City Walls: The total perimeter of the City Walls sits at just over two and a half miles in an unbroken loop, lined with trees. The walls are thick enough to walk or ride a bike on top of it, like an elevated sidewalk. You’ll even find a bar called San Colombano up there! The walls have been rebuilt three times, with the last iteration created in the 16th and 17th centuries. From above, the uniformity of the city’s red roofs cannot be ignored.
Piazza San Michele: Piazza San Michele is lined with cafes and shops, in addition to a daily market selling candy, clothes, and tourist souvenirs. Today, the interior has several rooms decorated with collections of artifacts from Pfanner’s era including his surgical tools. The gardens are highly celebrated as being a beautiful example of Baroque-style landscape architecture.
Via Fillungo: A busy shopping street that winds through the city, Via Fillungo is filled with shops, restaurants, and cafes great for people watching. Some call it the most important street in Lucca and use it as a point of orientation.
Piazza dell'Anfiteatro: Piazza dell'Anfiteatro is an oval-shaped piazza built on the seating section of an ancient Roman amphitheatre. It’s filled with lots of bars and restaurants for laid back dining and socializing. In the summer, you’ll come across street music and other performers, with Via Fillungo located right outside.
