our dog, the location was amazing. They even upgraded our room to give us another bed! The only thing missing was air conditioning in our rooms, although fans were there and we used those.

What a fun place to stay. Location is perfect and the history made it an experience. The staff were superb. Best service I’ve experienced in a while. Such a fun whimsical place to stay.

As a historic building (1912), you can literally feel the history everywhere. Although extensively renovated and comforable, in-room A/C is not permitted in this historic hotel by building code. A fan is provided in the closet, though. Try to get a room on the higher floors to avoid street noise through your windows. No bathroom ventilation fan either. Great food and views of English Bay from the main floor dining room and excellent service. Nice happy hour features as well. Very nice stay, will try to stay again.

The Sylvia is a gem from the past. I felt like I was leaving Vancouver and staying in another country. Loved walking the sea wall in the morning!

I stayed for 2 days but I feel bad for staying at this property. Spent hundred of bucks but not worth. Poor building condition and please make it 1 star hotel rather than of 3 star.

Room was not well cleaned and the carpet in front of the fridge was wet. FYI- we found out a couple of days after making the reservation that the hotel does not have A/C, which luckily it didn’t need. With the windows open it was noisy.

Had an amazing stay for 3 days, kind and helpful staff, restaurant was great! Overall a 4/5 experience. I will note that this hotel has no air conditioning in the building which was unclear until after booking. They do give a fan for the room thought and the sea breeze comes through the windows however there’s no screen protectors on the windows which did let a few bugs. Overall would recommend!!

No a/c in the room but pleasant.

Travelled as a couple with two small dogs. So nice to find a place that is accepting of dogs. We have no one to watch ours when away plus we just like them to Come along with us. :) The room was clean and the windows were open when we got there because it was summer and warm out I thought the room was great. I didn’t find it warm like others have mentioned but I was on a lower floor. I like how close this is to the beach and so many walkable areas to go with the dogs and just enjoy the scenery. We walked to dinner and had some Indian food which was also tasty. Great start to our trip!
