Staying here was amazing! Came out for a guys trip and there are multiple great trails near by. The property is one of the only houses at the top of the moutain. The views are beatuiful. Highly recommend staying here. The only thing is we had 3 dead mice in the house so making sure the house is clean before the guests arive would be nice. Overall though i would come back and stay

The property has a beautiful view of the mountains! I cannot stress enough that this property is on top of a mountain! There are switchbacks up in a few different places. We had a bit of snow while there an were glad to have 4 wheel drive foress than an inch.
The house was nice. The cleanliness of the house was a bit disappointing. Surface level was fjne, but there was a thick layer of dust on picture frames and shelves.
The bunkroom was perfect for our kids and gave them their own space. The hot tub was wonderful.
All in all we enjoyed our stay!

The positive experiences that we had this home were the beautiful view from the living room and the back deck, truly breathtaking. The outside play area is fantastic, our young children loved it. The hot tub was clean and great to use after a day out. The location is hard to beat, close to grandfather mountain and the other local attractions.
We were however very disappointed in the cleanliness of the home. One of our children has a severe dust allergy, therefore when we book rentals cleanliness is really important. We started referring to the home as a dusty heaven, it had amazing views but the home was covered in thick dust. As an example, right after arriving we opened a curtain in the kitchen so we could see the view better. We were smacked in the face with a cloud of dust from the curtain, we then opened the porch door in effort to air the dust out, but a gust of wind kicked up dust that we quickly realized was layered on every surface. We turned around to find our kids playing tic tac toe in the dust on the window sill. The house had clean bathroom vanities, toilets and showers but it was obvious that nothing else had been touched. Even after a cleaning crew was sent back out there was still so much dust that we couldn't use ceiling fans as it kicked up too much dust. I hope the house gets deep cleaned prior to the next renters, it has so much to offer...without the dust!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Deerwood retreat. The house was perfect for our family of 5 and every amenity that we needed was available. There is so much to do in the surrounding area, I couldn’t think of a better location to stay. We look forward to returning soon!

Our family enjoyed every bit of this home and the views are incredible! It has everything you need for a visit with family and pets, including an extra large kennel, plenty of dishes and cookware, and a great fireplace (pick up wood and matches).
A few things to consider when preparing-the home is on top of a very steep, windy hill which meant that there was completely different weather. We had snow and colder temps never indicated in any weather app, creating gorgeous wintry views and a little sledding down the driveway. But keep that in mind when traveling because we came across many different vehicles struggling with the snow and ice, even with well paved and graveled. Our 4 wheel drive had zero issues.
The primary bedroom is on the main floor and the other rooms are downstairs, something to consider for family members with less mobility.
Make reservations during the holidays for activities because they book up quickly-sledding, restaurants, Wilderness Alpine Coaster (so fun).
Would highly recommend, just heed the warnings for appropriate vehicles!

Incredible views of Blue Ridge Mountains and a lovely, inviting house that was clean and matched online description. Perfect accommodations for our Collies, three adults, and three teenagers. Loved the large flat screen TV in sitting area with comfy sofa, loveseat, and recliner for enjoying streaming.

While looking for a property in the mountains the first thing I gravitate towards is the outdoor deck, space, and the views… This place did not disappoint!!! The views were amazing, and the overall entertainment space in the home was perfect for our group! There is plenty to do in the area. We enjoyed several Banner Elk restaurants and hiking trails/waterfalls. And of course, the wonderful Grand Father Mountain Winery! There were a few items we expected to be present that were not probably an accident… Such as bath towels for each bathroom and trash bags. But nothing to get bent out of shape about you will still enjoy the place!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home at the very top of Seven Devils!

I was so excited about this stay. The pre-check-in communication was great and check-in process was easy. However, the place was dirty. Right after we parked on the gravel driveway, we saw two dog poop piles. Floor was dusty and had dog hair. The couches and second bedroom linen also were lined with white dog fur. The third room with bunk beds smelled musky. My family had to keep that room shut so the smell wouldn't go around the lower floor. I called the office to ask a question and mentioned the cleanliness problem. The lady on the line said, "Oh, sorry." Hot tub was working but black sand at the bottom wasn't inviting so we didn't use it.
The place has a nice view, heater worked great, and hot water came out with no problem. Also, it's very quiet. However, the uncleanness of the property turned me off. The day before check-out we lost Wi-Fi and the maintainence person couldn't fix it. We didn't want to spend the second night there so we checked-out that night.

We had a wonderful time at this property! The room for the kids was really fun and the views were awesome! It’s very close to Hawks Nest tubbing. We highly recommend this property!

We recently completed a 4 night stay at Deerwood Retreat and it was a great spot for our two families (including kids and dogs). The views are amazing and the location is great (very convenient to snow tubing, Grandfather Mtn area, etc.). We enjoyed the hot tub and the kids' play area outside. One thing to mention to future renters is that the house is not very well stocked with back-up supplies or basic cooking spices. We could not find any food storage (tupperware or food wraps) and ran out of trash bags, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, toilet paper and paper towels, so we had to run out and buy more. Just a note to come prepared! But other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again!

We used the cabin as a wonderful home base for a long weekend for our group in the mountains during peek leaf season. Drove the Blue Ridge Parkway, had lunch in Blowing Rock, and hiked at Rough Ridge Overlook and Beacon Heights Trail one day, hiked at the Emerald Outback, had lunch at Beech Mountain Brewing Co., and rode the ski lift to the top of Beech Mountain for a beverage at the 5506' Sky Bar another day, and did a morning hike at nearby Otter Falls our last day (glad we went early, it was getting crowded when we left). The neighborhood is also fun to explore by foot. While not off on adventures, we very much enjoyed the home's large and well stocked kitchen, the views from the decks and the hot tub next to the outdoor fireplace (though while in the hot tub it is impossible to see the fire, due to the cover's position being in the way). We were pleasantly surprised to find ample firewood left for us, though I'm unsure if that was the property management company or a past renter. The slide and playhouse were also a hit with the 4 year old, as well as the hammock chairs on the lower deck and the dollhouse in the bunk room's closet. Overall, this was a very nice home in a great location, and while we've already rented another property for next year's annual fall leaves trip, this place is definitely on my short list of rentals to consider again for our future needs.

Beautiful spot!! Incredible views. Absolutely loved the place. Cleaning prior to our arrival was inadequate. Specifically the mess left behind in the oven and refrigerator, pull out sleeper sofa was full of food crumbs, windows and doors smudged. Would like to see cleaning company held to a higher standard. This is an elite level vacation spot…should be cleaned to reflect that. Listing showed hot tub on the back deck looking out on the mountains, however, the tub is now out front near the fire place. Minor correctable issues for sure. You want to rent this retreat!! It’ll change your life for the better. Go get it!!

Wonderful cabin, perfect location!
My husband and I brought our two dogs for a week in the mountains, and we absolutely loved this cabin. The furnishings were comfortable and we had everything we needed for a quiet getaway. We were looking forward to hiking the nearby trails and enjoying the spectacular view from the deck, but it rained (seriously, it monsooned) every day of our stay! So if you guys can fix the weather before our next visit, that would be much appreciated. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay very much. :)

Disappointed
When my family arrived they noticed a mildew smell and the dehumidifier left was completely full (we immediately emptied it). We let that go. Then that night when we went to go to bed my sister noticed her sheets had human and, what appeared to be, canine hair on them. Changing sheets the first night was not ideal. This was gross. The next night we used the oven and there was rotten food sitting in. Since some of it was growing mold it clearly was not recently left. Given we were only there for a weekend we cataloged our issues and tried to enjoy being together. When the hot tub went to be used on Saturday it was noticed that the jets weren't quite covered by the water so they sprayed everywhere which made the hot tub not terribly relaxing. When we brought these issues to the management we were refunded the cleaning and linen fee as those were the only items we could prove and were told we should have told them about each incident we came across. If we had done that I would have only been doing that over the long weekend with family. Warning, if you decide to stay here please check the entire unit as soon as you arrive and take pictures of everything.

Great views!!
It’s at the very top of the mountain. Beautiful views but lots of switchbacks. 2 mile drive to the top takes about 12 minutes but it’s worth it! My kids loved all the games that were available. If you are bringing a dog there is a kennel already there. Wish we would’ve known that could’ve left ours at home. Great trip!!

Cozy Mountain Cabin
We loved this mountain cabin! Very comfortable and was a great place to relax. We all enjoyed the hot tub and the kids especially liked the bunk bed and fuzball table downstairs. Cabin was just as described. The winding roads to the top are tough. You definitely need 4wd in the snow and ice. We will definitely be back.

Amazing views
The property was clean, except for one little issue, that was promptly taken care of. The view was nothing short of amazing! The drive to the property was quite scary, we live on the coast, (flat) but we didn’t have any problems. You would need chains if dealing with winter weather. We had a fabulous family Thanksgiving and made so many amazing memories. Didn’t do much but cook, enjoy the view and just spend time together, but that’s exactly what we needed. The beds were comfortable, bathrooms were clean, hot tub was amazing. The Kitchen was spacious and nicely updated. I would recommend this property and would definitely stay here agian in the future.

Wonderful family va action in the mountains!
We truly enjoyed staying st this property! The views are amazing. We spent an entire day on the deck watching thunderstorms roll past. We enjoyed the fireplace outdoors for s’mores in the evening and the hammocks and hot tub on the lower level.
I saw deer while walking the neighborhood and we loved star gazing at night. The house was clean and very comfortable. We played fooseball too- so fun! We’d come back for sure!

Incredible view
We have stayed there two other times We go for the incredible view. Well stocked with kitchen accessories and has comfortable furnishings except for the master bedroom mattress, it’s awful. Parking is plentiful, but the road up to the 4700 ft level house is challenging, with a narrow road and numerous double switch backs. The view is worth it.

Lovely cabin and fun
We had a lovely stay over the 4th of July!
The cabin’s higher elevation, cooler temperatures, beautiful views, and quiet were exactly what I had been hoping for. (If our young children had “off” buttons, it would have been even more relaxing!)
We enjoyed the fire pit, starter set of wood, and the kids loved the play house. After making s’mores, they ran sprints in the road since the house is at a dead end.
We also walked our dog around the neighborhood and it was great. Really enjoyed sitting on the deck and the living room furniture is comfy. My toddler loved the dollhouse downstairs and the barbies, as well as the kids books upstairs. Those small extra touches are much appreciated when traveling with little ones.
The only real issue we had was the shower in the master was majorly clogged. Turn the water on for a second and water stands in tub- severe. Housekeeping should have noticed this and reported it… if they cleaned the tub.
I called Carolina Cabin Rentals and was told someone would be out later in the day and that they would call ahead of time. Neither happened so we gave up and used the downstairs shower. We’re flexible but also paid a lot of money for the rental, so do expect that the rental companies to follow through.
As others have indicated, the drive up to the house is steep. Our Honda Pilot did fine but had to work hard. I would be absolutely terrified to try that in the winter! Consider your needs while you’re already out so you don’t have to make a separate trip.
While in the area, we enjoyed many fun attractions: Otter Falls hike (just down the street), Apple Hill Farm to see the alpacas and other animals, Grandfather Winery, Grandfather Mountain and the Mile High Swinging Bridge, Waterfalls park (drive up waterfall), driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway, blueberry picking at Snow Farm, Stick Boy bakery, Booneshine, and Bella’s pizza. The Lowe’s Foods is close and convenient.

Relaxing for whole family!
We had such a great time here, between having room for us to spread out to the amazing views to the amenities (hot tub, outdoor kids play space). The drive up and down the mountain was a lot, not recommended if you have failing breaks or old tires! Great location, we went into boone, blowing rock and banner elk easily. Also we wanted to extend our stay by 1 night and the manager made it happen quickly and easily!

Beautiful location. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The cabin had all the supplies we needed for our stay. The drive up the mountain was very scenic. The road is paved all the way up the mountain, but you would need a four wheel vehicle in icy weather. We loved our stay there

Best mountain view ever!
We all loved it! The view is absolutely amazing! The kids loved the play house/playground. The walking trail is beautiful and we all enjoyed it. Only one small complaint would be it needs to be cleaned a little better.

Kid friendly cabin
The rental was really nice. Everything was well stocked, which was really refreshing. Something as simple as ample toilet paper, dish rags, a sponge/soap, and paper towels goes a long way when you’re wrangling two three-year-olds. The play area and the bunk room were huge hits and really helpful! Great stay for families with young kids or kids of all ages.
